Ryder Cup legend claims Keegan Bradley plan would be '100 per cent chaos'

European hero Sam Torrance believes dual role is a recipe for disaster and he's heard rumours of a skipper switch Ryder Cup legend Sam Torrance has branded a Keegan Bradley player-captain role as "100 per cent chaos". ‌ And the European hero has revealed he's heard rumours that Jim Furyk is ready to assume the skipper's mantle at Bethpage Black. ‌ Torrance was both a winning player, captain and vice-captain at The Ryder Cup, but the prospect of one man adopting two roles leaves the Scot dumbfounded. ‌ Bradley is facing a tough situation with his excellent form making him a viable member of the team, despite the fact that he was awarded the leadership position 15 months ago. Torrance was asked if his participation within he 12-man side could be a great advantage or a recipe for chaos and responded: 'No, it's 100 per cent chaos! I don't see it as even remotely possible to be a playing captain. 'I 100 per cent think the man should be in the team, but you can't be making decisions halfway around a round while you're playing. 'You have to remember, on Friday and Saturday at 12 noon, both days, you have to have your pairings in for the afternoon fourballs or foursomes, whichever they are. 'You can't possibly do that if you're in a match with five holes to go and you're three up: All right, I'll put myself in, I'm playing. And then you lose four of the last five holes. You'd be thinking: Oh no, what have we done there? ‌ 'No, it's too important a role. He's a fabulous player, I think he's number seven in the world. He should be in the team.' Talking to Lottoland, Torrance added: "I've heard rumours that maybe he'll pass the captaincy on to Jim Furyk. Then he can voice all his opinions in team meetings and everything. But there's just too much pressure, too much going on outside of playing for the captain. You can't do both.' Bradley revealed at The Open last week that Tiger Woods is offering in-depth advice and support after he did the dual role during America's 2019 Presidents Cup triumph over The Internationals at Royal Melbourne. ‌ He said: 'Tiger has been really helpful. He obviously turned this position down and it came to me, so he's been very helpful in this process. Tiger has been really, really great to me over the course of my career. "He does a lot of things for us players that he doesn't do for the media. so he's been really helpful to me my whole life. 'Really kind to me, actually. During this process, he's been one of the most helpful people that I've had. ‌ 'So many times in my career I've leaned on other players to help me go through situations, whether it's endorsements or certain situations or how I feel in tournaments. I have no one to talk to about this. I can't call someone who's done it. 'Tiger did it at the Presidents Cup. I've spoken to him a ton about this. There's a few other guys that have done it in the Presidents Cup. The Ryder Cup is a much different animal. 'I want to obviously wait until the time comes to pick the players and see how I'm doing and, if there's somebody that is playing great that can take my spot, I'll be thrilled for that. "I just want to put the best team on the course at Bethpage. I have to really figure out how this would work, but we have a plan. We have a 'for instance' that could happen. 'That can obviously change during the week. You've got to see how each player is playing. But we're learning as we go just like everybody else.'

Alexander Isak's transfer preference as Liverpool and Saudi Arabia eye Newcastle star

Alexander Isak has told Newcastle that he wishes to leave the club this summer, with both Liverpool and clubs from Saudi Arabia interested in signing him Alexander Isak prefers a transfer to Liverpool this summer over a money-spinning switch to Saudi Arabia. ‌ Newcastle United star Isak has told the Magpies that he would like to leave the club, and has not joined the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia. The Magpies have put his absence down to 'minor thigh injury', but are now dealing with a situation that they had hoped to avoid this summer. ‌ The Times report that Isak has rejected Newcastle's attempts to commit his future to the club, and instead would like to explore his options over a potential move away. The report adds that Isak would be asking for around £300,000 a week in order to stay on Tyneside, with Newcastle only willing to stretch to around £200,000 a week. ‌ Such a contract would make the Swede the highest-paid player in Newcastle's history, with the likes of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali all earning around £150,000 a week. Isak currently earns £120k a week. Liverpool have expressed their interest in signing Isak and would hope to do a deal at around £120m, while Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal would be able to offer staggering wages of around £500,000 a week after tax. Despite that, The Times report adds that Isak still sees his future in top level European football, and he would prioritise a switch to Premier League champions Liverpool even thought the Reds wouldn't be able to offer Saudi-like terms. Liverpool have embarked upon a busy summer in the transfer market, and on Wednesday confirmed the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt for an initial £69m which could rise to £79m. Ekitike had been a Newcastle target, and rejected a switch to Tyneside three times, but LIverpool's move for him doesn't mean that they would not be able to pull off a deal for Isak. On the contrary, the Reds' healthy PSR position makes them one of the few European sides who could afford the 25-year-old. ‌ Arne Slot's side are also expected to raise capital from the sales of several players before the closure of the transfer window, with Luis Diaz being targeted by Bayern Munich, Harvey Elliott wanted by West Ham and Darwin Nunez eyed by Italian, Spanish and Saudi clubs. Hugo Ekitike meets new team-mates in Hong Kong the day after joining Liverpool

The finalities of a six-year contract were announced on Wednesday evening, by which time the French striker was already on a plane to the Far East. He arrived in time to watch the squad's open training at the Kai Tak Stadium in front of a crowd of 27,000 and at the end of the session walked onto the pitch to first greet head coach Arne Slot and then the rest of the players. Meeting the Reds 👋 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) July 24, 2025 During the post-workout walkabout to acknowledge the crowd he spent a couple of minutes in conversation with captain Virgil van Dijk, alongside Andy Robertson. 'When you look at the four older players, the leaders – me, Ali (Alisson Becker), Virg and Mo (Mohamed Salah) – we take it upon ourselves to try to integrate them into the squad as quickly as possible,' Robertson told LFCTV. 'Especially when they are coming from different countries and cultures, it is about getting them up to speed as quickly as possible. 'On the pitch they look after themselves, they have so much quality and that is the pleasing thing. Hugo in Hong Kong 📸 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) July 24, 2025 'The lads already have settled in and Hugo has just come in so we'll have dinner tonight.' Liverpool's first match of their tour is against AC Milan on Saturday but Ekitike's participation remains doubtful at this stage.
