Justin Baldoni fires back after Ari Emanuel mocks him and takes Blake Lively's side in legal battle

Express Tribune15-02-2025

Justin Baldoni has fired back at the Hollywood power agent representing Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who not only took a dig at him but also claimed responsibility for his removal from It Ends With Us amid the ongoing legal battle surrounding the film.
Ari Emanuel, CEO of WME's parent company Endeavor, made the remarks during a live recording of the Freakonomics podcast. He discussed his personal connection with Lively, 37, and Reynolds, 48, just days after reports surfaced that Lively had subpoenaed cell carriers to obtain more evidence for her legal case.
Speaking at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, Emanuel mocked Baldoni's last name, calling him "bologna" during the show, prompting a response from the actor.
Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman, told *DailyMail.com* on Friday: "Mr. Ari Emanuel is notably one of the best agents, and clearly the most loyal, in Hollywood.
"As I understand it, Justin hasn't been called 'Bologna' since the fifth grade. Perhaps Ari's perspective would be different if they had ever met in the half decade they were clients of his agency."
Baldoni was dropped by WME on December 21, the same day reports emerged that Lively had sued him for sexual harassment and accused him of orchestrating a smear campaign against her.
During the podcast, Emanuel made a bold statement, saying, "I fired him," and reaffirmed his support for Lively and Reynolds, declaring, "I am a ride-or-die."
Earlier in the conversation, the Chicago-born businessman praised the couple, emphasizing that he had worked with them for over ten years and describing them as "really incredible people."
Emanuel stated, "They've never had any bad mojo out there or treated people badly."
He added that if Lively's allegations against Baldoni are accurate, those responsible are "really bad people."
Continuing his praise for the couple, Emanuel said, "These are good people who have been in the business for decades and have never had any bad press about them. And all the people they've worked with like them."
This comes just days after reports revealed that Lively had subpoenaed cell carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in search of additional evidence to support her claims against Baldoni.
She is looking for proof that Baldoni, who directed and co-starred with her in the romantic drama, was behind an alleged smear campaign targeting her.
Her legal team also issued subpoenas to internet service providers Cloudflare and AOL, along with Jed Wallace, a crisis consultant accused of launching a "digital army" against her on Baldoni's behalf.

Judge dismisses Blake Lively emotional distress claims against Justin Baldoni

A federal judge has ruled that Blake Lively's claims for emotional distress against Justin Baldoni will no longer be considered in their ongoing legal battle. The decision comes amid heated exchanges between the parties over Lively's refusal to turn over medical records relevant to the emotional distress allegations. U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman denied Baldoni's motion to compel Lively to provide a HIPAA release for access to therapy notes and other medical documents. The judge's order was based on Lively's representation that she intends to withdraw those specific claims. However, the court declined Lively's request to dismiss the claims without prejudice — meaning she could potentially refile them later — without a formal agreement with Baldoni's side. If the claims are not dismissed, the court will bar Lively from presenting any emotional distress evidence. According to court filings, Baldoni's attorneys argued that Lively sought to drop the emotional distress claims without releasing her medical information, thereby preventing the defense from disproving those claims. They accused Lively of attempting to preserve the right to refile after discovery closes while refusing to disclose evidence. Lively's legal team, led by Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, dismissed the motion as a 'press stunt' and criticized Baldoni's lawyers for abusing court procedures. They stated that Lively's withdrawal of the claims was voluntary and that she still intends to pursue emotional distress damages through other allegations, including sexual harassment and retaliation. The dispute arises from a lawsuit filed by Lively in the Southern District of New York, where she alleges Baldoni sexually harassed her on the set of the 2024 film It Ends With Us and retaliated against her with a smear campaign. Baldoni has countersued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, seeking $400 million in damages for extortion and defamation tied to a New York Times article. Currently, six related lawsuits concerning the events surrounding the film are active across various courts. The ruling marks a significant development in this complex, high-profile legal conflict.

Blake Lively says emotional distress claims against Justin Baldoni remain amid conflicting statements

Blake Lively is refuting claims that she has dropped her emotional distress allegations against It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni, despite statements from his legal team and email exchanges indicating otherwise. The dispute centres on her 10th and 11th causes of action, related to intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, filed in her December 31 lawsuit. In a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman, Baldoni's lawyer Kevin Fitz of Meister Seelig & Fein stated, 'Ms. Lively's counsel recently advised us, in writing, that Ms. Lively is withdrawing her IED Claims.' The claims are linked to a broader request by Baldoni's team for medical and mental health records, including HIPAA authorisations. Lively's team responded firmly, rejecting this as a misrepresentation. Her attorneys, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, said, 'This is a routine part of the litigation process that is being used as a press stunt,' adding that Lively 'continues to allege emotional distress' through other claims, including sexual harassment and retaliation. Baldoni's lawyers argue that Lively must either dismiss the emotional distress claims with prejudice—preventing refiling—or comply with discovery requests. 'She can't have it both ways,' Fitz asserted, asking the court to compel Lively to produce medical documentation. Lively's legal team has not confirmed whether an amended complaint is forthcoming. They maintain her core claims and potential for further damages remain active and substantial under California law. With a trial date set for March 9 2026 and damages exceeding $400 million at stake, the legal back-and-forth continues to unfold.

Kim Kardashian shows support for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds amid ongoing Taylor Swift lawsuit drama

Kim Kardashian made waves on social media Sunday by showing support for her rival Taylor Swift's former confidantes, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, amid ongoing tensions in their circle. Kardashian, 44, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram for her son Psalm's sixth birthday party, but the timing of her gesture has raised eyebrows, as Lively and Swift's friendship has been strained due to a lawsuit. The reality star, who boasts 356 million Instagram followers, shared a series of images from the Deadpool and Wolverine-themed birthday bash she threw for Psalm, complete with custom decorations and a cake featuring the two characters. Although the post was a simple celebration of her son's milestone, Kardashian's choice to publicly showcase support for Lively and Reynolds comes at a time when Swift is reportedly distancing herself from the actress due to a growing legal dispute. Sources close to Swift have revealed the singer is frustrated with Lively, particularly amid the ongoing litigation related to It Ends with Us, the movie Lively is working on with Justin Baldoni. 'Right now, if Taylor had one wish, it would be that she never met Blake,' a source told Daily Mail. Swift has reportedly come to see red flags in the friendship that caused her more stress than it was worth. Kardashian's public endorsement of Lively and Reynolds couldn't come at a more critical time. The actors, who once enjoyed a close friendship with Swift, have recently been entangled in the drama surrounding the lawsuit. Kardashian's gesture, shared with nearly 350,000 likes, was noticed by several notable figures, including her sister Khloé Kardashian, who sent a heart-filled response to the post. The underlying tensions between Swift and Kardashian date back to the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when Kanye West interrupted Swift's speech, sparking years of animosity. While the two stars briefly reconciled, the situation reignited with West's 2016 song Famous, and the public fallout between Swift and Kardashian deepened. Kardashian's tweet, calling Swift a 'snake' in 2016, only escalated the feud, which continues to simmer today.
