Hawaii Softball splits doubleheader, 2nd Walk-Off win in 3 days
The Hawaii Softball team closed out the Spring Fling Tournament on Saturday with a doubleheader.
Hawaii fell to Cal State Bakersfield 7-2 in the 1st game, after UH racked up 7 hits but were unable to find the runs.
In game number 2, Hawaii took on Utah Tech. Hawaii trailed 6-4 heading into the 6th inning, but UH was able to tie it up after 2 runs in the 6th.
This one needed extra innings as both teams go scoreless in the 7th.
After the Rainbow Wahine held Utah Tech scoreless in the 7th. In the bottom of the frame, Sophomore Shortstop Milan Ah Yat stepped up to the plate.
Ah Yat got a hold of one and sent it over the left field wall for the 2 run homerun and for the walk-off Hawaii win.
'This team has fought so hard all weekend with all of these walk offs and everything,' said Ah Yat.
Hawaii wins 8-6 in game 2 and splits the final day of the Spring Fling Tournament.
'It's my last season and to see this happen, we we haven't been this good in a long time. And this is exciting. Very exciting,' said Hawaii Head Coach Bob Coolen.

Hawaii-born 2026 QB Eugenio commits to ‘Bows football
With just 11 weeks remaining until the start of the 2025 University of Hawai'i football season, the 2026 recruiting class is beginning to take shape. Leading the early wave of commits is Hawai'i-born quarterback Maika Eugenio, who announced his pledge to the Rainbow Warriors over the weekend following an official visit to Mānoa. Eugenio, a standout at national prep powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, is part of a growing pipeline from Gorman to UH. Among those paving the way is former Gorman quarterbacks coach Chad Kapanui, a Roosevelt graduate and former Warrior who now serves on Hawai'i's staff. 'For me, it feels great to be going back home with my family,' Eugenio said. 'I used to live in Hawai'i for about 12 years, and I went to Kamehameha since kindergarten. Just being able to come back, maybe go to college with some of my friends, and play in front of my family, it's a great opportunity and I'm excited.' Eugenio, said the relationships he's built with key members of the UH program, particularly Kapanui and assistant coach Chris Brown, played a pivotal role in his decision. 'Both Coach Kapanui and Coach Brown were key, key roles in my decision,' Eugenio said. 'The relationship I built with Coach Kapanui at Gorman was big, and being able to go back home and continue that relationship was definitely strong. My dad actually used to coach him when he was at Roosevelt, my dad (Matt) was the defensive coordinator at the time. So it's just kind of great that he's coaching me now. It's crazy.' Eugenio added that the presence of fellow Bishop Gorman alumni on the current UH roster helped solidify his choice. 'Coach Brown and all the other Gorman players played a big part too,' he said. 'Just being able to be back with them and further my relationship with them is definitely big.' Eugenio wasn't the only commitment UH landed over the weekend. Gorman teammate Isaiah Nickels, a versatile two-way skill player, and Saint Louis defensive back Jahren Altura also announced their commitments to the Rainbow Warriors. First Filipino games tournament launching in Hawaiʻi
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Gather your friends and family this summer to participate in some friendly competition. Miss Philippines Hawaii: Celebrating Empowerment, Culture, and Community The Filipino Community Center and the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu are launching the Palarong Pinoy 2025 – Traditional Filipino Games Competition. Participants will compete and be taught how to play traditional Filipino games, including Tumbang Preso (knock-down-the-can game), Pantintero (traditional tag game), Sipa (traditional foot game) and more. The games are open to all ages, welcoming both experienced and inexperienced individuals. Prizes will be awarded to winners, with the top teams advancing to the finals round. Some of the goals of this event are to provide cultural preservation, community building, educational outreach and family first qualifying round of games will take place at the Filipino Community Center on June 29, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the final round of games taking place at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu on July 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is now open online here and in person at the Filipino Community Center. Seabury Hall alum Tyler Loree inducted into HHSAA Hall of Honor, headed to UCLA
The HHSAA held its Hall of Honor ceremony last week, with 12 new student-athletes inducted. One of those 12, is Seabury Hall's Tyler Loree. The Spartan just graduated from the school and is has been one of the top golfers in the state throughout his whole high school career. Loree now can add his name amongst some of the best athletes to ever play Prep Sports in the Hawaiian Islands. 'It's actually very special because the HHSAA has so many different sports across like all of Hawaii, all the schools and all the districts. It's very cool that I'm like, I'm honored as one of the best individuals in all of the sports combined,' said Loree. Loree has left his mark on the sport of Golf in Hawaii, as he was a 3-time MIL Champion and a back-to-back State Champion. He also played in the PGA Sony Open last January where he competed in his 2 days of competition where he was inside the cutline after day 1. 'I feel like I truly, throughout my high school career, I've kind of found myself as a golfer, but even more importantly, as a person and kind of who I am,' said Loree.
