‘Tucci in Italy' cinematographer Matt Ball on avoiding ‘food porn' and what the audience doesn't know about Stanley Tucci
As for his on-screen partner, Stanley Tucci, Ball reveals that the Oscar-nominated actor for The Lovely Bones is a "very good musician" who can play both the piano and the drums, in addition to being a great chef. The cinematographer also praises Tucci's politeness and professionalism, noting that he would never admit to tasting a disgusting dish. "He would always be very polite if he didn't like it," he confesses.

Ball's original vision for the series was for food to be the "spine," not the ultimate destination. "Food is what holds everything together, and the stories will come from that," he explains. The goal was to avoid so-called "food porn" and instead use the dishes to illustrate deeper truths. "You want the food to lead to the story of the people and the culture, or how the farms have worked for hundreds of years, or how this has been passed down from family to family."
The Emmy-nominated episode, set in Tuscany, is a perfect representation of Ball's work. While the team filmed in Florence, they also explored more remote areas to find a connection between the old and the new. As Ball recounts, "They make lardo, the kind of cured back fat of pork, in these marble chests taken from the same mountains that Michelangelo carved his David from."
As the cinematographer of Tucci in Italy, Ball faced the unique challenges of filming in busy, uncontrolled environments. To make the food look appealing, he relied on natural light, even putting the dishes near a window to make them "pop." As for working in public spaces, "You deal with it when it happens," he states. "It's very hard to walk through the center of Florence and not get stopped, but you just move on and you get what you can in the time given."
Ball feels "super fortunate" to have filmed in every region of Italy, and he doesn't have a specific dream location to travel to in the next season. "Italy's a fantastic country to go to. I've got to shoot all of it pretty much," he concludes.
In addition to cinematography, Tucci in Italy is also nominated at the 2025 Emmys for Best Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special.

John Leguizamo slams Dean Cain for joining ICE: ‘Your pronouns are has/been'
John Leguizamo had some choice words for Dean Cain after the actor revealed he joined US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to 'help save America.' On Tuesday, Cain — who played Clark Kent on ABC's 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' alongside Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane from 1993 to 1997 — revealed that he's rolling up his sleeves to support President Trump's mass deportation efforts. The announcement was soon met with a fierce response from the 'Ice Age' star, who hit out at the actor in a social media post Friday. Leguizamo, an ardent Trump critic, said in an Instagram video. 'What a moron. Dean Cain, your pronouns are has/been.' On Sunday, the Emmy and Tony winner further doubled down on his stance by posting a fake DVD case with Cain's photo on it with the title, 'AGED ICE.' Advertisement 'More like 'Dean needs a cane' amiright?' he captioned his Instagram Story. Cain, 59, last week shared the news in a recruitment-style video on social media while urging others to join him in booting illegal migrants from the country. 'For those who don't know, I am a sworn law enforcement officer, as well as being a filmmaker, and I felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it, so I joined up,' Cain said in a nearly two-minute video on X. Advertisement 'Since President Trump took office, ICE has arrested hundreds of thousands of criminals, including terrorists, rapists, murderers, pedophiles, MS-13 gang members, drug traffickers, you name it — very dangerous people are who are no longer on the streets.' 5 Cain last week revealed that he is joining ICE to 'help save America.' X/@RealDeanCain 5 The actor said he's supporting President Trump's mass deportation efforts. Michael Brochstein/Zuma / The actor raved about the agency's 'great benefits and pay' — and touted the $50,000 signing bonus announced last week by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Advertisement 'So if you want to help save America, ICE is arresting the worst of the worst and removing them from American's streets,' he said, adding that no college degree is required, meaning 'you can get to work right away.' 'I like that. I voted for that. They need your help, we need your help, to protect our homeland and our families. So check into it and join today if it's something that tickles your fancy because we can use you.' Cain's video was met with resistance almost immediately, with some commenters noting that the actor is 22 years over the federal agency's maximum recruitment age of 37, casting doubt on the legitimacy of his latest public reveal. 'Perhaps we'll get that changed…' Cain said in response, shortly before Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin revealed that the agency has waived the age limit to allow for new applicants. 5 Cain played Clark Kent on ABC's 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' alongside Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane from 1993 to 1997. LeBron James reunites with Kyle Kuzma in Winnie Harlow photos
The post LeBron James reunites with Kyle Kuzma in Winnie Harlow photos appeared first on ClutchPoints. LeBron James is enjoying his offseason while spending some time with his wife, Savannah James, and his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Kyle Kuzma, and his fiancée, Winnie Harlow. The couples were spotted in St. Tropez with Kuzma and Harlow as the supermodel shared a black-and-white snapshot of them all. 'Leo Euro,' Harlow captioned the post, referring to her and Kuzma's star signs as well as the current zodiac season. The NBA stars were teammates for three seasons and won a championship together in 2020. Kuzma now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks. It's unclear when the photo was taken but it has since gone viral following LeBron's absence from Luka Doncic's press conference when he agreed to a three-year, $165 million extension on Saturday. Unlike Doncic, LeBron has not signed a contract extension, making him a free agent in the summer of 2026. LeBron has also been at the center of trade rumors with his future with the Lakers seemingly up in the air. The four-time NBA champion was seen about both Cavaliers and old Clippers training facilities. His agent, Rich Paul, also made a striking claim about LeBron's future with the Lakers. 'LeBron wants to compete for a championship,' Paul told ESPN last month. 'He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career. 'We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him.' LeBron currently is in a two year contract, worth $101.3 million, with a player option for the second year with the Lakers. The contract has a no-trade clause as well. While it's possible that LeBron could go to another team for the 2026-27 season, retiring is also an option as he had been in the NBA for 22 seasons thus far. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka shared that it would be 'great' for the NBA icon to retire as a Laker. 'All the interactions we've had with LeBron and his camp, Rich Paul in particular, have been very positive and supportive,' Pelinka said when asked if he expects LeBron to end his career with the Lakers. 'Very professional and Rich has been great. The dialogue with him has been open and constant. 'In terms of LeBron's career, I think the No. 1 thing we have to do there is respect he and his family's decision in terms of how long he's going to play. I think that's first and foremost. We want to respect his ability to come up with his timetable and that's really important. If he had the chance to retire as a Laker, that would be great.' The Lakers kick off their 2025-26 season will reportedly be on Oct. 21 against the Golden State Warriors.
