WWDC 2025: Apple Intelligence gets more powerful on  iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro

Indian Express3 hours ago

At the Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple unveiled several new Apple Intelligence features across its product lineup including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro. Some of these include Live Translation, enhanced Visual Intelligence, and more powerful Image Playground and Gemoji and Shortcuts, which now has direct access to Apple Intelligence.
The tech giant is also opening up Apple Intelligence for third party app developers so they can better integrate with their offerings. Since these large language models process data on the device itself, Apple says the functionalities will work offline as well. Here's a quick look at some of the Apple Intelligence features coming to several Apple devices with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 and watchOS 26.
With Live Translation, Apple says users will be able to communicate with others without any language barrier. The feature is integrated with several first party apps like Messages, Phone and FaceTime, and run entirely on the device itself.
Coming to the Messages app, Apple says Live Translation will 'automatically translate messages.' For example, when a user is making plans with their friends when abroad, the message will be translated in real time, and delivered in the recipient's preferred language. As for FaceTime, the audio will be shown as live captions in the speaker's original language. If you are on a phone call, the translation will be 'spoken aloud throughout the conversation.'
Genmoji and Image Playground, two new Apple Intelligence features that were introduced last year are also getting some upgrades. Now, users will not only be able to generate a Genmoji with text, but also mix and combine emojis to create a new one. Moreover, when making images inspired by your friends or family, Apple says you can now change their expressions and even change personal attributes like hairstyle to match their look.
Image Playground is also getting a bunch of enhancements. The ChatGPT powered functionality can turn images into various styles like vector art and oil painting. You can also use the feature to describe a user or photo to generate a new 'unique image.'
The Google Lens powered Visual Intelligence is also getting some new features. For example, users will now be able to ask ChatGPT questions about what they are looking at and search about things on Google, Etsy and select supported apps.
Also, if a user is interested in, say, a lamp, they can now highlight the object to get more information about it online or find similar objects. Using Apple Intelligence, Visual Intelligence will also be able to see if a user is looking at an event and automatically suggest it to add it to their calendar with details like time, location and date.
Apple is also bringing its AI feature suite to the Shortcuts app. To maintain privacy, Apple says these features will either be processed on the device itself or with Private Cloud Compute. For example, students can now make a new shortcut that uses Apple Intelligence to compare things like an audio transcription of a lecture to their notes and add key points they may have missed out on.
Apple Watch, one of the most popular smartwatches in the world is also getting new AI powered features like Workout Buddy. The new Apple Intelligence powered functionality 'incorporates a user's workout data and fitness history' to give them personalised insights during their workout sessions.
Workout Buddy also analyses data from your current workout while referencing their fitness history for data like heart rate, distance, pace, Activity rings, personal milestones and more. Based on this, the functionality will then use a text-to-speech model to translate them into a 'dynamic generative voice built using voice data from Fitness+' to motivate them.
It will be available on Apple with Bluetooth headphones, but users will need an Apple Intelligence supported iPhone nearby. Some of the most popular workout types Workout Buddy is coming to include Outdoor and Indoor Run, Outdoor and Indoor Walk, Outdoor Cycle, HIIT, and Functional and Traditional Strength Training.

Apple WWDC 2025: Why did tech giant move from iOS 18 to iOS 26?

Apple, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference 2025, unveiled various upgrades to its operating systems on Monday, including the release of iOS 26 as the tech giant decided to change its naming convention. The tech giant announced the release of its new iOS this fall. Originally, as per the usual sequence name after iOS 18, this year's release would have been called iOS 19. However, since Apple declared that it is changing its naming convention, saying that its future iOS versions will be numbered on the basis of the year, similar to how car manufacturers name new models, this year's release will be called iOS 26. "Our releases for the fall that will power us through the coming year 2026 will be version 26," said Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president. The upcoming latest software versions cross all products of Apple will end with '26' - iOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, visionOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26. Apple also announced a new "Liquid Glass" design language for its software. This will display apps and toggles with a translucent, glass-like shine. The new design will be implemented in buttons, sliders, media controls and larger elements such as tab bars and sidebars, along with matching redesigned toolbars and navigation system. The tech giant is releasing updated Application Programming Interfaces so that developers can begin adapting their apps ahead of the release of the new design later this year. The company said that it is also making new additions of Apple Intelligence to its operating system, including Live Translation. Image Playground is also getting a new feature boost with the incorporation of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Apple will also let users learn more about what's on their iPhone screens with the help of Visual Intelligence. Users can search about images on their iPhones across Google, Etsy, and other supported apps. If the tool finds out that you are viewing an event, iOS 26 will suggest that you add it to your calendar. Additionally, the tech giant said that it would add generative AI to its Xcode coding tools that can help developers write code, test it and resolve errors.

Apple's Spotlight on macOS Tahoe can now send emails and run shortcuts, not just open apps

With the macOS Tahoe , Spotlight is getting its biggest update ever that transform the Mac 's search feature into a powerful action centre capable of sending emails, creating notes, and running shortcuts without opening other apps. The revamped Spotlight can now perform hundreds of actions directly from the search interface, letting users complete tasks like playing podcasts, setting reminders, and composing messages without switching between applications. Apple says this makes Spotlight the fastest way to access content across your Mac. Quick Keys are the standout new feature: two-letter shortcuts that instantly jump to specific apps or actions. Type "SM" to send a message or "AR" to add a reminder, with options to create custom shortcuts for personal workflows. This brings Alfred and Raycast-style launcher functionality directly into macOS. The interface has been completely redesigned with intelligent ranking that groups all results – files, apps, messages, and events – together based on relevance. New filtering options let users narrow searches to specific file types like PDFs or Mail messages, while browse views make it easier to scan through apps, files, and clipboard history when you're not sure what you're looking for. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Retirement Village Coming To Alexandria - Take A Look At The Prices New York Retirement Village Click Here Undo Apple Intelligence integration makes Spotlight contextually aware, suggesting actions based on user habits and current work. The system learns routines and surfaces personalised shortcuts, like quickly messaging frequently contacted colleagues. Developers can integrate their apps using the App Intents API , making third-party actions searchable alongside Apple's built-in functions. Spotlight can also search through menu bar options in currently open apps, keeping hands on the keyboard for power users. The updates extend beyond Mac. Spotlight can now surface apps from connected iPhones through iPhone Mirroring and search documents stored on third-party cloud services. There's also clipboard history integration, addressing a long-requested feature from Mac users.
