Zionacity: The Audacity of Eternal Victimhood
Image: IOL
Zionacity, a term forged from Zionism and audacity, names an ideological condition of extreme exceptionalism, where one group's trauma is treated as sacred and untouchable, and all others' suffering is deemed either fabricated, deserved or irrelevant. It is a disorder of moral reasoning that weaponises grief into entitlement and reframes domination as divine right.
But Zionacity is not confined to the Israeli settler state. It is a global psychosis, an exported belief system that afflicts settler-colonial logic across the world. In South Africa, it takes form in the behaviour of white Afrikaans landowners who frame their historic land theft as cultural inheritance, and their continued dominance as the right of a 'Christian civilisation'. Zionacity is the theological twin of every settler project that sanctifies conquest while vilifying resistance.
This ideology operates beyond the geopolitical. It is also theological and psychological. It refuses reciprocity. It replaces solidarity with siege. It renames justice as hatred and peace as submission. Zionacity insists that one people's pain entitles them to unaccountable power, and that any challenge to this logic constitutes an existential threat.
It is this ideological framework that justifies the mass bombing of Gaza, the starvation of civilians, and the flattening of hospitals and schools. It is what renders the shattered bodies of Palestinian children invisible to international law and morally irrelevant to Western media. It is desensitisation, it is dehumanisation, it is doctrinal.
Zionacity erases empathy. It demands silence, obedience and allegiance parceled in guilt. It teaches the world that to mourn Palestinian lives is to betray Jewish ones. That to name Israeli war crimes is to defile the memory of Jewish trauma. It thrives on the falsehood that grief is a zero-sum game. That the suffering of the colonised must defer to the sensibilities of the coloniser.

It is also an erasure of prophetic Judaism, the Judaism of resistance, of liberation theology, of standing with the oppressed. Zionacity is not Judaism. It is the death of that moral and spiritual legacy. The radical Jewish voices who once marched against apartheid, who stood for Palestinian rights, who dared to speak the truth, are now vilified, silenced or exiled from the public square.
Zionacity is symbiotic with liberalism. The two work together like seasoned partners. Zionacity drops the bombs, and liberalism edits the headlines. Zionacity razes schools, and liberalism appeals to 'complexity'. The liberal mind is incapable of asymmetry. It will not say: one side occupies, bombs and kills with impunity. It must frame everything as 'tragic', 'complicated', 'both sides'. It weeps selectively for Palestinian victims — and only when their suffering can be extracted from the wider political landscape of resistance.
There are no liberal tears for the victims of NATO bombs in Libya, of Saudi airstrikes in Yemen, of Israeli proxy wars against Iran, of the economic strangulation of Venezuela, of Western-backed terror in Syria, or for the dead in Donbas under years of shelling. Russia, China, Iran, Libya, Yemen — all are filed away under 'authoritarian regimes', their populations rendered unworthy of empathy. To the liberal mind, these people are not victims, but collateral in the fight for 'democracy'. They do not grieve them. They judge them.
We saw this logic in South Africa too. It is the same liberalism that asked Black South Africans to 'move on' after apartheid, without land, justice or redress. It is the same liberalism that now asks Palestinians to condemn their own resistance before they are allowed to grieve. Liberalism demands civility from the oppressed, never justice.
Zionacity claims not only the moral high ground but the exclusive right to self-defence. In its worldview, only Israel may respond to violence, and even to imagined threats, with overwhelming force. Palestinians are never granted this right. Their resistance is immediately criminalised, their anguish reframed as aggression. A settler-colonial logic underwrites this asymmetry. The occupier claims the right to defend stolen land, while the dispossessed are punished for refusing to be erased.
Zionacity is theological settler-colonialism. It claims that God, not law or justice, grants the right to erase a people. It reframes mass displacement as security. It makes siege into necessity. It casts those demanding dignity as terrorists and those dropping bombs as victims. Not only does it reject the notion of universal rights, it weaponises their language for exclusion.
It is not coincidental that the same states funding Israel's war machine backed apartheid South Africa, invaded Iraq and support proxy wars in Africa. Zionacity is embedded in the infrastructure of global power, in diplomacy, finance, surveillance, journalism, philanthropy and cultural production.
Its arrogance lies in its assumption that the narrative is fixed. That if you control language, you control memory. That if you control memory, you erase responsibility. But from under the rubble, truth rises. From exiled Jewish thinkers, resistance echoes. From global youth movements, the word Palestine is spoken with clarity and resolve.
To name Zionacity is not antisemitism. It is moral courage. It is to refuse to let one trauma sanctify all future violence. It is to reject the demand that empathy be selective, conditional and censored.
Zionacity is not just a doctrine. It is a global apparatus of control. But it is also brittle. Its strength lies in silence. Its weakness lies in exposure.
To resist Zionacity is not simply political. It is human. It is the insistence that no people, anywhere, are chosen for impunity. And that no child's life, anywhere, is disposable.
If Zionism and its audacity remain unable to recognise the full humanity of others — whether Palestinian, Iranian, Yemeni, Libyan, Russian or Chinese — then the world which it victimises with its cruel impunity will be forced to declare unfettered war against it, not just on its weapons, but on its worldview. For an ideology that refuses empathy becomes a death cult, and like all death cults, Zionism will eventually devour its own children.

ANC councillor under investigation for alleged nepotism and corruption in R29bn SANRAL highway project
In June, IOL investigations revealed that Mkhize and his wife, Nkule MaKhuzwayo, were implicated in a separate set of allegations involving payments from Base Major Joint Venture CSC, a Chinese-led consortium working on the N3 upgrade. Image: Facebook / Sanral Msunduzi Municipality politician Sibusiso Mkhize is at the centre of a growing corruption scandal over alleged nepotism, bribery and abuse of power in connection with the R29 billion SANRAL upgrade of the N3 highway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Mkhize, the long-serving ANC councillor for Ward 14, was appointed by Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla to serve on the Project Liaison Committee (PLC) for the massive infrastructure project, which forms part of the government's Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) initiative. 'Many of his employees are there purely because of nepotism,' a source said. 'This includes his son, Sthabiso Mkhize, and three maternal family members. This favouritism has sidelined poor, deserving, and qualified community members, fuelling widespread frustration and disillusionment.' Local sources also allege the existence of a 'pay-to-work' scheme, where job-seekers are expected to pay bribes of up to R3,000 to be considered for positions on the project. Residents of Mkhondeni and Willowfontein say they fear speaking out, citing Mkhize's alleged connections to influential taxi bosses. There are further claims that a company allegedly linked to Mkhize - via a friend acting as a front -is profiting financially from the highway project, raising serious concerns about conflicts of interest and procurement irregularities. Next Stay Close ✕ Allegations that Mkhize enjoys protection from higher municipal authorities compound the community's fears. 'It's a climate of fear; he appears to be shielded by municipal superiors,' one source added. Further concerns involve Mkhize's ownership of a company, allegedly fronted by a friend, which benefits financially from the project, raising serious conflict of interest questions and doubts about ethical governance. In June, IOL investigations revealed that Mkhize and his wife, Nkule MaKhuzwayo, were implicated in a separate set of allegations involving payments from Base Major Joint Venture CSC, a Chinese-led consortium working on the N3 upgrade. One source alleged that bribes exceeding R169,000 were paid into MaKhuzwayo's bank account, with ongoing monthly transfers of R25,000. Evidence suggests illicit dealings between local politicians and a Chinese joint venture, Base Major Joint Venture CSC, which could compromise the integrity of the R29 billion upgrade connecting Durban and Pietermaritzburg. The upgrade, part of South Africa's Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs), aims to alleviate congestion, improve safety, and support economic growth by expanding the freeway from four to six lanes, with plans for eight lanes at key interchanges. The project is expected to create over 33,500 jobs and allocate R8.8 billion to black-owned enterprises. When approached for comment, both Mkhize and his son, Sthabiso declined to respond. Speaker of the Msunduzi Council, Eunice Majola, confirmed that the allegations are under internal investigation. 'The matter was referred to our internal audit for investigation. As the Council, we decided that it should be investigated internally. If the findings of the investigation warrant escalation, then that will happen at that time. For now, we are awaiting the outcome of the internal Audit unit which is investigating the matter into the alleged activities of Mr Mkhize.' Earlier in June, Msunduzi Mayor Thebolla acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations but emphasised that Mkhize's role was strictly as a municipal representative. 'He was nominated to the Project Liaison Committee by the municipality, but recent nominations have replaced him,' the mayor clarified. 'These allegations do not reflect well on the municipality.' SANRAL spokesperson Lwando Mahlasela confirmed that the national agency was actively investigating the claims. 'SANRAL takes these allegations very seriously. We are reviewing the situation and will communicate our findings once the investigation is complete.' The N3 project aims to improve transportation infrastructure, foster job creation, and support economic inclusion, but recent revelations threaten to undermine public trust. Some of the opposition parties in the municipalities are calling for urgent intervention. The EFF's member of Council Chuma Wakeni stated, 'The matter has been referred to the ethics committee, but delays are damaging the municipality's reputation. We need decisive action.' The ACDP's Rienus Niemand added, 'The SIU is investigating allegations of a widespread racket involving selling jobs and extortion. 'Low-level jobs are sold at R500, and prices increase with job levels. Several councillors are said to be involved. Niemand called for the "Immediate prosecution of involved individuals, which is essential to restore integrity.' Last month, Thebolla survived an opposition-led motion to investigate his alleged role in maladministration and procurement irregularities. The motion, which was listed under confidential items on the council agenda, draws on claims made by former municipal manager Lulamile Mapholoba during his defence against suspension proceedings early last year. The DA had submitted a motion to Speaker Majola's office earlier this June, calling for a probe into the mayor's conduct. The Speaker indicated the matter would need to be presented to the full council for consideration. In his presentation, Mapholoba accused Thebolla of making unilateral financial and administrative decisions under the city manager's or council's jurisdiction. He allegedly bypassed due processes in decision-making, including the irregular awarding of contracts and authorisations involving municipal funds. IOL Politics

Businessman claiming Gaza roots deported from South Africa for fraud
A businessman claiming Palestinian roots has left the country after failing to force the Department of Home Affairs to allow him to legalise his status in South Africa. Image: File A businessman claiming to have Gaza, Palestine roots has left South Africa after failing to stop the Department of Home Affairs' bid to deport him after finding he had been using a fraudulent name. Manar Alnajjar or 'Frederik van Wyk' had been detained at the Lindela Repatriation Centre in Mogale City after being arrested in January this year at OR Tambo International Airport on his return from a business trip in Dubai. He was charged with possession of a fraudulent South African identity document and passport. Alnajjar appeared before the Nigel Magistrate's Court and pleaded guilty to contravening the Immigration Act and fraud in April and sentenced to three months direct imprisonment for fraud and R120,000 for being in the country illegally. The court suspended R100,000 of the amount for three years on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence. After completing his sentence, Alnajjar was transferred to the Lindela Repatriation Centre for deportation. In his defence, he claimed he first entered the country in 2007 using a visitor's visa and subsequently obtained a general work visa in February 2011. Alnajjar stated that he aspired to be a permanent South Africa citizen and engaged the services of an immigration agent. Afterwards, they visited the offices of the Home Affairs in Nigel, which then furnished him with the South African ID containing his photograph and under the name 'Frederik van Wyk'. It was during his stay at the Lindela Repatriation Centre in July that Alnajjar launched an urgent application to the Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg to force Home Affairs director-general Livhuwani Makhode, minister Dr. Leon Schreiber and the head of the centre to release him to legalise his status in the country. Alnajjar told the court that he previously held a Jordanian passport and that his family is originally from Gaza but after the 1967 Six-Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbours, his family along with others were forced to relocate to Jordan. During his time in South Africa, he knowingly used the fraudulent document and used it to apply for a passport. Alnajjar added that he had a life partner who is a Ukrainian citizen, also a permanent resident and holder of a permanent South African non-citizen document, and together they had a daughter, who is 11 months old. In 2013, he married a Bulgarian citizen but divorced her in 2022. He also insisted that he is a successful businessman and a shareholder of a company operating in the recycling space in and outside South Africa and that he employed about ten people. Alnajjar said the company had been steadily expanding until he was arrested earlier this year. However, Acting Judge Patrick Malungana said the court could not countenance the perpetuation of illegal activities despite showing remorse by pleading guilty for fraud after he was arrested in possession of those fraudulent documents. 'The applicant (Alnajjar) has known all along of his fraudulent identity document. It is only when the law caught up with him that he pleaded guilty, and has some sort of expectation for the law to prevent his deportation because he has some family and business interests in the country,' the acting judge said, explaining his decision to dismiss the urgent application last week.

Gauteng police remove protesters demanding IDs at Crown Gardens Clinic
Police in a Johannesburg, Gauteng clinic have intervened to remove individuals who were demanding that all those who were seeking to enter the health facility show identification and stop illegal immigrants from gaining entry. Nearly a dozen police officers descended onto the Crown Gardens Clinic and dispersed those who were manning the gate. Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo told IOL that the duty of the police is to maintain public order. "That's why members of our Public Order Policing were dispersed there. It was to make sure that the people's rights were not violated," Masondo said. March and March Movement founder Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma questioned the police's motivations and accused them of betraying South African citizens. "We need answers from the police! Why were their members helping illegal immigrants? It is against the law for anyone, including the police, to aid illegal immigrants as per the Immigration Act. "Any police officer doing that is breaking the law! Please tell the police that maybe they don't know! South Africans open a case against them if they help any illegal immigrant." Ngobese-Zuma said.
