Naslen's Alappuzha Gymkhana Lands On OTT After Theatrical Success
Last Updated:
The film also features actors like Lukman Avaran, Sandeep Pradeep, Ganapathi, Kottayam Nazeer, Shine Tom Chacko and Abu Salim in significant roles.
Alappuzha Gymkhana, the Malayalam sports drama film featuring Naslen in the titular role, emerged as a box-office success upon its release in April this year. Helmed by Khalid Rahman, the film minted Rs 44.25 crore, net in India, as per sacnilk.com, making it one of Mollywood's most profitable hits this year. Did you miss watching on the big screens? Well, need not worry are the film will be coming to the OTT platforms soon.
Following a successful theatrical run, the film is preparing for its digital debut. Several rumours have been circulating about which streaming giant has got the rights, with names like Amazon Prime and JioHotstar in the running.
Now, the film is released on the streaming giant SonyLIV in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
The film also features Lukman Avaran, Sandeep Pradeep, Ganapathi, Kottayam Nazeer, Shine Tom Chacko and Abu Salim in significant roles.
It follows the story of five friends from Alappuzha who take up boxing to get college admission through the sports quota after failing their 12th-grade examinations. The story explores their friendship, relationships, and individual journeys as they navigate the world of boxing. While it incorporates elements of a sports drama, the film deviates from the typical underdog narrative, exploring the diverse motivations and approaches of the characters within the boxing world.
The screenplay of the film is written by Khalid Rahman and Sreeni Saseendran. It is backed by Khalid Rahman, Jobin George, Subeesh Kannanchery and Sameer Karat under Plan B Motion Pictures and Reelistic Studios.
Speaking about the making of the film, director Rahman earlier told OTTPlay, 'What I felt would be the most thrilling part of creating this film was having to bring in a group of young people and collaborate with them. It is not a boxing film centred on a particular actor or celebrity. There is a group of young actors who I could shape in any way I wanted. They would also devote their time and energy to the project, which was an advantage I noticed before making the film. And everything turned out well."
Apart from this, several other Malayalam films have also been released on OTT this week, including Thudarum, Pattth, Big Ben and Bromance among others.

Thug Life Makers Claim Karnataka Govt Not Acting Against Threats: 'Not A Single FIR Filed'
Last Updated: Kamal Haasan landed in a controversy recently during the Thug Life audio launch event in Chennai, where he made a statement linking the origins of the Kannada language to Tamil. The makers of Kamala Haasan's Thug Life have alleged that the Karnataka government is not protecting them from threats amid the actor's 'Kannada born out of Tamil" remark. Recently, the makers filed a plea in the court seeking protection and claimed that the state government has not filed even a single FIR as of now against groups who are openly threatening them. 'A fringe group issued threats of large-scale violence, including the burning of theatres and attacks against members of the Tamil linguistic minority residing in Karnataka. Despite these open and public threats, not a single FIR was registered, nor was any prosecution initiated by the State Government. On the contrary, the government appeared to adopt the position of the very fringe elements that issued those threats. We are aggrieved by this inaction and are now before the Supreme Court, seeking enforcement of this Court's past directions," Advocate A Velan said, as quoted by Hindustan Times. The plea of the Thug Life makers argued that such inaction violates the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. The Supreme Court has now sought the state government's response on this. For the unversed, Kamal Haasan landed in a big controversy recently during the Thug Life audio launch event in Chennai, where he made a statement linking the origins of the Kannada language to Tamil. 'Actor Shivarajkumar is my family living in another state. That's why he is here. That's why when I started my speech, I said 'my life and my family is Tamil'. Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil. So you are included in that line," he said. The actor's remarks quickly went viral and triggered backlash from pro-Kannada groups in Karnataka. The film was also banned in Karnataka, and a complaint was also filed against the actor. Later, Haasan also wrote a letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and claimed that his comment was 'misinterpreted'. 'It pains me that my statement at the Thug Life audio launch, spoken out of genuine affection for the legendary Dr. Rajkumar's family, especially Shiva Rajkumar has been misunderstood and taken out of context. My words were intended only to convey that we are all one and from the same family and not to diminish Kannada in any way. There is no dispute or debate on the rich legacy of Kannada language," he wrote. First Published:

'Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer': to Aadu 3': 3D Wave in Mollywood
Mollywood is embracing 3D technology, with filmmakers exploring its potential beyond fantasy genres. 'Aadu 3' is venturing into 3D, showcasing this shift. Jonita Doda highlights the immersive experience of India's first 3D romantic film, 'Salmon 3D,' while Tovino Thomas acknowledges the challenges of 3D filming, emphasizing that content remains paramount, regardless of the format. (Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Watching a movie in 3D is always an immersive experience, despite some critics. Coming to Mollywood, the industry seems to be shifting its gears to a new realm, and the most basic one would be 3D movies. Let's take a look at the 3D wave happening in the Malayalam film industry. 'Aadu' venturing into 3D Jayasurya and Midhun Manuel Thomas' hit series 'Aadu 3' is reportedly in 3D format. This shows how the Malayalam filmmakers are pushing the boundaries of 3D by not only limiting it to fantasy or fictional movies. Director Midhun Manuel Thomas surely would have seen the scope of storytelling via 3D, enhancing the theatrical experience; otherwise, a talented scriptwriter and filmmaker like him wouldn't be opting for such a format. (Picture Courtesy: Facebook) 'It adds a new dimension to the cinematic experience' - Jonita Doda In an exclusive conversation with the actress Jonita Doda, who has been part of India's first-ever romantic 3D film 'Salmon 3D' revealed that it adds a whole new theatrical experience. Talking to ETimes, the 'Salmon 3D' actress said, 'The USP of our film lies in two key aspects. Firstly, it is India's first-ever romantic 3D stereoscopic film, which adds a whole new dimension to the cinematic experience. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Scam Exposed: What They Won't Tell You about zero trust! Salmon 3D - Official Malayalam Trailer (Picture Courtesy: Facebook) 'Shooting with 3D cameras is a very tough thing to do' - Tovino Thomas Now let's move on to the production part of a 3D film. In a conversation with Mid Day, the 'ARM' actor Tovino Thomas said that shooting a movie in 3D is quite challenging. He said, 'Shooting with 3D cameras is a very tough thing to do. It takes more time and effort.' Coming to 'ARM', what the makers did was 3D conversion rather than shooting in 3D camera. He said, ''People won't be able to tell whether we shot it with 3D cameras or converted it later, because the technology has come so far. We already have clear guidelines on how to shoot for 3D conversion — there's a specific approach to follow, and our cinematographer was fully aware of that from the start.' Do all films require 3D? Well, the answer would be a clear NO! While 3D may enhance the theatre-viewing experience, not all stories are perfect that way. There may be several sequences added just for the sake of creating that 3D visual, and this would serve no purpose to the actual storyline. For a movie like 'My Dear Kuttichathan', 3D experience is well worth it. But if one were to pick a 3D format for a film like 'Drishyam', it would be a complete no and would feel complete injustice towards the content of the movie, unless there are some genuine reasons for adding 3D elements (hopefully there won't be any). Coming to the upcoming Jayasurya starrer 'Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer', it's quite sure that the 3D elements will work as everyone knows the storyline and how it can be perfectly suited for a 3D experience. Shooting in 3D or not, as we always say, the content of a movie matters.
