Shocking video shows UFC star Conor McGregor knock out man in nightclub

Yahoo4 hours ago

UFC star Conor McGregor was caught on camera getting violent with a man Tuesday morning at a nightclub in Ibiza.
Video obtained by British tabloid The Sun shows McGregor punching a man twice at a packed Pacha nightclub. In the footage, McGregor appears to be elevated while standing on a booth on the outskirts of the dance floor when he leans down toward a man facing him. Seconds later, McGregor punches the man with a short left hand and follows up with a harder, cleaner strike that knocks him down. McGregor stands and watches over the scene, shielded by his posse, while other club goers rush reacting to what happened.

The victim of McGregor's violence was apparently escorted out of the nightclub, while McGregor was allowed to continue partying.
A person at the nightclub told The Sun: 'Clearly something's been said to annoy him, and he's reacted very badly. The guy seemed to fall to the floor, and his mates came to pick him up and get him away. There (didn't appear to be any) consequences for Conor, but the guy he punched was taken away, and I didn't see him again.'
McGregor is no stranger to trouble in Ibiza. In 2023, a woman accused McGregor of attacking her on a yacht in Ibiza.
Tuesday's attack by McGregor is reminiscent of a 2019 incident in which McGregor was caught on video sucker punching an elderly man, seemingly for no reason, at a pub in Dublin.

McGregor, who turns 37 on July 14, hasn't been a part of any sanctioned violence inside of a UFC cage (or boxing ring) since a July 2021 TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in which he broke his leg.

Conor McGregor punches a man in a club — again — and is anyone even surprised anymore?

Stop me if you've heard this one before: Conor McGregor was just caught on camera punching a man in a club. Twice, in fact. Because apparently the lesson he learned from punching an older fellow in a Dublin pub all those years ago was that it only makes you look worse when the other guy shrugs off your once-feared left hand and goes back to his pint, so you might as well clock him again. This latest incident happened early Tuesday morning in a club on the Spanish island of Ibiza, according to The Sun. If you want to know just how far McGregor has fallen, note that the story identifies him as an 'ex-UFC star.' Advertisement There's also a quote in the story from an unnamed witness who said that there did not appear to be any 'consequences for Conor, but the guy he punched was taken away and I didn't see him again.' Which, yeah, don't that just say it all? At this point it would almost be more newsworthy if McGregor went on vacation and didn't hurt anybody. Then again, can you even call it vacation when the guy doesn't really do anything? McGregor made millions from becoming a star in the UFC and then slapping his name on a whiskey brand that he later sold, which now wants nothing to do with him. Ever since, he's been a professional problem child the world over, with accusations often followed by legal charges trailing behind wherever he goes. Advertisement At this point it takes longer to scroll through the 'charges and controversies' section of his Wikipedia page than the 'professional mixed martial arts career' portion. That discrepancy is likely to continue, since there's only one of those sections that he still seems interested in adding on to. McGregor hasn't done the kind of fighting he gets paid for since 2021, when he suffered a broken leg and a TKO loss at the hands of Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He was supposed to return against Michael Chandler last summer, but a devastating injury to his pinky toe forced him to pull out. Since then, he's been found liable for sexual assault in his home country of Ireland, a nation he has also insisted he will soon lead as president. He also had a lawsuit filed against him earlier this year for an alleged sexual assault at a Miami Heat game in 2023. You might remember his appearance at that game since he also punched a mascot, who then had to be treated for his injuries at the hospital later that night. All of this is in addition to his many other crimes and misdemeanors, like that time he threw a hand truck through the window of a bus filled with fellow fighters in New York. That, like this most recent club incident, was caught on video. So was that sucker-punch on a pub patron in Dublin. So was the incident where he snatched a man's phone and stomped on it outside a Florida nightclub in 2019. Advertisement The other thing they have in common is that McGregor has suffered no meaningful consequences for any of it. He's paid out fines and settlements, sure. But the fact that he keeps doing this — and doesn't even seem to care that he's doing it on video — shows how much he fears being caught at it again. The Dublin sexual assault case was the closest he's come to feeling any real pain as a result of his own actions. Everyone from video game makers to the whiskey brand owners to the people who put up a likeness of him in their wax museum all cut ties with him after that. Not the UFC, though. Those doors still seem open to him, if he ever rediscovers a willingness to punch someone who's ready and willing to punch back. McGregor is a colossal embarrassment to this sport, but that's nothing new. That's been our reality for several years now. He's the worst of all worlds. He's a fighter who doesn't fight, except when he's not supposed to. He was the biggest star in UFC history, and the association is still strong enough that he can continue to heap shame onto MMA while offering it nothing in return. Maybe the best we can hope for is that as these incidents become more common and even the hint of a UFC return becomes less plausible, eventually he'll become an embarrassment only to himself. It could be that we're almost there. They are calling him an 'ex-UFC star' now, after all. That's a label that's hard to argue with, since he's certainly not a future one.

Conor McGregor caught on video knocking out man in Ibiza nightclub

Conor McGregor is once again in the news for the wrong reasons. Conor McGregor's only fights continue to come outside of the cage. Footage emerged Tuesday of the former UFC two-division champion twice punching a man in an Ibiza nightclub. In the video, which was first published by The Sun, McGregor can be seen speaking with an unidentified man from an elevated position before throwing two left hands in rapid succession, with the second punch sending the man reeling to the floor of the Pacha nightclub. Advertisement The Sun reported that the altercation occurred at 5:53 a.m. and that McGregor was permitted to stay while the victim of his punches was thrown out of the club. No arrests were reportedly made at the scene. Video of the altercation can be watched below. McGregor, 36, has not fought since he suffered a first-round loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, however his name has remained in the headlines, often for the wrong reasons. McGregor was found liable for a 2018 sexual assault this past November and currently faces a sexual assault lawsuit stemming from an alleged 2023 incident in Miami. In a separate incident in Ibiza in 2023, he was accused of attacking a women on his yacht. This past January, he dropped multiple racial epithets in a social-media tirade against former rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. Tuesday's news also harkens back to the fighter's infamous sucker-punch attack of a 50-year-old man at a Dublin pub in 2019. Advertisement Both McGregor and representatives for the UFC star have yet to comment on his latest altercation. McGregor was expected to make a long-discussed UFC return against Michael Chandler in June 2024, however the bout was cancelled weeks out from the event due to a broken toe suffered by the Irishman.

Journalist hit by LA deputies' round at ICE protest needed surgery, claim says

A British photojournalist needed emergency surgery to remove shrapnel that came from an 'explosive' round shot by deputies during a Los Angeles County protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a legal claim. The photographer, Nicholas Stern, filed the claim against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, accusing the agency of civil rights violations. The legal action was shared with McClatchy News on June 17. 'Upon information and belief, the use of force was motivated by Stern and the surrounding individuals' perceived political affiliation pertaining to immigration,' Stern's attorney, V. James DeSimone, wrote in the claim dated June 16. The sheriff's department did not immediately return McClatchy News' request for comment June 17. Stern is a journalist in Los Angeles working for the British news industry, according to the Guardian. At an ICE protest in Compton on June 7, Stern saw sheriff's deputies using 'less-lethal weapons' against the crowd, including '40mm munitions, flash bang projectiles' and 'pepper spray,' the legal claim says. While there, he 'habitually' held his press badge and camera in the air to 'make it visible that he was a journalist' after covering ICE protests in downtown Los Angeles earlier in the day, according to the filing. A 'skirmish line' — which involved sheriff's department vehicles situated to protect deputies — was put in place by law enforcement on Alondra Boulevard at about 6 p.m., according to the claim. Then, about 10 to 15 people at the demonstration established a 'barricade' and began tossing 'projectiles towards the skirmish line,' the claim said. 'The skirmish line was approximately 200 feet away from the barricade,' DeSimone wrote, adding that Stern was photographing the situation from at least 40 feet away from the demonstrators' barricade. Projectile gets fired at the protest Within a few hours, before, 9 p.m, the claim says Stern observed a group of people 'peacefully protesting' by 'waving flags and chanting' when deputies fired projectiles toward them. While near a person holding a Mexican flag, Stern first saw an explosion, then felt intense pain, the claim continues. Deputies had fired a round from what was possibly a 40mm launcher, according to the claim, which says a casing then 'rocketed into (Stern's) thigh causing an open wound and the pouring of blood.' After Stern was helped to a nearby curb by several protesters in the area, DeSimone wrote in the claim that he fainted from the pain and awoke to a medic bandaging his bleeding leg. Stern was taken to the emergency room at Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center, where a CT scan revealed he had a '40mm by 60mm' piece of shrapnel stuck in his leg, according to the claim. He was put in an ambulance and transferred to Long Beach Medical Center for surgery, the claim says. Surgical staff inside the center's trauma unit removed the object, which 'fits the description of a less lethal projectile deputies use and fire from a 40mm launcher,' according to the claim. 'He is still in excruciating pain after it was surgically removed,' DeSimone said in a June 17 news release. Stern appeared with DeSimone at his law office in Marina del Rey to announce the claim's filing at a June 17 news conference livestreamed on DeSimone's Instagram page. The claim accuses Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies of purposely firing projectiles at him or near him, without him or anyone near him posing a threat. The claim says they violated a preliminary injunction that puts limits on when deputies can use less-lethal weapons as crowd control measures against non-violent protesters. The legal action seeks to hold deputies accountable under California law, specifically for alleged battery, negligence and negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It says Sheriff Robert G. Luna and other supervisors within the county sheriff's department have failed to properly train deputies. As a result, the department's supervisors have enabled and condoned deputies using excessive force, according to the claim. 'Los Angeles County Sheriffs shot an explosive device directly into a crowd, violating its policies, an injunction, and the U.S. Constitution,' DeSimone said in the release. The protests against ICE began in Los Angeles County on June 6, according to USA Today. Similar protests ensued in the following days, nationwide in dozens of U.S. cities. On June 7, in reaction to the demonstrations criticizing deportations in the U.S., President Donald Trump had 2,000 members of the National Guard deployed to Los Angeles, McClatchy News reported. DeSimone previously represented Stern in a federal lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department, which resulted in a $150,000 settlement in February 2024, according to a report by the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, a news site and database run by the Freedom of the Press Foundation. When he sued Los Angeles police in May 2021, he accused officers of misconduct in connection with force used against him when he covered a May 2020 protest over the death of George Floyd, according to the report. The recent immigration protests in the U.S. were followed by nationwide 'No Kings' protests on June 14, when a U.S. Army parade was held in celebration of its 250th anniversary, McClatchy News reported. It was also Trump's birthday on June 14.
