Serena Williams Set to Executive Produce TV Series Based on Taylor Jenkins Reid's Bestselling Tennis Novel 'Carrie Soto Is Back'
Serena Williams is bringing her tennis talents to the small screen — sort of.
On Monday, April 14, Deadline reported that the tennis pro will serve as an executive producer on the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling novel Carrie Soto Is Back, which the streamer has taken in for development.
The series will be produced in partnership with Williams' production company Nine Two Six, and will bring Reid's 2022 novel about a retired tennis player who returns to the court for one final season to the screen. According to Deadline, Williams' own career will influence the series, too, which will be written by Amanda Kate Shuman.
Williams, 43, confirmed the news in a post to her Instagram Stories as she shared a screenshot of the Deadline article and tagged her production company.

Carrie Soto Is Back tells the story of the titular tennis legend who "makes the monumental decision to come out of retirement and be coached by her father for one last year in an attempt to reclaim her record" after a newcomer is poised to take the title from her.
Carrie's "on-again, off-again romance" with Bowe Huntley spices things up even further as she gets back on the court six years after retiring.
The news makes Carrie Soto Is Back the latest of Reid's bestselling books to be adapted for the screen. Her 2019 Fleetwood Mac-inspired novel Daisy Jones & the Six was adapted into the 2023 smash hit Prime Video series of the same name, starring Riley Keough and Sam Claflin. Additionally, 2017's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is also getting a Netflix movie adaptation.

Ever since the news emerged that Evelyn Hugo would be adapted into a film, stars across Hollywood have voiced their enthusiasm about the project, including Eiza González, who vocalized her interest in the movie just a few weeks ago as she told E! News it would be "such an honor" to be involved.
"I love the book. I love all [Reid's] stuff. I'm a huge fan," Gonzalez, 35, said. She admitted, though, that she doesn't "even know what's happening with that project" and "I don't know if I'll ever get it."
A certain famous former costar of hers can see the vision, though. "Once I was on set and Natalie Portman was like, 'You know, I just can't think of anyone else to do Evelyn Hugo,'" Gonzalez recalled. "I was like, 'Natalie Portman is saying that to me! That's really fire.'"

Ana de Armas has similarly voiced her interest in the film, as she told Entertainment Tonight on April 3 that she "would love" to play the titular character.
"I think one of the things I love about acting and my career is to be able to do everything. You have to try all the things you can. You can't just always eat the same thing," she told the outlet.

Drew Sidora Reveals She Dated Michael B. Jordan: 'People That Know, Know'
Drew Sidora's latest confession about a past relationship has left many surprised, mostly because it has never been mentioned until now. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star recently sat down with Carlos King on his Reality with the King podcast, where she dished on her past relationships with Ty Young and Dennis McKinley — while also dropping a bombshell. The Step Up star revealed that she once dated Michael B. Jordan, long before he became the Hollywood heartthrob and talent he is today. 'I dated Michael B. Jordan,' she casually said. 'I never said that out loud publicly, but people that know, know.' Possibly even throwing a little shade at her past lovers, she added, 'I like biceps, not bellies.' And we all know MBJ has that plus more. Drew went on to reminisce about the days when Jordan was still a rising star, back when he was acting on All My Children in the early 2000s. According to Drew, she even attended the NAACP Awards as his date at that time. 'He asked me to be his date to the NAACP awards,' she recalled, adding that they were also friendly with each other's families. 'My sister Allison … he would come over and she would cook for him … I met his mom, and you know it was great.' Drew, however, isn't the only one who has spilled tea about a past Michael B. Jordan romance. Brie Tiesi made headlines in 2023 when she claimed to have been intimate with the Sinners star. During a dinner scene on Netflix's real estate reality show, Selling Sunset, Brie casually flexed, 'I could do that and I've done that,' when asked if she'd sleep with Jordan. Another realtor responded to her claims with, 'I want to live through that vagina right now.' While the world has witnessed Jordan's publicized romance with Lori Harvey, he's kept his dating life under wraps since their public split. The 38-year-old has since made it clear that he's not rushing into anything. 'My next relationship is gonna happen when it's supposed to happen,' he told Rolling Stone in 2023. ‘Adolescence' Officially Becomes Netflix's No. 2 Most Popular English Series
It's official: Adolescence is now Netflix's No. 2 most popular English-language series of all time. As Deadline predicted last week, the British limited series has comfortably passed Stranger Things 4 to secure the title, amassing 141.2M views since its March 13 debut. There is still about 10 days left in its 91-day premiere window, meaning it'll likely rack up a few more views before its official total is solidified on the Netflix most popular list. More from Deadline 'Baby Reindeer' Legal Battle: Fiona Harvey Pours Scorn On Netflix Claim That "Cheeky Music" Showed Series Was Not Actually A "True Story" Netflix Unveils Premiere Date & First-Look Photo For Rom-Com 'The Wrong Paris' Starring Miranda Cosgrove & Pierson Fodé Netflix Lands Hot Action Comedy Package Teaming Andy Samberg & Jason Momoa It's hard to overstate what a feat Adolescence has achieved here, considering it is a modest, four-episode limited series with no star power attached. The series, about a 13-year-old boy (played by breakout Owen Cooper) accused of stabbing a female classmate to death after being drawn into the online manosphere, managed to generate a powerful word-of-mouth campaign that has allowed it to rival the latest installment of one of Netflix's most popular franchises. As we mentioned last week, Wednesday will retain its crown as the No. 1 English-language series on Netflix with an impressive 252M views in its premiere window. This sets an interesting stage for the arrival of Stranger Things 5, which Netflix revealed over the weekend will premiere in November. It'll be released in three parts, and it's sure to amass a very hefty viewership total by the end of its premiere weekend. When all is said and done, Stranger Things might reclaim the No. 2 spot eventually, not that that makes Adolescence's performance any less impressive. As for the weekly Top 10 from May 26 to June 1, Sirens once again took the top spot and the bragging rights as most-watched title on Netflix with 18.9M views. That's up about 2M views compared to the previous interval, when it debuted to 16.7M. Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders captured 11.9M views in its debut, putting it in second place. Meanwhile, Dept. Q broke out at No. 3 with 6M views. The Four Seasons spent its fifth week on the charts with 2.4M views, while Tyler Perry's She the People and Forever each generated 2.3M. On the film side of things, Fear Street: Prom Queen came in at No. 1 on the English list with 8.5M views. A Spanish crime thriller, A Widow's Game, was No. 1 in film with 15.4M views.
