Previewing 4-star quarterback Jayce Johnson's commitment
The Florida State Seminoles already have three commitments in their 2027 recruiting class, and they are looking to add the quarterback of the class. Jayce Johnson, a four-star prospect, is set to announce his commitment on Sunday, and the Seminoles are a finalist.
They have plenty of competition for the Valdosta, Georgia product, who is also considering the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Tennessee Volunteers. The good news for FSU is that they and Texas A&M appear to have separated from the pack, but the Aggies are leading ahead of his announcement.
FSU has landed its quarterback of the 2026 cycle in Jaden O'Neal and would love to get an early jump on the 2027 cycle by landing Johnson. His addition would give them someone they can build the class around and attract other elite talents.
Johnson had a productive sophomore season for Lowndes High School, leading them to a 10-2 record. Johnson completed 67.2% (123-183) of his passes for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, per MaxPreps. He also rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns on 79 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.
Here's everything you need to know about his recruitment before he commits.
Decision Time
Johnson is scheduled to make his commitment on Sunday, Aug. 3. He has not revealed what time he will do so.
The Finalists
His Recruitment
The Seminoles extended Johnson a scholarship offer on Oct. 1, 2024, and have been new the top of his recruitment ever since. He has taken three visits since then, including two in June before naming them one of his finalists.
Recruiting Ranking
Prediction
My Pick: Texas A&M Aggies
The Seminoles can not be ruled out, but the Aggies look to have the momentum in Johnson's recruitment and will look to seal the deal on Sunday. FSU has proximity on its side and has done a good job recruiting Georgia, but they will need to pull off the upset to land him.

Rising 2027 4-star WR includes Texas A&M in his Top 9 program list
Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is beginning to take shape after four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson and four-star offensive tackle DaMarrion Johnson became the Aggies' first two commitments in the cycle. Both players are considered elite at their respective positions, and compared to this time last year, the Aggies landed two of their now 27 commits in the 2026 cycle, so this could be an excellent sign for the cycle. Under WR coach Holmon Wiggins, who has proven his ability to recruit and land players from the transfer portal, the team secured 2025 five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles, paired with offseason transfer additions KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. During his time at Alabama, Wiggins developed several first-round wideouts, including Heisman winner Devonta Smith. In the 2026 class, Texas A&M has landed four-star wide receivers Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown, who have all shut down their recruitments, and in the 2027 cycle, Wiggins and OC Collin Klein have their sights set on four-star WR Jabari Watkins out of Thomasville, Georgia. Like Madden Williams, Watkins is 6'2" and one of the bigger-bodied receivers in the class, and was highly productive last season with Thomas County Central, racking up 692 yards and five touchdowns on the year. Much of these yards came off chunk yards on short passes, where he has also thrived in bubble screens due to his impressive speed and agility after the catch. This week, Watkins placed Texas A&M in his Top 9 program list, joining Georgia, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Illinois, Pitt, Cal, Nebraska, and Florida State. According to 247Sports, Watkins is currently positioned as the 29th-ranked wide receiver and the 23rd-ranked prospect in Georgia. Chiefs players ‘teased' Travis Kelce in locker room for 2016 dating show, Derrick Johnson says
There was a time when Travis Kelce's dating life was the subject of entertainment media, even without Taylor Swift. In 2016, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end had his own dating show, 'Catching Kelce,' on which he tried out dating 50 women, one from each state, in an attempt to find a girlfriend. Advertisement The show lasted one season. Kelce's former teammate, Chiefs all-time tackle leader Derrick Johnson, told Fox News Digital how the locker room reacted to Kelce's dating show. 'He tried not to [talk about the show in the locker room] but we kind of teased him at times, because when you're playing for Andy Reid, there's no distractions. You got to do your job and do it at a high level. So we were aware of the show in the locker room. We'd throw different stuff out there. But when it came to football, it was all business,' Johnson said. Kelce turned 27 in October 2016 when the show aired, overlapping with that year's NFL season. Advertisement The tight end was in the midst of his first 1,000-yard receiving season and second-of-10-straight Pro Bowl seasons. And while the teasing for the show came in the locker room, Johnson says the team's veterans also respected the younger Kelce's abilities when it came to dating. 'He had that taken care of. Good or bad, that's the area that he needs no help in,' Johnson said. 5 Travis Kelce led the dating show 'Catching Kelce' in 2016. YouTube/E! Advertisement 5 The NFL star's dating show only lasted one season. E! 5 Kelce did not date the winner of his show for a long time. E! The show's first and only season ended with Kelce choosing a contestant from Kentucky, Maya Benberry, as his girlfriend. However, by 2017, Kelce was reported to have begun dating his next girlfriend, model Kayla Nicole. Advertisement Kelce and Nicole reportedly dated for five years up until May 2022. Once Kelce began his relationship with Swift in 2023, Johnson took notice. 5 Kelce was 'teased' about his dating show in the locker room, according to Chiefs all-time tackle leader Derrick Johnson. Fox News 5 Kelce started dating Taylor Swift in 2023. AP 'He outkicked his coverage. Taylor's big time,' Johnson said. 'Kelce's big time as well, football-wise, but she is globally. So they're definitely a power couple.' Johnson left the Chiefs for the rival Raiders for his final season in 2018, but his lasting influence preceded the team's historic dynasty and three Super Bowl wins, with five total trips to the big game, from 2019 to February 2024. Johnson was famously a team leader on defense in the early years of Kelce's career. 'None of us knew who he could really be. He probably didn't know it at all either. And once he got going after his second year, third year, I was like, 'This guy is the man!'' Johnson said.
