Ex-Man Utd star Paul Pogba drops transfer bombshell in fresh twist to saga
Paul Pogba will return to football this summer after his doping ban and is tipped to join Monaco - but the ex-Manchester United midfielder insists no deal has been struck
Paul Pogba insists he "hasn't signed anything" amid reports the ex- Manchester United star is about to join Monaco. The Frenchman has been out of the game for nearly two years due to a doping ban and is looking for a new club.
Most recently he had been on the books at Juventus but the Italian side have shown no interest in bringing him back for a third time. Pogba is now into his 30s but has proved to be hugely talented throughout his career, even if consistency has evaded him.
Monaco, who are in the Champions League, are ready to take a put on the World Cup winner with Le Parisien reporting last week that Pogba was set to join the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer after agreeing a two-year deal. They claimed he had "made significant financial sacrifices" to secure the deal.
It would be a huge boost for Monaco with Pogba potentially returning to his homeland for the first time since leaving Le Harve in 2009. However the player has come out and poured water on the idea of heading to the Riviera.
He said on Sergio Aguero's podcast, La Casa del Kun: "I haven't signed anything, but there's interest. We'll see."
Pogba has also flirted with the idea of heading to South America to play with Argentine giants Boca Juniors, citing their fans as a huge draw. He said: "In life, you never know. I loved the people who went to see Boca's match (at the Club World Cup), it's crazy because I went to Marseille, which is hot, Naples is hot, but Boca... I've never seen that in my life."
The Frenchman's career is yet to hit the heights that were once expected of him. He first hit the heights when he left Manchester and excelled at Juventus, which prompted those at Old Trafford to spend a club-record fee to bring him back when Jose Mourinho was in charge.
However his six years in Manchester were hugely inconsistent and, after claiming two trophies in his first year, he failed to pick up anymore silverware. He return to Juventus when his contract expired but the Old Lady were not the force of old and his stint was somewhat underwhelming.
Pogba did previously underline his desire to again play for Les Blues during an interview with Sky Sports. He said: "I hope. It is in my mind for sure. I have to be ready for that. There are players who deserve to play and I have to win my place back. I am ready to fight."

If Pogba does end up joining Monaco, he will count a number of fellow former Premier League players as team-mates. This includes Balogun, who joined Monaco from Arsenal back in 2023. The 23-year-old enjoyed a decent debut campaign, netting eight goals in 32 games across all competitions, but struggled with injury problems last season that limited him to just seven starts. However, Balogun is a proven goalscorer in Ligue 1 after netting 21 goals in 37 games during a loan spell at Reims. Balogun later stated that he decided to go to France because he wanted to step out of his comfort zone and challenge himself, with the decision earning him praise from former Arsenal and Monaco star Thierry Henry. "I'm really happy for him because in general English players don't go abroad – normally players are loaned either to another Premier League side or in the Championship," Henry said on Prime Video in 2022. "He's a very English-style player who likes to run down the channels but he was missing something, which was his finishing. He's now starting to score goals regularly and I'm happy for that, happy he has gone abroad. "It's especially so considering he is a Londoner – in general Londoners struggle to leave London. When I heard he was coming to France, it made me think he has a refreshing mindset." Balogun was born in America, but grew up in London after emigrating to England when he was just two-years-old. He joined Arsenal's academy at the age of 10 and represented both England and the US at age group level before ultimately deciding to play for America at senior level. And his decision to declare for America came after he was left out of Gareth Southgate's first England squad for 2023, despite his impressive form for Reims. After the squad was announced, Balogun appeared to take aim at England as he posted on Instagram: "In life, go where you're appreciated. Be easy." Just a few months later, it was announced that he had committed to the US and he has been ever-present for them since, although he is yet to make an appearance under Mauricio Pochettino due to his recent injury struggles.

'World's sexiest footballer' is on the losing team as Swiss women are beaten 7-1 by an UNDER-15s team in second defeat to youth side ahead of Euros
The Swiss women's team slumped to a 7-1 defeat to male Under-15 side FC Luzern in a disappointing warm-up match as they prepare to host the Euros next month. Alisha Lehmann, previously dubbed the 'world's sexiest footballer' was part of the side which took the lead through Alayah Pilgrim before conceding seven goals in a row to the youth team. The defeat was their second to an Under-15 side in their Euro 2025 preparations having also lost 2-1 to FC Solothurn. Footage of the match circulated on social media and reportedly received 70,000 views on TikTok before being deleted. Switzerland played a second-string team, with boss Pia Sundhage fielding 26 players, including third choice goalkeeper Nadine Böhi. Swiss Football Association media spokesperson Sven Micossé told Blick: 'It's not uncommon in women's football to compete against junior teams. 'The goal: to bring a certain competitive element. The focus during this phase of preparation is on the physical aspect. Regardless of the result, these training games are very similar to our international matches in terms of intensity and mileage.' Switzerland face Norway in their opening group game on Thursday and will hope to improve on their showing at the previous Euros, where they picked up just one point in three games. Since then, the couple had enjoyed a close relationship and both sealed a move to Italian giants Juventus during the summer window last year. Luiz joined from Aston Villa for £42.4 million having emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Lehmann followed suit just seven days later, also moving from Villa, and is contracted until 2027.
