What to Watch: Bay Of Fires, Dancing With The Stars, We Were Liars and Joanna Lumley's Danube
Yet it does — and pretty darn well in season two.
Part of the reason this sometimes confounding series lands better this time around is undoubtedly Marta Dusseldorp, the show's co-creator. She is fantastic as Stella Heikkinen, the woman who at the end of 2023's first season was living in witness protection in the wild and remote Mystery Bay with her two children, Otis (Imi Mbedla) and Iris (Ava Caryofyllis).
She'd managed to outwit and outlast all those looking to do her in, and as we check in with her again this season, she's juggling the town's criminal enterprises, holding on by the skin of her teeth.
Dusseldorp does a fantastic job of making us believe every white-knuckle moment of it all.
The show has managed to assemble an absurdly talented ensemble cast, which includes Pamela Rabe, Roz Hammond, Kerry Fox and Toby Leonard Moore, who all do a great job of inhabiting their, at times wildly unbelievable, characters.
Season two sees backstories fleshed out further, and it's great to spend more time with these quirky misfits, discovering why they have found themselves trapped together in the open-air prison of Mystery Bay.
There's danger afoot for them all this season, and especially for Stella, who is beating off the Russians, a cult leader (Matt Nable) and the spectre of crime matriarch Frankie McLeish (Kerry Fox) — she's barely holding on, and it's heaps of fun watching as she attempts to juggle everything, including her would-be relationship with Jeremiah (Moore).
A satisfying continuation of a truly bonkers story.
Sir David Suchet played one of Agatha Christie's most famous characters — Inspector Hercule Poirot — for a whopping 25 years, so he's the perfect person to host this delightful historical travelogue series, which sees him retracing Christie's journeys aboard a steamship in 1922. She's criss-crossing the old Empire, with Suchet, a delightful guide, following behind. It's lovely to spend some time in his quiet presence.
Dim the lights and crank up the mirror ball — it's time for another turn on the dance floor! This season boasts a great line-up (how DO they keep enticing stars to sign on the dotted line?), including Osher Gunsberg, Shaun Micallef, Rebecca Gibney, Susie O'Neill and Felicity Ward. Week one is always heaps of fun, mostly because there are always one or two who crash out spectacularly — you'll want to be watching to find out who they are. Family-friendly fun.
Regular readers of these columns will know my love for teen drama runs deep. This one is based on the bestselling novel by E. Lockhart, and follows impossibly gorgeous Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) and her tight-knit circle of friends (The Liars) as they come to grips with events that changed their lives one summer. If you loved The Summer I Turned Pretty, you'll want to check this out.
I can't think of too many people who have seen quite as much of the world as Joanna Lumley — what a well-travelled life she's lived! In this series, she's embarking on an epic journey down 3000km of the Danube, as it flows towards the Black Sea. The river, which traverses the heart of Europe, tells myriad different stories, and Lumley is there with open mind and open heart to hear as many as she can — and it's an absolute delight. Don't miss this one.

Austin Butler nearly cracked rib shooting Caught Stealing
Austin Butler almost cracked his rib shooting Caught Stealing. The 34-year-old actor - who plays Hank Thompson in the new crime comedy by Darren Aronofsky - filmed a scene where his alter ego gets "beaten" by two Russians, including Pavel (Nikita Kukushkin), and things took a very real turn during the shoot. Butler recalled in a recent interview with Men's Health: "He [Aronofsky] put me through the ringer on this film. It's a lot of running away from people chasing me with cars and getting beaten up repeatedly. "I get beaten up by these two Russians in this film. This one - Nikita, who's a short king - he's got so much power. "When he was kicking me, he didn't want to kick me very hard. He felt bad and I kept telling him, 'Just kick me. Just kick me harder.' "And there was the thing when I watch it back that it doesn't look real. So he starts really laying into me and kicking me hard. 'But then he had this idea of headbutting me in the side like a little ram or something. And he did it so hard it almost cracked my rib with his head. "I was very impressed.' Butler also opened up about a scene where he was thrown onto a table by his co-star Bad Bunny (Colorado), and the Russians. He recalled: 'They had made a soft table that was made of some sort of foam. Every time they would hit me on it, the whole thing would bow. And I'm not wearing anything, so you can't hide pads anywhere. "And Darren was like, 'It looks fake.' And so they said, 'Just bring the wooden table.' "So they bring in a wooden table, and they just started slamming me on the wooden table wearing nothing." Butler noted that while he had a stunt double on set, the way the scene was shot made it easier to just throw himself into the action and "deal with" any injuries once they'd finished the take. He added: "It's little things like that with the camera angles, you can't use a stunt double. "[I] did have an amazing stunt double, but for the most part, I'll just say, 'Yeah, let's go. I'll just deal with the bruises later.'"

Fans go wild over steamy peach scene on hit teen drama The Summer I Turned Pretty
Warning: Contains spoilers from The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, episode 5 The wholesome teen series The Summer I Turned Pretty took a rather racy turn on Wednesday night's episode – and diehard fans could barely contain themselves. The drama is based on author Jenny Han's New York Times best-selling trilogy of the same name that has been adapted into a smash-hit series by Prime Video. Fans of the novels have waited patiently for the iconic peach scene from the book to come to life on the big screen, and the wait is finally over. In the episode directed by Jenny Han herself, the love triangle between Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, her fiance Jeremiah and his brother Conrad – who also happens to be her ex – intensifies after a pit stop at a roadside peach stand. With Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) away for work, Conrad (Christopher Briney) helps Belly (Lola Tung) prep for her and Jeremiah's wedding. But Conrad's feelings for her are reignited in the racy scene that involves her biting into a peach. Needless to say, the scene is rather, er, juicy … As the Rolling Stones' dreamy song Wild Horses plays in the background, the sexual tension between Belly and Conrad is undeniable as he watches her devour the peach with no inhibitions. With juice dribbling down her chin and the sunlight glowing on her hair, Belly has all of his attention. 'That is a perfect peach,' she says. 'My god, I don't want to eat another one cause there's no way that it could be this good.' Conrad hands her another and her theory is proven wrong as the second peach is even tastier. As more juice drips off her chin, a mesmerised Conrad impulsively walks towards her, pulls his tucked-in white shirt out from his pants, and uses it to pat dry Belly's mouth, leaving her speechless. The scene is being hailed as 'one of the most intimate, non-sex scenes on teen TV' – and the internet went wild for 'the best episode ever'. 'I lost my mind in today's episode omfg the peach scene,' one tweeted on X, as another agreed: 'THE PEACH SCENE i'm weak in the knees.' Another tweeted, 'That peach scenes gave me f***ing chills like oh my god I want to yell so badly, the way Conrad used his whole f***ing shirt hem to wipe her face??? That felt so initmate.' 'Belly and Conrad's peach scene in #TheSummerITurnedPretty is even steamier in the book. #TSITP,' yet another commented, while one added, 'The Belly and Conrad peach scene was life changing Jenny Han you genius!' One X user is convinced that there was an underlying lesson for Belly in the pivotal scene. 'This peach scene is so sexy,' they tweeted. 'Conrad gives belly a second peach. She says she doesn't want eat it bc the first one was so perfect. Conrad is teaching Belly that second bite of the peach can be just as good as the first bite.' Not since Twilight 's Team Edward/Team Jacob saga have we seen fan hysteria levels like this surrounding a book-to-screen adaptation with the Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah fandom exploding online. Even Jenny Han couldn't help but tease her fans on Instagram when she shared a photo of leading lady Lola Tung holding a peach in an off-set photo. 'Team Conrad you up??' Han captioned the cheeky snap. Han and Tung visited Australia last week for the Prime Video Book Club Live event in Sydney, where Tung told that she loves seeing the Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah discourse coming into play as fans pick sides in the love triangle. 'It's nice to see that people are so passionate about it,' she told us. 'The discourse is great – it's what you're supposed to feel. I think there should be a back-and-forth pull, especially over the three seasons. Because Belly's not always sure where her heart is leading her.' 'That's what makes it interesting and makes you want to follow on the journey with her,' she added. 'She's not always making the most perfect decision, but I think that's what growing up is about – making mistakes and learning from them and following your heart.' Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty began streaming on Prime Video on July 16, and in the first seven days since it premiered, a massive 25 million viewers had already tuned in to the hit series. 'It's really humbling to think we worked really hard on the show and then this many people are tuning in and spending time with us,' Han told at the event.

Lefties triggered over new Dunkin ad mirroring American Eagle's own with Sydney Sweeney
The left-winged mob have gone into meltdown following a recent advertisement by Dunkin that mirrored American Eagle's own with Sydney Sweeney. Dunkin's new ad, featuring 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' star Gavin Casalegno, comes only days after Sweeney's was slammed as Nazi propaganda. In the Dunkin ad, Casalegno was seen sipping on a drink by the pool while revealing his tan was down to genetics. 'Look, I didn't ask to be the king of summer, it just kinda happened. This tan? Genetics. I just got my colour analysis back, guess what? Golden summer, literally,' he said. 'I can't help it — every time I drink a Golden Hour Refresher, it's like the sun just finds me. So if sipping these refreshers makes me the king of summer? Guilty as charged.'
