RuPaul's Drag Race star Jiggly Caliente undergoes leg amputation after 'severe infection'

Yahoo24-04-2025

RuPaul's Drag Race alum Jiggly Caliente has undergone a life-altering surgery following a major health emergency.
The 44-year-old star, whose real name is Bianca Castro, had most of her right leg amputated after being hospitalised with a "severe infection", her family confirmed in a statement shared to social media.
'The family of Bianca Castro, known to many as the beloved drag performer Jiggly Caliente, is heartbroken to share that over the last month Bianca has experienced a serious health setback,' the message began.
'Due to a severe infection, she was hospitalised and, as a result, has undergone the loss of most of her right leg.'
Jiggly, who is also a judge on Drag Race Philippines and appeared in the FX series Pose, will be stepping back from public life for the time being, her family confirmed.
'She will not be appearing on the upcoming season, nor will she be participating in any public engagements for the foreseeable future,' her family added. 'Her recovery will be extensive.'
They continued: 'At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Bianca and her family as they navigate this difficult journey together. While Jiggly concentrates on healing, we invite her friends, fans, and community to uplift her with messages of hope and love on her social media channels.'
Jiggly's family and drag house also expressed their gratitude for the "continued outpouring of support, strength, and prayers."
Since the announcement, members of the drag community and fans have flooded her feed with love and well-wishes.
Drag Race star Marina Summers commented: 'Sending all love to you and your family! We are here for youuu!' while Jujubee added: 'I love you so much. Can't wait to see you again'.
Manila Luzon wrote: 'Praying for you, sister.'
Jiggly first rose to fame in 2012, placing eighth on Season 4 of RuPaul's Drag Race, and returned for All Stars Season 6 in 2021.
She came out publicly as trans in 2016 and has since been vocal about embracing her identity and body.
Speaking to Xtra in 2015, Jiggly reflected on an earlier hospitalisation that led to lifestyle changes.
'I had a health scare two years ago and I ended up in the hospital, so ever since then my eating has changed,' she said. 'Now I love mashed potatoes, but I don't necessarily eat them with fried chicken all the time anymore, you know?'
She added: 'It came to a point where I said, 'I'm not the skinny, gorgeous girl. I'm the big gorgeous girl. Get it!' There's a role for everybody and my role is the big, sexy girl.'

Tyra Banks and Jenna Lyons Among Project Runway Guest Judges for Season 21

Season 21 of Project Runway is coming soon! Not only did we just learn the lineup of contestants, but Freeform also just announced the slate of guest judges. The panel is about to be star-studded when the show returns this summer. They've tapped celebs from all across the worlds of fashion and media, including Tyra Banks and Jenna Lyons. Check out the full lineup below. E! News dropped all of the tea about the upcoming season of Project Runway, which features two past contestants and a RuPaul's Drag Race alum. Heidi Klum will lead the show, with Nina Garcia and Law Roach serving as judges. Christian Siriano is going to be a mentor for the designers in the workroom. That's already a solid lineup, but the guest judges are like the icing on the cake. Tyra, who hosted America's Next Top Model for ages, will bring her expertise to the panel in addition to Jenna, who leveraged her J. Crew success into a stint on The Real Housewives of New York. Other A-listers slated to appear throughout the season include Sofia Vergara, Joan Smalls, Mickey Guyton, and Nikki Glaser. Plus, there are a ton of famous designers like Christian Cowan and Michael Kors. Freeform is pulling out all of the stops to make sure the show's jump from Bravo is successful. In an interview with E! News, Christian teased the dynamic on the judges' panel. He said that fans can expect to see Law delivering his signature, unfiltered commentary. And since everyone has different tastes, some of the judges don't always see eye to eye. He teased, 'Having Law as a judge is incredible, because you're getting very real fashion in the moment.' 'It's incredible Heidi being back makes it so fun and amazing,' Christian continued. 'Her and Law don't like the same things, and Nina doesn't like the same things.' Project Runway returns Thursday, July 31, at 9/8c. on Freeform. TELL US – ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 21? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE LINEUP OF GUEST JUDGES? How Jon Bernthal Became Hollywood's Most Dependable Bruiser

When Jon Bernthal was cast as a petty drug dealer in 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' Martin Scorsese's 2013 white-collar crime epic, the actor wasn't even supposed to have many lines. But Bernthal went into that film intending to take his shot. So he came in for a wordless B-roll scene in which the script had him lifting weights in a backyard, asked the second-unit director to mic him and riffed for 45 minutes. Scorsese wasn't there that day, but here's what he saw in the footage: a shirtless Bernthal curling dumbbells, tormenting some teenage boys with a baseball bat and peacocking his virility. 'Bring some of them chicks around here sometime,' he says. Then Bernthal makes a brilliant little decision about his tough guy's whereabouts. 'Hey, Ma, we got chicken or what?' he yells toward the house. 'Ma!' There was no 'Ma' in the script. No one even said he lived with his mother. The role introduced Bernthal as an excellent character actor. Since then, he has become the guy who shows up onscreen unexpectedly, delivers the most memorable performance in a scene or two and then vanishes. This is perhaps why he's so often playing dead men in flashbacks. He's the dramatic center of gravity in FX's 'The Bear,' appearing just once or twice per season as the deceased family patriarch, and the tragic romantic in the 2017 Taylor Sheridan film 'Wind River.' Bernthal was so good in 'The Accountant,' an improbable 2016 Ben Affleck-led movie about an autistic accountant turned gunslinger, that the filmmakers made this year's sequel a two-hander. Bernthal has had leading roles too, most notably in 'We Own This City,' the HBO miniseries about Baltimore police corruption in which the actor's performance was criminally overlooked. But for the most part, he has carved out a career of supporting roles. So it made perfect sense when he told me that one of his favorite movies is 'True Romance,' Tony Scott's 1993 adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's first script. Christian Slater may have been the lead, but it was the supporting characters played by Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt and Dennis Hopper who stole the film. 'There are so many people who are in it for a scene or two,' Bernthal said, 'but you could have made a movie about any one of those characters.' We were having breakfast in Ojai, Calif., where Bernthal lives. The previous day, he returned from New York where he was promoting 'The Accountant 2.' Before that he was in Greece and Morocco, filming a role in 'The Odyssey' with Christopher Nolan, which is perhaps the greatest honor that can be bestowed on a dramatic actor these days. In front of him was a pile of egg whites, spinach, fruit and gluten-free toast. 'I'm like a gorilla,' he said. 'I eat a lot.' Most actors, once they get lead roles, are advised to turn down anything smaller. But Bernthal is allergic to strategizing about how to become a leading man or listening to agents and managers who want to find him a 'star vehicle.' The only real mistake he made in his career, he told me, happened because he let that sort of thinking get in his head. But he has switched agents since then. He knows he has become the guy who everyone calls for a favor, but then again 'The Bear' was a favor. And that turned into one of the most rewarding experiences of Bernthal's career. The intensity he brought to the role won him an Emmy, and now he has even co-written an episode in the upcoming season. 'I can't imagine deciding what you're going to do in this super-tenuous field while being so dependent on some businessman's strategy,' he said.
