Dubai: Gold prices witness slight drop, 24K trading at Dh402.5

On Wednesday morning, gold prices in Dubai opened slightly lower with 24K trading at Dh402.5 and 22K at Dh372.5 per gram. Spot gold was trading at $3,338.87 per ounce, up 0.25 per cent. According to analysts at World Gold Council (WGC), gold prices could see a moderate increase in the second half of 2025, driven by trade tensions, US inflation dynamics and monetary policy. The precious metal entered the second half of 2025 coming off an exceptionally strong start to the year — up 26 per cent — shaped by a weaker US dollar, persistent geopolitical risk, robust investor demand, and continued central bank purchases. With gold prices reaching an all-time high this year, jewellery shoppers and investors in Dubai and the UAE have been wondering whether they should buy or sell. 'While some of these drivers are expected to persist, the path forward remains highly dependent on multiple factors, including trade tensions, inflation dynamics, and monetary policy. Consensus expectations suggest a relatively steady finish for gold with moderate upside potential if macro conditions hold. Gold could also be partly supported by contributions from new institutional investors, such as Chinese insurance companies,' World Gold Council analysts said in the half-yearly report. Gold has been rallying over the past couple of years due to geopolitical tensions, buying by central banks and the US tariffs row with its trading partner. The WGC analysts noted that 'a more volatile geopolitical and geo-economic scenario could push gold significantly higher, particularly if more substantial stagflation or recession risks materialise and investor appetite for safe-haven assets grows.' On the other side, analysts said widespread and sustained global trade normalisation would bring higher yields and resurgent risk appetite, challenging gold's momentum. Gold could also be tested by a visible deceleration in central bank demand beyond current expectations. "We believe that gold, through its fundamentals, remains well-positioned to support tactical and strategic investment decisions in the current macro landscape,' they said. If the market turns bearish, WGC analysis suggests that gold could retreat by 12 per cent to 17 per cent in the second half, finishing the year with positive but low double-digit or even single-digit returns. 'The reduction in risk, combined with an increase in opportunity cost — through rising yields and a stronger dollar — would trigger gold ETF outflows and reduce overall investment demand. We could also see a deceleration in central bank demand if US Treasuries are again favoured. Gold market technical analysis and speculative positioning suggest that $3,000/oz would be a natural 'support level', prompting opportunistic investment buying. If gold were to break through these levels, disinvestment may accelerate,' analysts said.

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways ramp up operations after Wizz Air's exit

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, the capital's first low-cost carrier, has expanded its fleet with the addition of two Airbus A320 aircraft, bringing its total fleet size to 12 aircraft. The carrier also announced plans to add two more Airbus A320 aircraft before the end of the year. This fleet increase will boost total capacity by 40 per cent in 2025, reinforcing Air Arabia Abu Dhabi's commitment to the growth of the Capital's aviation sector. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways also announced seven new destinations across the Gulf, Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia regions to further expand its network. The new destinations are Almaty, Kazakhstan; Baku, Azerbaijan; Bucharest, Romania; Madina, Saudi Arabia; Tbilisi, Georgia; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and Yerevan, Armenia. The airline said that the increase of flights was part of its strategy to bring more point-to-point traffic directly to Abu Dhabi. The announcements from the two airlines comes on the heels of Wizz Air's decision to withdraw from Abu Dhabi in September 2025 and focus on its main eastern European market. The Hungary-headquartered airline blamed recent geopolitical instability for frequent airspace closures and disruptions, which have hit travel demand, meaning there was no hope for recovery at the loss-making unit. Air Arabia Abu Dhabi said this expansion is part of the airline's ongoing growth strategy. Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer, Air Arabia, said, "The addition of new aircraft and our strategic fleet expansion reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and expanding our network reach. This growth supports the rising demand for air travel to and from Abu Dhabi." He added, "The planned capacity increase in 2025 will further contribute to the capital's broader economic and tourism vision while continuing to offer value-driven air travel to our customers." Air Arabia Abu Dhabi's recent network expansions include new routes to Yerevan, Almaty, and Sialkot, further broadening its reach. The airline now connects Abu Dhabi with non-stop service to over 30 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and Eastern Europe, offering seamless travel options for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. Since its launch in 2020, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi has emerged as a key enabler of air connectivity from the UAE capital, providing its customers with affordable and reliable air travel. With Wizz Air's departure from the market, budget travellers may face higher ticket prices. However, affordable options remain available for short-haul travellers and backpackers through carriers like SalamAir, Flynas, SpiceJet, Jazeera Airways, Air Arabia, Flyadeal, Fly Jinnah, and others.

UAE Rolls Out Stricter Hajj Campaign Rules for 2026

Planning to go on Hajj in 2026? The UAE just shook things up. A brand-new system is now in place for selecting and accrediting Hajj campaign organizers—part of the country's bigger mission to make the pilgrimage smoother, more organized, and better all around. Quality Over Everything The new rules are clear: only the best will be approved. Campaigns will be judged based on service quality, admin strength, financial readiness, and how well they performed last season. So if a campaign was all over the place in 2025, chances are they won't make the cut this time. Tailored for You (Yes, You!) Organizers who offer flexible and diverse service packages—catering to all kinds of pilgrim budgets and needs—are more likely to get that approval stamp. Basically, UAE wants you to have options, and good ones at that. Why It Matters For most UAE pilgrims, joining an accredited Hajj group is the only way to go. From handling logistics to offering spiritual support, these campaigns shape your entire experience. The new system makes sure only the best organizers are allowed to take you on that journey. Stepping Up After Past Complaints Let's be real—past Hajj seasons had their fair share of issues. Disorganization, lack of updates, confusing processes. UAE authorities heard the complaints and responded with stricter monitoring, performance checks, and even digital tracking. This latest move is the next big step.
