Kilkenny survive first-half scare to see off brave Antrim challenge in Leinster hurling championship battle
Derek Lyng's men trailed by one at the break and the gap could have been more, but they were in no mood to contemplate a shock as they out-scored the hosts by 2-13 to 0-1 from the 48th minute.

Eoin Cody top-scored for the Cats as he finished with 1-13 as his free-taking and ability to lead the charge from play helped get his side right on top, while Martin Keoghan's goal in the 51st minute was a blow Antrim never recovered from.
Lyng, however, later conceded that the hosts were the better team at times.
He said: 'We got back into it in the second half and found our groove a little bit more. We got the result we needed and we move on to the next game.
'We got a good lead at the start and just sat back.

'That's something we will be working on for the next couple of weeks as it won't be good enough as we go along.'
Kilkenny flew out of the traps and were 0-8 to 0-1 ahead after 11 minutes before Antrim settled to rattle off four of their own and get level, with good work from Conor Johnston putting James McNaughton in for a goal.
The Loughgiel man almost had a second three minutes later, only to be denied by the post.
But three Cody scores seemed to settle Kilkenny.

Two was the margin when Antrim got a second goal in the 33rd minute as Keelan Molloy did well to whip home under pressure and the Saffrons took a 2-8 to 0-13 lead into the break.
Kilkenny upped the pace in the second period with Cody frees and a score from Harry Shine putting them two up, only for McNaughton to point a free and Nigel Elliott seeing a rasping drive tipped over by Cats keeper Eoin Murphy.
RTE pundit Peter Canavan angers fans after leaving notable county out of his 'big four' All-Ireland contenders
Then the Marble County completely took over with Billy Ryan and Cian Kenny landing points to ensure the starting front eight were on the board.
From the restart in the 51st minute, Keoghan overturned Paddy Burke and galloped through for the goal, which put his side 1-21 to 2-11 ahead.
That was the game-breaker as Antrim's resistance was broken and Kilkenny scored 1-12 without reply as Mikey Butler and Tommy Walsh added their names to the board. McNaughton finally ended a barren 25 minutes for Antrim in added time, but Kilkenny finished with a flourish as Billy Drennan pointed.
And with the last act of the game, Cody got a goal from a free to put the cap on a fine second-half display.
A disappointed Antrim boss Davy Fitzgerald said: 'That wasn't an 18-point defeat. We had six goal opportunities but that margin was the last 15 minutes, conceding most of that.
'For 45-48 minutes, we showed what we can do.
'They got a seven-point lead early but from then on we were good. But after we made the mistake that led to their goal, we lost confidence.
'They weren't even good goals. The first was a mistake and the second we switched off.
'When we penetrated through the middle, we looked good and as good as I've seen us for 45 minutes. Our tackling was good, shape was good, everything was good, but just when that first goal went in, the buzz went out of us.'
Next up, Kilkenny face Offaly at Nowlan Park on May 10, while Antrim are also back at home on the same day when they welcome Dublin to Corrigan Park.

Ellen Dolan inspires Peamount to comeback win at Dalymount Park
Bohemians' incredible nine-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt against an impressive Peamount side who had the immense Ellen Dolan to thank for a come-from-behind win. The All-Island Cup finalists had gotten in front thanks to a well-taken finish from teen sensation Aoibhe Brennan, but the Peas had a teenage star of their own to thank for their first win since May 17. The visitors, narrowly beaten at home to Athlone Town in a bruising battle in the FAI Cup despite being the better team for large spells, but started brightly despite being shorn the services of the suspended Mary Philips. Jess Fitzgerald smashed a 25-yard effort that sailed just over the bar signalling their intent with a couple of minutes played. The hosts began to play their way into the breathless encounter as Hannah Healy became more influential, starting one excellent move down the right that saw Sarah McKevitt whip in a dangerous low cross that was cleared at the pivotal moment by Peas skipper Karen Duggan. A fascinating midfield battle was developing between fellow Irish Under-19 Internationals Brennan and Fitzgerald who wrestled for control in the engine room. There was huge controversy midway through the first half when Dolan bust into the box following some pinball in the area and looked to be caught either side by Lisa Murphy and Katie Lovely, but referee Mark Moynihan waved away the protests. The visitors began to edge the war of attrition and finished the half the stronger. Both Sadhbh Doyle and Dearbhaile Beirne had strikes from distance that narrowly missed the target before a royal rumble-style scramble in the area led to claims from the Peas that the ball crossed the line. Despite being second best for large parts, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock a minute before the break with a clinically incisive move. Brennan was quick to intercept Beirne's pass into the middle, before playing a perfectly weighted one-two with McKevitt on the right. The silky midfielder continued her run into the box, showing great strength to hold off the pressure from Doyle, and finished expertly into the near post with her left foot. The hosts came flying out for the second half, going close to doubling their lead just after the restart with two chances in quick succession. Firstly, Lovely forced Amanda Budden into a brave stop from point blank range before showing cat-like reflexes to deny Alannah McEvoy at the near post. Having been denied a penalty in the first half the Peas were given a chance to equalise fro the spot moments later when Fiona Donnelly was adjudged to handle the ball from a blocked cross that spun up awkwardly. Player of the match Dolan took responsibility but saw her penalty saved low to her left by Rachael Kelly. The 19-year old showed huge character to shake off the miss and not only equalise but put her side ahead with two excellent goals in five minutes. Firstly, the 2024 Young Player of the Year rose highest in the area to glance home Fitzgerald's deep free-kick from the right before picking up the ball deep and rampaging towards the edge of the area and unleashing an unstoppable right-footed effort that flew into the net to flip the game on its head. The hosts looked to the bench for some fresh legs to bring a fresh impact into the attack. Savannah Kane showed tremendous pace to go down the right before being halted by Duggan who stood up big. From the resulting corner a whole host of red and black shirts had attempted to bundle the ball over the line but the green wall stood big. The home side, roared on by an impressive 468 supporters on a chilly Tuesday, tried desperately to build a head of steam but the experience of Peamount told as they took the sting out of any attack. Bohemians: Rachael Kelly; Sarah Power, Lisa Murphy, Roisin McGovern, Katie Lovely (Savannah Kane, 68') ; Fiona Donnelly, Aoibhe Brennan; Leiagh Glennon, Hannah Healy, Sarah McKevitt (Hanna O'Brien, 57'); Alannah McEvoy (Robin Baird, 68') Subs not used: Jenna Willoughby, Abby Rooney, Simone Reilly, Lillian Rusher, Shona Farrelly,, Michelle Muddiman Peamount United: Amanda Budden; Lauryn O'Callaghan (Chloe Moloney, 82'), Abbie Tuthill, Karen Duggan, Dearbhaile Beirne; Aisling Spillane, Jess Fitzgerald, Sadhbh Doyle (Ruby Gallagher, 90+3), Sorcha Melia; Ellen Dolan, Antea Guvo (Karla Moore, 89')

Mark Doran to succeed Andy McEntee as Antrim Football boss
Mark Doran will succeed Andy McEntee as the new Antrim senior football manager. Nominations for the role, which was vacated by Andy McEntee after three years in charge, closed at the end of July. Paddy Bradley had been the early front-runner, but withdrew his name while former Louth boss Colin Kelly and Barry Dillon, who led Ulster University to Sigerson Cup glory in 2024, were also linked with the role. It is understood that Colm Nally was part of Kelly's potential backroom team and the Drogheda native was interviewed for the role before withdrawing from the race last week. Dillon was also nominated for the post, but is currently focused on managing Tyrone club Ardboe. Doran, who managed Monaghan side Ballybay to a county title in 2022, also had coaching spells with the Clare and Roscommon footballers and is currently with Slaughtneil. The Derry SFC got under way last weekend with the Emmet's recording an impressive 2-22 to 1-12 win over Kilrea to set up a second round clash with Bellaghy. The Longstone clubman stepped down as Slaughtneil manager last season following their semi-final loss to Glen, but was reappointed to the role back in March. It is expected that he'll continue in his role with Slaughtneil until their season is over. In a statement, Antrim GAA said: The Antrim County Committee are pleased to confirm that Mark Doran has been appointed as Manager of the Antrim Senior Football Team. "Over the past number of years, Mark has been involved at the highest levels of the game, including coaching roles with Down, Clare, and Roscommon senior football teams, and team management with Ballybay and Slaughtneil. "His contributions have been widely praised across the counties he has worked with, helping teams improve performance and compete at provincial and national levels." Antrim Chairperson Seamus McMullan added: "'Mark has built a solid reputation as a coach and manager. His depth of experience and understanding of the modern game make him an ideal fit to lead our Senior Footballers forward. 'We wish Mark and the panel the very best and look forward to the 2026 season." Doran's full management and backroom team will be confirmed over the coming weeks. McEntee stepped down in June after three seasons in charge of the Saffrons. Antrim lost out to Armagh in the Ulster SFC quarter-final. They reached the last four of the Tailteann Cup in each of McEntee's first two years in charge, but lost out to Wexford in the preliminary quarter-finals this season and were also relegated to Division Four in the spring. Antrim suffered a further blow earlier this summer when captain Dermot McAleese, 31, announced his shock retirement from county football.
