Sanchar Saathi mobile app crosses 50 lakh mark downloads in six months of launch

New Delhi [India], August 9 (ANI): Downloads of Sanchar Saathi Mobile App crossed the 50 lakh mark in around 6 months of its launch, the Ministry of Communications said on Saturday. Since its launch, the mobile app has crossed 50 lakh downloads within six months. Recognising the wide linguistic and regional diversity of India, DoT has expanded the app's accessibility by supporting English, Hindi, and 21 regional languages.Reporting of fraudulent calls and messages has been made even more seamless, with users now able to file reports directly from their call and SMS logs in just a few taps.From the time of its launch, the Sanchar Saathi initiative has led to the recovery of over 5.35 lakh lost or stolen mobile handsets, the disconnection of more than 1 crore unauthorised mobile connections based on citizen reports, and the deactivation of over 29 lakh mobile numbers flagged through the Chakshu feature.The Sanchar Saathi Portal has witnessed over 16.7 crore visits, reflecting the growing public trust in this citizen-centric digital platform.DoT has also implemented the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI), which assesses and categorizes mobile numbers based on their association with financial fraud risk. This tool enables banks, NBFCs, and UPI service providers to take proactive actions to protect consumers.As a result, 34 financial institutions have frozen 10.02 lakh bank accounts/payment wallets, and imposed debit/credit restrictions on 3.05 lakh accounts, based on FRI ratings.Building on the success of the portal launched on 16th May 2023, DoT introduced the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App on January 17 2025, offering users direct and convenient access to telecom security services.The app, available on both Android and iOS platforms, empowers users to protect their telecom identity and take swift action against potential fraud.The Sanchar Saathi initiative exemplifies Jan Bhagidari–citizen participation in governance. Reports submitted by users play a crucial role in preventing the misuse of telecom resources for cybercrime and financial frauds. DoT continues to act upon these reports swiftly, with status dashboards available on the portal for public transparency.Fully committed to safeguarding telecom infrastructure and user security, DoT urges all citizens to stay alert and make full use of the Sanchar Saathi platform to report suspicious telecom activities (ANI)

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Hir Prajapati, who lost his mother, Kalpana Ben Prajapati, in the AI-171 plane crash, has moved to the US Federal Court against Boeing, expecting speedy justice. Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Mr Prajapati said that they have hired lawyer Mike Andrews to represent them. He said, "We have hired Mike Andrews. We expect the raw details of information from the black-box to come before us at the earliest so that we can make further decisions regarding the next course of steps, along with our lawyer. In India, trials get dragged out for years. We are fighting the case in the US so that a decision is pronounced early." Hir Prajapati expressed gratitude towards the Indian government, police and doctors for helping the family. "We believe we will get the incident happened, the government helped us a lot. The police also helped us. We are thankful to the doctors too, who handed over the bodies to us after a swift DNA test," he said. He added that he had initially scheduled a flight for June 11 for her mother but changed it to June 12 at her request. "My mother, Kalpana Ben Prajapati, died in the accident...I had initially booked a June 9 flight for her, but she had a fast and she told me that she cannot travel that day. So, I then rescheduled it to June 11. But she told me that she doesn't want to travel on an odd date. So, I finally booked a ticket for June 12," Prajapati said. Following a candle march by the families of the victims of the crash, Mike Andrews, lead lawyer, representing over 65 victim families, said that the families are searching for answers. Mr Andrews told ANI, "Today marks the two-month anniversary of this tragedy. It has been a very difficult day for everyone involved. The families organised a candlelight vigil to stand in remembrance. We are thankful and grateful to have been invited to come and are no words to think of the families are back now, searching for answers." On June 12, Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, crashed soon after it took off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing 260 people, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 people on the ground.

A pickup van crashed into a parked truck in Rajasthan's Dausa district in the early hours of Wednesday (August 13, 2025), killing 11 people, including seven children, and injuring eight others, police said. The passengers of the pickup vehicle were returning to their village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah after visiting Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temple when the accident occurred on Manoharpur highway around 4 a.m. to 5 a.m., Dausa Superintendent of Police Sagar told PTI. Seven children and four women died in the accident, he said. 'The Odisha Government has asked all its Departments, public and educational institutes and others to stop using the term 'Harijan' in communications,' officials said on Wednesday (August 13, 2025.) The government suggested the authorities concerned that words like 'scheduled caste' in English and 'anusuchita jati' in Odia or other national languages should be used to "denote persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes as notified under Article 341 of the Constitution," according to a letter issued on August 12 by the Commissioner-cum-secretary of the ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Class Welfare Department. "They have been instructed to ensure that the word 'Harijan' does not appear in any official communications, records, transactions, caste certificates, publications, departmental names, or any other form of use," one of the officials said. 'The authorities concerned are also directed to educate their staff and update existing documents and records accordingly,' he said. 'They are also told to submit a compliance report on the action taken on the matter,' another official said. 'These guidelines will be strictly enforced in all government offices,' the official said. In 1982, the Centre had asked all State Governments not to use the term 'Harijan' to refer to Dalits. 'Following fresh guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, a similar Order was also issued in 2013 to all the States, directing them to ensure non-use of the 'Harijan' word not only in caste certificates but also in official communications,' the officials said. 'The Odisha Assembly has also prohibited the use of the word 'Harijan',' they said.
