Heritage celebrations begin at Lok Virsa
Following the directives of the federal government, Lok Virsa is hosting a series of programmes on August 12 and 14 to commemorate Independence Day and the Marka-e-Haq celebrations.
These include Artisans at Work – an exhibition showcasing master craftsmen representing diverse traditional skills from the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir; singing competitions; an art exhibition paying tribute to the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq; a craft bazaar; and live music and dance performances.
A pictorial display honouring the Shuhada of Marka-e-Haq has also been mounted at the Pakistan Monument Museum.
The programmes at Lok Virsa were inaugurated by Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi. Also in attendance were Parliamentary Secretary Madam Farha Naz Akbar and Mr Asaad Rehman Gilani, Federal Secretary for National Heritage and Culture.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister remarked: "The celebrations of Independence Day and Marka-e-Haq are not merely a remembrance of our historic struggle; they are also a tribute to the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the sovereignty and dignity of Pakistan.

'Youth fully capable of carrying forward light of literature'
Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Chairperson Dr Najeeba Arif has said that the youth were fully capable of carrying forward the light of literature. In an interview with APP on Friday, she said the two-day second "Nasl-e-No Adabi Mela 2025," hosted by PAL, was "not merely an event but a platform of expression, dialogue, and intellectual freedom." Dr Arif added that through this festival, PAL aimed to provide a rare opportunity for dialogue, learning, and self-expression, projecting a vibrant scene of cultural and intellectual unity. "Literature fosters positive change in human nature, and the festival offered young people a golden chance to learn from their elders," she remarked, referring to 'Nasl-e-No Adabi Mela 2025' that was held on August 12 and 13. The festival brought together young writers and established literary figures from across the country in celebration of Pakistan's Independence Day and Marka-e-Haq. The event was attended by participants from several regions, alongside renowned poets, writers, and international personalities. The festival opened with a flag-hoisting ceremony at PAL's Chamanistan-e-Adab, attended by artist Jamal Shah, National Heritage Secretary Asad Rehman Gilani, and celebrated literary icons including Zehra Nigah, Sahar Ansari, Kishwar Naheed, Waheed Ahmed, and others. Throughout the two days, multiple sessions — including Mitti ka Qarz and Dialogue with Representative Young Creators — explored themes ranging from post-independence opportunities to climate change, cultural traditions, and the responsibilities of young writers. Four training workshops, covering prosody, prose writing, and translation, engaged youth in literary exercises. A major highlight of the festival was the All Pakistan Mushaira, featuring celebrated poets, including Anwar Masood, Iftikhar Arif, Sahar Ansari, Anwar Shaoor, among others. The closing ceremony, presided over by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi with Hafeez Khan as chief guest, praised the youth's literary contributions. Certificates, books, and souvenirs were distributed among participants and distinguished guests.

Patriotism shines at school contests
In celebration of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, the Punjab Council of the Arts (PUCAR), Rawalpindi, in collaboration with the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA), organised a vibrant ceremony featuring a flag-hoisting, cake-cutting, speeches, Milli Naghmay (national songs), and a tableau competition under the theme "Marka-e-Haq – By Our Brave Armed Forces." Shazia Rizwan, Parliamentary Secretary for the Information and Culture Department, Government of Punjab, distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest. In her address, she commended the patriotic spirit and heartfelt performances of the participating students. Awards were presented to the top three performers and runners-up in three categories — Speech, National Song, and Tableau. Speech Competition — 1st: Peak School, Rawalpindi; 2nd: Brightland School; 3rd: Sir Syed School; Runner-up: Bright School. Independence Day: Fatima Fertilizer ignites patriotic fervour thru ‘Dil Se Sarsabz Milli Naghma' Competition
KARACHI: In a heartfelt celebration of Pakistan's Independence Day, Fatima Fertilizer brought together the power of music and national pride through its first-ever 'Dil Se Sarsabz' Milli Naghma Competition, held in Islamabad. The campaign invited individuals from across the country to record and share their renditions of classic patriotic songs on TikTok using the hashtag #DilSeSarsabz. From hundreds of digital entries, ten finalists were shortlisted to perform live in front of a distinguished jury panel at the grand event. The legendary singer and music producer Haroon Rashid joined as a juror, lending his expert judgment to select the top three winners. The event was attended by senior leadership of Fatima Fertilizer, including Rabel Sadozai, Director of Marketing and Sales, and Asad Murad, Chief Operating Officer, who lauded the participants and shared their thoughts on the campaign's success. The first prize was awarded to Tahir Ali Khan from Chakwal for an emotionally moving performance, the second prize winner was Shumaila Fareedon from Islamabad, and Mehtab Ali Talpur from Khairpur secured the third position.
