19-year-old hit by car while riding bike across US 24 in Independence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 19-year-old was hit by a car Tuesday night while riding a bike across U.S. 24 Highway in Independence, Missouri.
The Independence Police Department said the crash happened around 7:33 p.m. when the bicyclist was crossing U.S. 24 to get from Dover Drive to Concord Circle on the other side of the highway.

As the bicyclist was crossing U.S. 24, the IPD said the 19-year-old was hit by the driver of a 2007 Ford Focus that was driving west on the highway.
Police said the 19-year-old was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The bicyclist was not wearing any type of safety equipment at the time of the crash, according to police.
The driver of the Ford Focus remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The westbound lanes of U.S. 24 were closed for a little more than an hour on Tuesday night.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some good news, a good Samaritan who saw our story about a carpenter who said his trailer and equipment were stolen in Grandview, is stepping up to help. . Kyle Hudson now has a set of tools and lots of equipment thanks to a generous donation. 'Once it leaves here it's yours,' the good Samaritan said. 'I hope it helps.' The man who donated more than a dozen pieces of equipment wanted to remain anonymous, but felt pulled to help. He heard Hudson's story. Hudson said in May, a thief took off with his trailer, along with all his Milwaukee tools and work equipment inside. It was parked outside his home in Grandview and wasn't insured. He said about $10,000-worth of items — gone. 'The material and the equipment got stolen in the trailer,' Hudson said. A generous viewer saw our FOX4 story and reached out to help Hudson, a total stranger. We were there for the hand off of equipment, including saws, drills, even an air compressor. They were all items he owned. 'They were items that I've had it for several years and I love it.' The man said. 'Sell it or do whatever to get you some Milwaukee stuff again.' 'It means getting back to work sooner than later,' Hudson said, 'With everything here pretty much immediately. And that was pretty far out of sight.' The man donating this equipment related to Hudson's story. He said about ten years ago, a thief stole $25-30,000-worth of work equipment out of his trailer. He told me, that's why he wants to help. Hudson said since the trailer and everything inside was stolen, he's lost several grateful this equipment will help him get back to work. 'There are good people out there, it might not be your next-door neighbor but there are people that are going to help if you speak up. SORRENTO VALLEY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist was seriously hurt in a crash Thursday in Sorrento Valley. The incident occurred around 4:13 p.m. at 4900 Carroll Canyon Road, according to the San Diego Police Department. Authorities say a 62-year-old man riding a black 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 in the westbound No. 2 lane of 4900 Carroll Canyon Road approached a black 2012 Ford Focus from behind at an unsafe speed and hit the back of the vehicle.
