Why Saratoga will stay as host for the 2026 Belmont Stakes

New York Post13-06-2025
Anyone who has ever had work done on their house knows deadlines are often fluid when it comes to renovations.
That's why it should be no surprise that Saratoga Race Course will remain the host of the Belmont Stakes in 2026.
The race will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, and, due to the configurations of the track in Saratoga, will be run at a mile and a quarter, rather than the traditional mile and a half.
The original plan was to have Belmont Park up and running for next year's 'Test of the Champion,' but it will instead reopen in September 2026.
The announcement, made Friday by Gov. Kathy Hochul and the New York Racing Association, explained that keeping the Belmont Stakes in Saratoga for one more year would allow for the on-time and uninterrupted construction of a new Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.

'New York is home to world class sports and entertainment and this final chapter of the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course honors our rich racing heritage while paving the way for a bold, new future at Belmont Park,' Gov. Hochul said in a statement.
'Bringing the race back to Saratoga next year will once again expand the audience for this storied leg of the Triple Crown and ensure fans continue to enjoy the full experience.'

Saratoga has hosted the last two iterations of the Belmont Stakes, won by Dornoch and Sovereignty.
The annual Saratoga summer meet will get underway on Thursday, July 10, but the Race Course will also serve as the host of the July 4th Racing Festival, which is traditionally held at Belmont Park.

Fox sets price for its Fox One direct-to-consumer streaming service

Fox Corporation's direct-to-consumer streaming service carrying the company's news, sports and entertainment programming will be available for $19.99 a month, the company announced Tuesday. Fox Corp. Executive Chairman Lachlan Murdoch told Wall Street analysts the offering, called Fox One, will launch Aug. 21 and target consumers who may want the company's content but no longer have pay TV subscriptions. Fox One will provide subscribers with their local Fox TV affiliate and the company's cable channels Fox News, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sporrts 2, Fox Weather, Fox Deportes and the Big 10 Network. There will be no original programming produced for the service. 'Our subscriber expectations and aspirations are modest,' Murdoch said. Murdoch stressed that the launch of the streaming service does not diminish the company's commitment to cable and satellite distribution which still brings in significant revenue despite the TV audience's move toward streaming. Even as the pay TV universe shrinks, Fox Corp. is still seeing increases in fees from pay TV companies carrying its broadcast and cable channels. In the fourth quarter earnings announced Tuesday, its broadcast stations saw 4% growth in subscription revenue while its cable channels were up 2%. Overall the company reported revenue of $3.29 billion in the quarter, up 6% over the prior year while net income more than doubled to $719 million. Murdoch said Fox Corp. is open to marketing Fox One in a bundle of other streaming services. Between the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports, Fox One subscribers will have access to a wide range of live events including Major League Baseball's regular season games and the World Series, the NFL, college football and basketball, the Belmont Stakes, IndyCar racing and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Fox One is priced well under ESPN's new stand alonestreaming platform that will be available later this year at $29.99 a month. The Walt Disney Co. is making ESPN available to non-cable subscribers for the first time with its service. Fox's current streaming properties are the ad-supported service Tubi, which now accounts for 1% of all TV viewing according to Nielsen, and Fox Nation, a $7.99-per-month service operated by Fox News Media, which has about 2 million subscribers. Fox Nation is mostly entertainment and documentary shows with several Fox News programs offered a day after they air on cable. Users will be able to bundle Fox One and Fox Nation for $24.99 per month or the equivalent of $19.99 per month when purchasing the annual plan at launch.

NFL's, MLB's Giants poke fun at infamous Mike Francesa radio show phone call with 'annual meeting'

The long-awaited meetup between the San Francisco Giants and New York Giants has finally happened. Back in 2015, "Dan in Warwick" called legendary New York sports radio host Mike Francesa and asked him if "there had ever been a franchise-to-franchise … get-together" between the MLB and NFL teams, since they had the same name and the MLB team used to play in New York. Francesa was absolutely flabbergasted, saying, "That might be the weirdest question in a long time." He then joked that the "Giant picnic" is in Totowa during a weekend together, and the New York and Texas Rangers have similar gatherings in Albeliene. "[Henrik] Lundqvist is particularly close with Yu Darvish," Francesa joked. "There's a kinship there between the two of them." It has gone down as one of the greatest phone calls in radio show history, and it's been a hot topic in the tri-state with the MLB's Giants in New York this weekend to take on the Mets. Well, "Dan in Warick's" wishes have finally been granted. In a video posted on X, Francesa is seen walking through a hall before entering a door. Spotted in the room are New York's Eli Manning and Shaun O'Hara, and San Francisco's Logan Webb and Matt Chapman at the "Giants Giants Annual Meeting" (probably in Totowa). "They really do get together!" Francesa says, before exiting the room. The MLB team posted, "Our turn to host next year." Francesa fell victim to many prank calls in his later years, including if the Mets could go 162-0 after an Opening Day victory, how Mickey Mantle could win the Triple Crown if he was not a horse, that the Mets should call up "Game of Thrones" characters Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister (which he thought was a bad idea), and, well, whatever this is. Francesa retired briefly in 2017 but returned a few months later, but went back off the radio airwaves full-time in 2019 and later started a podcast.
