Olivier Giroud says the FIFA Club World Cup is a chance to showcase Major League Soccer (Luke Hales)
Los Angeles FC striker Olivier Giroud says the FIFA Club World Cup is a chance to showcase Major League Soccer as the tournament kicks off this weekend.
LAFC are one of three MLS sides entered in the 32-team tournament which begins in Florida on Saturday when Lionel Messi and Inter Miami face off against Egyptian club Al-Ahly.

The Seattle Sounders are the other MLS team in the tournament.
Former France international Giroud, who joined LAFC last year after three seasons with AC Milan, told reporters on Thursday he believed MLS was "underrated" by the rest of the world.
"We're honored to represent this amazing club, but we also know that we're representing MLS," Giroud said.
"I think Seattle and Miami also know that responsibility. I think that this league is underrated, and I think a lot of it is just because it doesn't necessarily have the same exposure globally," the 38-year-old said.

"Hopefully a good run from us will show the level of this league."
LAFC only forced their way into the Club World Cup via a hastily arranged playoff last month following the 11th hour expulsion of Mexican side Leon.
The MLS side are grouped with Premier League giants Chelsea, Brazil's Flamengo and Tunisian side ES Tunis.
Giroud said LAFC will kick off the tournament against his former club Chelsea on Monday as "underdogs", but urged his team-mates to embrace the label.
"It is something that we can embrace, and I hope Chelsea and Flamengo and Tunis and all these teams, I hope they walk off the field with a great level of respect as to the quality of our players and the intensity and the commitment of our players," Giroud said.
"If we walk off the pitch after every game like that, we will be proud."

Jorrel Hato departure not a given: 'Ajax is home for me'

As conversations with Ajax club media have shown, Jorrel Hato's summer departure is not a given. The youngster has enjoyed some heavy interest from several top European clubs, but he seems open to a longer stay in Amsterdam. Arsenal and Chelsea, in particular, have been tracking the 19-year-old Hato, who was asked about his future plans. 'The smartest thing is to look at it per season. That's what I do,' said the defender. 'Of course, you want to achieve things in the end: the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship.' Advertisement 'I still have plenty of time. I don't think: I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years,' Hato continued his story. What is the youngster's ultimate football dream? 'That is winning a World Cup. You want to be there when it happens.' Hato has already faced Lamine Yamal with the Dutch national team, but in the Eredivisie the Ajax defender cannot compete with such top players. He spoke of the domestic dynamic. 'In the Dutch league, you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes the best. How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.' Manchester City may loan out Jack Grealish having received no offers

Manchester City are yet to receive a formal offer for Jack Grealish, with the club potentially demanding about £50m for the forward who cost a then British record £100m in August 2021. Grealish was not in the City squad that arrived in Boca Raton, Florida, on Thursday to prepare for Wednesday's Club World Cup game against Wydad, having been excluded by Pep Guardiola. If there are no willing suitors regarding a permanent transfer, City may consider a loan. A temporary move may prove the most practical option for Kyle Walker, who is 35 and has a year on his terms. City's former captain joined Milan in January on loan for the second half of last season but the Italian club have no wish to re-sign him. Fenerbahce have emerged as possible suitors for the full-back. City may move again to strengthen Guardiola's squad this summer, though the club do not expect to do any business during the Club World Cup. Depending on how the team perform in the US, Guardiola may consider a new right-back, with the club possibly reviving interest in Juventus's Andrea Cambiaso. Should there be a considerable offer for Ederson, City may accept this for a goalkeeper who is 32 in August and has a year on his deal. Advertisement City have invested more than £100m in Tijjani Reijnders, a midfielder, who joined on Wednesday for €55m (£46.6m), the left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri, the goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and the winger Rayan Cherki. The quartet took part in their first training session on Friday at Boca Raton's Lynn University. The session was taken, in part, by Kolo Touré, who has been promoted from the under-18s to be one of Guardiola's assistants for the Club World Cup. With Kevin De Bruyne having left, City are likely to be captained by Rúben Dias at the tournament
