THE CHEAPEST places to live in Britain have been revealed, including a quaint town and a commuter spot perfect for Londoners.
Many of the most affordable places to settle down are in Wales or Scotland, but a few in the south-east of England come as a shock.

The most popular cheap town to live in is Glenrothes, a town in the Fife area of Scotland, according to estate agent Zoopla.
Once a settlement to house miners and their families, it flourished into a large industrial powerhouse.
It now offers an easy-going lifestyle for those who choose to live there, nestled amid stunning landscapes.
A local celebrity is Dougray Scott - from Mission: Impossible II - who grew up in the town and remains connected to his roots.
The average price of a three-bedroom home in the area is just £136,900.
Next up is Llanelli, a beautiful market town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, where the average value of a three-bed is £170,600.
It's the largest town in the county and is just 11 miles away from Swansea.
It would make a good choice for someone who wants to immerse themselves in Welsh culture, as the language is widely spoken there.
Also in Wales is Neath, where homes are at a similar price to Llanelli.
The average price of a three-bedroom property is £176,400, and it's located along the River Neath, from which it gets its name.

Situated between Bridgend and Swansea, the town boasts impressive transport links for a day out.

Wishaw remains on the milder side of UK temperatures so could be a cool getaway for those who aren't keen on the summer heat.
The Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park provides residents with access to moorlands, bogs, flower meadows, and woodlands, supporting its diverse nature.
Next up is Maesteg in Wales, which offers a three-bed for around £142,000.
The community town in Bridgend County Borough has a Welsh-speaking minority, so those moving there from the rest of the UK won't feel too left out.
It has a rich tradition of music and theatre and it's one of the only places where the Welsh tradition of Mari Lwyd, a hobby horse parade, is still celebrated over Christmas.
Here, the Welsh national anthem was first performed and the Maesteg Town Hall is a Grade II listed building constructed in 1881 which serves as a cultural hub.
Dartford offers a three-bedroom for £423,600 and is next on the list.
The Kent town is situated in the south east of Central London and has a charming history and cycling paths.
Shopaholics will be thrilled to hear there are lots of transport links to London as well as the huge Bluewater Shopping Centre and regular markets.
The £9 billion Lower Thames Crossing project in Dartford is also expected to create thousands of jobs and boost the local economy.
In seventh and eighth place, both in Scotland, come Leven with a £164,600 property and Larkhall offering a three-bed for £177,600.
Leven is in the seaside town of Fife and is a beautiful coastal town in the east Central Lowlands.
It boasts a lot of tourists due to its sandy beaches and promenade with plenty of hotels, cafes and restaurants.
Larkhall sits is on the breathtaking Clyde Valley and is often pinned as a commuter town for Glasgow.
With a couple of landmarks, notably the Morgan Glen viaduct and the Glenview memorial fountain.
Nearby, Chatelherault Country Park provides scenic walking trails and plenty of historical sites.
Last but not least, in tenth most popular cheap town to live in is Swanley in the South East.
The picturesque town situated in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, offers a three-bed for £444,9000 on average.
Known for its parks and family-friendly charm, it's a place where suburban calm meets a touch of countryside.
Community spirit of Swanley remains a defining feature with multiple local markets and various social clubs.

Annual Wolverhampton-Aberdyfi bike ride to raise money for charity
An annual cycling event that has run for more than three decades is taking place this month to raise money for Bike Ride is being held on 20 June with two different routes of more than 100 miles (161km), beginning in Wolverhampton and finishing in Aberdyfi, Wales. It is supporting charities like rescue charity Little Paws Cat Haven, Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity and Aberdyfi Search and ride has raised more than £1m for charity since it started in 1993 and last year raised £183,256. One route is 103.9 miles (167km) and the other is 124.2 miles (200km).More than 300 people have signed up and community organisation Open Newtown said it was looking forward to welcome cyclists into Britannia Inn in Aberdyfi said they were preparing to cheer cyclists into the village where the ride urged drivers to be mindful of the cyclists and drive carefully while the event was taking place. EXCLUSIVE I quit city life for Cornwall and DON'T regret it! Here's why people moaning about tourists and lack of oat milk and nearby Zaras are wrong
Gazing across the Fal estuary from the footpath we had paused on during a post-lunch walk, my husband and I were having the same conversation we'd had countless times during holidays to Cornwall. 'Wouldn't it be great to live here', one of us would say, usually prompting something like, 'one day we will.' Except this time it didn't stop there. 'Perhaps we should just give it a go,' he said. 'We could make it work.' Less than a year later and here we are. That conversation sparked a rollercoaster that saw us sell our house, find the perfect new home for us in one of our favourite parts of Cornwall, and move five hours from the Midlands - a place we'd both called home our whole lives. We moved house at the end of October, and while relocating to an entirely different part of the country hasn't been without its challenges, I don't have a single regret and wouldn't change it for the world. It's not that we hated the Midlands. In fact, I've always championed it as a great place to live - somewhere that's never given the credit it's due for being a vibrant place that offers big cities like Birmingham along with rural areas like Warwickshire, where we lived together happily for years. But after falling in love with Cornwall on numerous camping holidays, it always felt like the place we wanted to be. The sea is an obvious draw, and we're far from the first landlocked Midlanders to crave being able to get to the beach without it taking hours. But as we've got older - we're both 42 now - we found ourselves yearning for more space, more calm and more quiet. Where busy streets and nights out might have once been our bag, now we're more about long walks with our two dogs, country pubs, fresh air and a slower pace of life. Every time we holidayed in Cornwall in our campervan, we felt ourselves exhaling and unwinding - a feeling we wanted to bottle up and turn into normal life. That's not to say we don't love a nice meal and a few drinks, but again that's something Cornwall does so very well. Places like Padstow, Port Isaac and St Ives have attracted us over the years thanks to their big-name restaurants and boujee food and drink scene, but we found ourselves actively seeking out less well-known spots that serve up the freshest fish caught that same day, cooked by people passionate about the ingredients right on their doorstep, from land or sea. The Roseland Peninsula became a favourite for us over the years, but across the estuary we discovered Falmouth, with its bustling student population and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Yet on a Friday or Saturday night it still felt safer than some of the places we were used to. Every town and city has its problems, of course, but Cornwall somehow felt calmer and removed from some of the tension and aggression that we'd seen on nights out elsewhere, and that my husband experiences first hand as a firefighter in Northampton. While the stars aligned to help our move happen quite quickly, it wasn't quite as impetuous as it may have seemed to some. As much as we loved the isolation of some parts of Cornwall, there's a difference between living somewhere and escaping from reality on holiday - and it seems to me that the people who regret their move have perhaps forgotten to factor in practicality when they up sticks to move somewhere like Cornwall. Common complaints seem to be that you have to do a fair bit of driving to get places, and supermarkets and shops might be hard to come by - but that's a bit of a generalisation and probably down to those people not quite thinking through where they decided to move to. The Roseland Peninsula is one of our favourite spots to have a campervan break, but when we were deciding where to live, we acknowledged that it might be better to be somewhere with supermarkets and shops a bit closer, hence moving to a village between Falmouth and Truro. It has the beauty of a tight-knit community, where people say good morning to each other and help each other out, but we've got a train station that allows us to get to both Falmouth and Truro, bus routes, two pubs within walking distance, and even a village shop run by the community. There are about three supermarkets within 15 minutes of our house, and a Spar in the next village that has pretty much everything you could possibly want - even oat milk (which, by the way, my village shop also stocks so the idea you can't get alternative foods is a bit of a myth). Yes, it might be harder to get a taxi or takeaway, but these are all things that are manageable - and part of the package if you decide you want to move somewhere more rural. You can't, after all, have your cake and eat it. The same goes for wanting high street shops. Perhaps if you're a Zara addict you should prioritise that when you choose where to move to, instead of taking the plunge then complaining. Plus, it's not like plenty of major brands don't do online ordering. And yes, we even have Amazon Prime in Cornwall so the suggestion that you're somehow cut off from civilization is a bit of a stretch. Of course, it's a far cry from London, but if you want that kind of always-on culture, perhaps you should stay in the city instead of swapping it for the coast. Like any newcomer to Cornwall, we're eager to be accepted. And I can safely say I've been made to feel nothing but welcome by everyone I've met. Given the issues of second homes in Cornwall and the impact it has on property prices for people who grew up here, I honestly can't blame some for being wary of yet another couple arriving from 'up country'. But if they are, I've never seen it, and we've found ourselves being welcomed wholeheartedly to our new community - something we've embraced by getting involved, chatting to people, supporting local businesses where we can, and showing that we're here to stay and be a part of Cornwall life, not just grabbing what we can before we run off back to the bright lights and big city. Getting involved comes with benefits that rubbish some people's criticisms that it's hard to find tradespeople or services, because the more you talk to people, the more you get personal recommendations. So if you're not managing to do that, perhaps you need to start engaging with your new home a bit more. The irony of someone who has moved to an area moaning about tourists doesn't escape me, that's for sure. While it might be tempting for me to voice my trepidation at how Cornwall will feel different in the coming months compared to the quiet winter haven we've just enjoyed, I fell in love with this area as a tourist myself, so who am I to poo-poo those who want to make the same special memories I did in this glorious place. Yes, I'm sure it's frustrating for people who are Cornish born and bred, and I completely understand, but I for one as a newcomer really can't justify moaning. Plus, when you live here, you can time your visits to tourist hotspots carefully to avoid high season, and one of the many reasons that drew us to the village we chose to live in was the fact that it isn't somewhere tourists are like to flock to, so we can enjoy its calm all year round, even during the holiday season. Six months into our new life, we don't regret a single thing. Things aren't entirely as we want them to be just yet - my husband is still waiting for a transfer to become a firefighter in Cornwall, which leaves us spending more time apart than we have in the 18 years we've been together. But even despite that, we wouldn't change our new home for the world. It's everything we dreamed of, and more, and I don't recognise some of the gripes some people have about living in this glorious part of the world. Is it the same as living in a big town or city? Of course not, but that's the beauty of it, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

With its annual Easter egg rolling competition as well as regular skiers, cyclists, and skateboarders who attempt to speed down it, England's steepest street is notorious in Bristol. But residents of the picturesque Vale Street have revealed what infuriates them about living on a 22 degree incline. From Uber drivers refusing to drop them at their doors, to endless flocks of tourists and lampposts being knocked down by delivery drivers, the streets' homeowners have developed a few niche pet peeves. Now landmarked on Google maps as the 'Steepest Street in England', many residents who have lived on the street for up to three decades have told MailOnline how YouTubers, AirBnB guests, and even a Swedish TV crew are driving them crazy. Deb Long, 62, who has lived on the street in Totterdown for 33 years, complained of 'foolish outsiders', continuing to flock outside their homes. 'We had one woman drive down it once, get stuck, and they had to literally tie her car to the railings,' she said. 'She said she wasn't from this area, but I was like why on earth have you tried driving down this hill if you're not from around here?!' Deb recalled how, six or seven years ago, how the fire brigade had to stop at the bottom of the street and use 'extra long hoses' when her neighbour's home was ablaze. The arrival of the road's first AirBnb, which advertises the road's steep incline, has caused some consternation amongst locals 'The fire brigade had to stop down the bottom, and use extra long hoses to get at their house. There was no way a fire engine could get up there,' she quipped. And its not only firefighters finding it a challenge to get up the sharp incline, as the longtime local described how lampposts are regularly knocked down by lorries in icy weather. 'It's quite entertaining sometimes, especially when it's icy. We've had cars skidding down, getting stuck. '[Pointing towards the towering structure] That lamppost is probably about the 5th or 6th because lorries always knock it down.' Delivery driver, Abdi Mohammed, 57, also voiced his own first hand difficulties with the road after he was forced to ditch his attempt to drive his van up the street, and instead hiked up the road to deliver the package. 'How on earth can we get up that?! We can't do that,' he added: 'I'm just trying to deliver a parcel, and now I have to walk all the way up there. It's exhausting man! Look at it.' Thirty-one-year-old Grace Radford said she loved living on the steep lane, but there were some downsides, especially when returning from a night out. 'Literally every single Uber is like, "You're walking," They get to the top and they're like like sorry babes, god speed, god bless!' She added: 'It is wild when it's bin day and it's the wind, literally your stuff is on the other side of the road, it hits cars, it is wild so that it absolutely insane.' But tricky treks after a night out on the town wasn't the only disadvantage, with tourists peeking into her windows as they walk down the road. She said they often think the Banksy artwork, which was graffitied on the house next door in 2020, is still there - despite it being cut out and sold off for auction in 2021. However it isn't all doom and gloom, as Grace revealed the rent for a two bedroom house with a garden was low compares to other street in Bristol, adding that burglaries were rare for a reason. She quipped: 'What robber can be arsed to get up this hill?!' And with attention from both Banksy and the media, life on the street is certainly never boring for Vale Street residents. This year alone, they were visited by a Swedish TV crew filming Rostiga Roadtrips, a show for petrol heads similar to the likes of Top Gear. And locals had a first row seat as they watched the world's smallest car attempt to go up 'England's steepest street'. But in 2020, a more mysterious visitor graced their road as an artwork by Banksy appeared on a wall overnight. The graffiti dubbed 'Aachoo!!' depicted a woman sneezing so aggressively her false teeth shoot into the air. However in 2021, the homeowners sold the artwork for an undisclosed amount at auction - much to the anger of some other residents. Local artist Benji Appleby-Tyler, 47, said: 'I was annoyed that they sold it, because it's for the community, it's not really for the people that owned the house. 'They closed off the road [to cut it out] and there was this massive crane to take the Banksy away. They didn't share the profits from the street, they just kept it. 'They could've invested it in doing up something or adding a plaque, we thought they could've just had a copy of it made or something. 'People would come over to Bristol to see the Banksy pictures, and quite often they still come over thinking it's here. 'We get tourists walking up to us asking where the Banksy is, and I have to tell them it was taken away.' Max, 41, who lives with his girlfriend on the famous road said people 'were a bit upset' after the artwork was sold. 'But also understandably because of the value of it, I'm not sure anyone knew what it sold for, but yeah it's one of those things. He added: 'I think I'd do the same to be honest, for the money.' Fifty-one-year-old Helen Loney, described the Banksy pandemonium at the time as 'nuts', divulging how residents were all chatting following the unexpected visitor's famous visit during lockdown. 'When [Banksy] confirmed [the artwork] on social media, and because it was during lockdown, and people had nothing to do, they all came and it was really bizarre. 'it was like we had this massive visitor's attraction. Once in a blue moon we'll get someone who says 'is the Banksy down here' and I'm like I'm really sorry it went! She added: 'It was quite cool when it was here, but the people that owned the house, I think they got a bit anxious about it. 'Basically their shed roof was between the street and the wall, and people were just jumping all over it and climbing all over it, and I think they just felt it was a bit invasive.' But the sale of the popular Banksy artwork wasn't the only grievance on Vale Street as some have been left sometimes annoyed by tourist flocking to site. George Bridges, 20, said: 'I've grown up here. The AirBnB is sometimes annoying when they're loud. 'Apart from that, it's usually pretty normal, you get people taking the odd picture and that. I quite like it, it's a bit of publicity isn't it?' But not everybody is seemingly welcome on the road, as Grace revealed sometimes there were 'weird' tourists peeking into her windows. Max added: 'At Christmas, I don't know if it's mince pies, potatoes, or brussels sprouts, but they'll roll it down. 'And then at Easter there's the hard boiled eggs as well, so that can be a bit annoying,' He said: 'A lot of people who don't live so locally come down and if you want to go out they can get in the way.' Boiling it down to their locality to the centre of Bristol, Ms Loney, revealed that when studying comes to a close at the city's university they have YouTubers and more visit the lane to do 'all sort of stunts and stuff'. 'There was some bloke who did a unicycle up it and then you see run groups, and that's fabulous,' she added. Describing it as 'quirky', the widow revealed life on Vale Street 'isn't for everybody', as there is sometimes an 'idiot' or two who makes a bid to drive up the hill. '[It] can be quite comical to watch. I have seen people drive down thinking they know what they're doing and then panic when they see the drop at the bottom. 'But you do get some that get stuck. She added: 'I came home one night from work and found somebody clinging onto the railings, I thought they'd fallen over but they were actually on skis. So it's quite funny. 'Parking's quite entertaining, driving up and down is quite good fun, but mainly the sense of community, is probably why I've stayed.'
