Leagues Cup 2025: Luis Suarez leads Inter Miami to 3-1 win over Pumas
Miami played the match without Lionel Messi, who is sidelined indefinitely with what the team described as a minor muscle injury in his right leg.
Messi was hurt in the opening minutes of Inter Miami's win over Necaxa on Saturday. He was in attendance for Wednesday's match and watched from a suite at Chase Stadium.
Miami, which has eight points in the Major League Soccer Leagues Cup standings, is the first MLS club through to the tournament's knockout stages.

Rodrigo De Paul scored his first Inter Miami goal on an assist from Suarez in the 45th, tying the match after Pumas' Jorge Ruvalcaba opened scoring in the 34th.
De Paul, the star Argentine midfielder who came to MLS to play with his national team friend Messi, made his club debut in Inter Miami's League's Cup opener against Atlas last Wednesday and had two assists against Necaxa.
Suarez put Inter Miami ahead 2-1 when he converted a penalty kick in the 59th after a handball was called on Pumas defender José Caicedo in the penalty area.
It was Suarez first goal since he scored in Inter Miami's Club World Cup match against Palmeiras on June 23.
Tadeo Allende finished Suarez second assist of the night in the 69th.

First-place Union take on improving Toronto FC
The first-place Philadelphia Union will try to extend their four-match unbeaten run on Saturday night when they host a rebuilding Toronto FC side in Chester, Pa. HT Image The Union (15-5-5, 50 points) won three of those four games to take a one- point lead over Cincinnati atop the Eastern Conference standings entering the break for Leagues Cup play. Tai Baribo is three off the MLS Golden Boot pace with 15 goals. And Philadelphia added another striker on Tuesday in Milan Iloski on a permanent transfer from FC Nordsjaelland, after he scored 10 MLS goals earlier this season on loan at San Diego. Despite all that, Union manager Bradley Carnell is wary of an opponent that is defending much more compactly since the departure of Italian stars Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi at the end of June. "They plug up spaces, they drop players in the back line, they overload defending areas," Carnell said. "It's not going to be easy to break them down." Toronto has conceded a respectable 10 goals in eight MLS matches since a previous 2-1 defeat to the Union in Canada, while taking eight points from those games. The Reds (5-13-6, 21 points) just completed the first move of a self- proclaimed roster overhaul on Thursday, acquiring Djordje Mihailovic from the Colorado Rapids in a cash trade for a fee of up to $9 million. Mihailovic was the joint-leading Rapids scorer with nine goals before departing and also had seven assists. "Djordje's ability to deliver high-level output week in and week out is widely understood," Toronto FC general manager Jason Hernandez said in a statement. "But his winning mentality and desire to elevate TFC were key factors in securing him as our new number 10." It's not clear whether Mihailovic will be available for Saturday's match, but TFC would love to have him as soon as possible. Theo Corbeanu leads Toronto with five goals, but after Bernardeschi's departure, no one else has more than two. --Field Level Media

Atlanta United bringing confidence into match at CF Montreal
Wins have been hard to come by for Atlanta United this season, across all competitions. Before Wednesday's Leagues Cup victory against Atlas FC, they hadn't won since a 3-2 triumph against Orlando City back on May 28. HT Image They'll attempt to build off that Leagues Cup triumph when they visit fellow struggling squad CF Montreal on Saturday. Atlanta (4-11-9, 21 points) enters the match in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, 14 points behind the cutoff line and just three points ahead of Montreal (4-15-6, 18 points). Before the MLS paused for the Leagues Cup tournament, the Five Stripes were winless in eight, going 0-4-4 during that stretch. "Hopefully we can take that confidence (from the win on Wednesday) into the weekend," Atlanta coach Ronny Deila said. "Now we have to try to repeat and keep consistent in our performances. Then we will get more results. Still a lot to play for this season, 10 games left, 30 points. ... We're going to take it game by game." While they've managed to create and generate 60 shot attempts over their past five MLS matches, getting those attempts on target has been an issue, with only 16 of them reaching the net. Atlanta has managed just 91 shots on target through 24 matches, tied for fifth-fewest in the league, and is third from the bottom in accurate shooting percentage at 32 percent. Atlanta defeated Montreal 3-2 in the season opener for both sides back in February. The Five Stripes will be looking for their first road win of the season (0-7-4). Montreal hopes to pick up where it left off before the Leagues Cup, having earned its fourth win of the season, 3-1 against the New England Revolution, to snap a four-match winless run. The Canadian side also won its first match in the Leagues Cup (on penalties) before dropping the next two. "I think some players have discovered new facets to their game, and that's a big positive for our team," Montreal interim coach Marco Donadel said. "We're also much more resilient to face the challenges that lie ahead." One of those challenges is winning at home, where Montreal is 1-7-3, the fewest home victories in all of MLS. Its lone triumph came back on June 28 against New York City FC. The club's season-long offensive struggles are especially notable at home, where it's scored more than one goal only once -- in a 2-2 draw against LAFC on May 24. Prince Owusu leads Montreal with 11 goals, while Emmanuel Latte Lath paces Atlanta with seven. --Field Level Media

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill out of action with ACL injury
Chelsea centre back Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training, the Premier League club said late on Thursday, with the 22-year-old expected to miss much of the new season. The England international underwent successful surgery on the injury, Chelsea added. It typically takes some six to nine months for a player to recover from an ACL injury and return to action. 'The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week, before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training,' Chelsea said in a statement. Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase,' it added. Colwill made 43 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and helped the West London side win the Club World Cup in July. Chelsea, which finished fourth last season, opens its Premier League 2025-26 campaign against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 17. Related Topics Levi Colwill / Chelsea
