I tried Dua Lipa's £799 compression boots that 'squeeze the life out of you'

Daily Mirror21-06-2025
The Normatec 3 Legs Compression Boots were on the top of my list to try as I'd heard Dua Lipa say they "squeeze the life out of you" and "save you doing a foot massage"
Dua Lipa 's luxury compression boots appeared on my radar six months ago, when the pop singer raved about them during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Six months later, I spotted them at my local gym and knew my time had come to finally give them a try.
On The Late show, Dua Lipa said: "I have recently bought these compression boots. They go all the way up to here [pointing to her thigh], you press and button and they squeeze the life out of you. It's the best thing in the world and it'll save you doing a foot massage!".
Since hearing about them, I wondered whether the Hyperice Normatec 3 Legs Compression Boots - that compress you from your toes all the way up past your thighs - would benefit my hypermobility and I realised I've been using the technique for most of my life.
Suffering with long-term joint issues, muscle pains and spasms since I was 11 years old, my hypermobility has led to constant aches that keep me up at night and even my hands freezing up from typing regularly on a laptop or phone.
With my budget-friendly method consisting of pull-on bandages, vapour rub and baths filled with magnesium, it's pretty obvious that I wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to lay in the same high-tech luxury boots that the likes of Dua Lipa and Jennifer Anniston swear by.

My review of Normatec 3 Compression Boots
I spotted the boots tucked away in a corner of the new Gymbox opening event in Finsbury Park. Removing my shoes, I placed my feet into the boots, zipped up and watched them be filled with air. Needing to lay back to elevate my feet, the boots reached my upper thighs and began to tighten around every muscle down to my toes.
The feeling was initially uncomfortable and I felt slight panicked, not liking the sensation at first. The instructor told me that this was often the case, and then your body adjusts and you begin to love it. Whilst I was sceptical of the boots that felt like my legs had been swallowed by a blood-pressure machine, he was right!
After I moved past the strangeness of having the life sucked out of your legs, it felt quite comforting to have them elevated and held by the compression boots. Pulsing up and down, and squeezing my toes, I was told that this encouraged blood flow and helped muscles recover from a work out.
I enjoyed the break from aching muscles so much that I asked for an extra five minutes! I felt considerably lighter afterwards and the soles of my feet were 'buzzing' on the way home. I also noted that my feet did not ache at all that night and only returned after the next day.
Where to buy Normatec 3 Compression Boots
If you want to own the Hyperice Normatec 3 Legs Compression Boots yourself, you can buy them directly from the Hyperice website or online at Boots and Amazon, but they'll set you back £799. Luckily, the boots, or similar alternatives, can be found in airport lounges in in gyms, like Gymbox in Finsbury Park, which recently opened.

That was up from 28 per cent a year ago. And 36 per cent said they thought it was less acceptable for their pals to get drunk on a night out. One in three pub visits are now totally booze-free, with a quarter of those surveyed choosing to finish off the night with a soft drink. The trend is a far cry from the traditional image of beer-swilling booze hounds sinking as many pints as possible before last orders. More than eight in ten (82 per cent) cited their health as the main reason for being more responsible around alcohol — rising to 90 per cent among under 35s. Four in ten drinks consumed on a night out are now low or no-alcohol, with zero or reduced booze beer the second most popular choice — up from seventh place last year. Almost two in five, some 37 per cent, admitted they went home early in a huff over the lack of low-alcohol options down the pub. More than three in ten (35 per cent) expect pubs to offer alcohol-free beer on draught. And three in five people (59 per cent) said there was less stigma attached to choosing alcohol-free beverages than there used to be. The survey was carried out by hospitality industry researchers at KAM and zero beer brand Lucky Saint. Dua Lipa 'splits the G' in popular Dublin pub Pub trade newspaper the Morning Advertiser, which published the findings, said: 'More than three-quarters of UK adults are moderating their alcohol consumption, according to new research. 'One in three pub visits are alcohol-free and a quarter of adults choose to make their final drink an alcohol-free one in order to stay out longer.'

The controversial remedy Lorde used to ‘cure stage fright' before Glastonbury set – it can help anxiety and PTSD too

LORDE has opened up about the unconventional therapy that helped her overcome crippling stage fright. The Royals singer kicked off Glastonbury festival earlier today with a surprise pre-lunchtime set to a packed crowd on the Woodsies stage. 4 4 4 Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week, the New Zealand pop star revealed she used MDMA - known by its street name ecstasy – to conquer her fear of performing. Asked how she moved past it, the 28-year-old replied: 'Well, it's MDMA therapy. Truly, like, changed the game on my stage fright.' MDMA therapy, also called MDMA-assisted therapy, involves taking a controlled dose of the drug in a supervised medical setting, alongside sessions with a trained therapist. It's designed to help people process difficult emotions or trauma in a calm, open state. A growing body of research shows MDMA-assisted therapy could help people with a range of psychological issues, including PTSD, anxiety and depression. Trials exploring its potential to treat marriage problems, alcoholism and long-term grief are also underway or imminent. In a controversial world first, since July 1, 2023, some psychiatrists in Australia have been allowed to prescribe MDMA for PTSD under strict medical supervision. This is unlike in Lorde's New Zealand, where MDMA is still illegal for general use and is classed as a controlled drug, meaning having it without permission can lead to jail time. Switzerland also permits limited use of MDMA in therapy, while Canada allows it through a special access programme. In the US, it's not yet legal, with full approval for treating PTSD denied just last year over concerns it was not effective enough. I watched in horror as my son, 16, was killed by super-strength ecstasy – my warning to parents ahead of Glastonbury The UK still classifies MDMA as a Class A drug, meaning it is illegal to possess, sell or prescribe, although campaigners are calling for change. The ban is largely due to concerns over its potential for abuse and side-effects. When used recreationally, it can lead to raised heart rate, anxiety, confusion and, in some cases, dangerous overheating, according to Talk to Frank. There's also the risk of impure street versions. But in a controlled medical setting, where the dose is pure and carefully monitored these risks are minimal. The drug works by stimulating the brain's production of serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline - chemicals associated with feeling good or happy. 4 This creates a sense of calm and emotional safety, making it easier for people to open up during therapy sessions. Experts say the drug helps people face painful memories or fears without becoming overwhelmed, allowing the brain to 'rewire' how it responds to stress. Trials have shown it can be especially effective for people who haven't responded to traditional treatments. The results were immediate Lorde detailed how the treatment helped where other approaches had failed. 'Some of these things live very deep in the body, and you hold on to it,' she said. 'You hold on to a response like stage fright for reasons that no amount of talk therapy or brain use could get at. "But when you bypass that and get to the body, something shifts. And that totally happened for me.' After trying 'everything' to manage her performance anxiety, Lorde said the results were immediate. 'I was like, oh, it's over. I know it's over.'
