Cyriel Dessers could be set for Rangers exit as ‘European club open transfer talks for striker'

RANGERS have received an official transfer approach from a European club for Cyriel Dessers, it's being claimed. The Nigerian hitman, 30, is set to weigh up his future at Ibrox following the arrival of new boss Russell Martin last week. 2 Cyriel Dessers playing for Nigeria at the end of last month Credit: Getty 2 Cyriel Dessers, Rangers Credit: Willie Vass Dessers scored 29 goals for Rangers last term but has still yet to win over Gers fans with his displays. And the striker could leave the club before the start of next season as at least one club is reportedly on his trail. Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos claims Rangers are in talks with AEK Athens over a potential deal for the striker. AEK have been long-time admirers of the striker who moved to Glasgow in the summer of 2023. We told you last month how the Light Blues were bracing themselves for bids for the striker who still has two years left on his contract. The Greek outfit could face serious competition for his signature, though, as several clubs were understood to be chasing him in January. His agent even suggested the striker had offers from TEN different teams during the winter window, but he decided to stay at Ibrox. Rangers spent around £4.5million to bring the hitman to Glasgow two years ago. Since then he's scored 51 goals for the club and was the Premiership's top scorer last season with 19 goals in the league. But he still manages to split the opinions of Rangers fans, which is something his former manager Philippe Clement believes is unfair. Rangers star Cyriel Dessers responds to questions on Philippe Clement's future as he empathises with raging fans Clement said: 'I think Cyriel gets abuse like nobody else in the club or on the pitch at least. 'But he always was there to work hard, to do everything for the club every day, every training, every game. 'Also, in his career, he never scored as many goals as he did at Rangers. 'In the end he performed really well with his qualities. 'I think he was top scorer at the end of the season. 'Of course fans always want more, but I think Cyriel, if he played in a team that won the league, then he would be for everybody a good player. 'But if you don't win the league then for the fans you are not a good player any more. 'That's life at Rangers.' Viktor Gyokeres rejects £55m transfer after Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea talks

Viktor Gyokeres has rejected an offer worth almost £30m-a-year after holding talks with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. A number of top clubs have expressed interest in signing Gyokeres, who scored an impressive 54 goals for Sporting Lisbon last season. Premier League giants Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all held talks with Gyokeres' representatives as they look to win the race to sign one of the most highly-rated strikers in Europe. But Gyokeres has also attracted interest from further afield and Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal recently make a stunning contract proposal to the 27-year-old. French outlet L'Equipe say Al Hilal 'went on the offensive' for Gyokeres after Victor Osimhen made a U-turn and rejected their advances. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Osimhen was believed to be close to agreeing a deal with Al Hilal but decided to snub the Saudi giants in favour of staying in Europe. The Nigerian spent last season on loan at Galatasaray after being exiled by Napoli boss Antonio Conte. The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been linked with Osimhen, who scored 37 goals last season for Turkish champions Galatasaray. Osimhen's transfer snub led Al Hilal in the director of Gyokeres but the Sweden international has also rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. Al Hilal were ready to offer Gyokeres a contract worth £30m-a-year before bonuses and indicated to Napoli they were willing to pay around £55m to strike a deal. Arsenal It's obvious why a move to the Emirates Stadium might appeal to Gyokeres. Arsenal clinched a third successive second-place finish in the Premier League and they have come so close to winning the title without an out-and-out striker. Gyokeres would be an immediate upgrade on Mikel Arteta's current options, which include ex-Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, the injured Gabriel Jesus and makeshift striker (at least since Arsenal's injury crisis) Mikel Merino. More than just a goalscorer – as 12 assists so far this season shows – Gyokeres would also thrive in an Arsenal team that requires more from their forwards than just a poacher. Players speak glowingly of Arteta and Arsenal would be a stable environment for Gyokeres to continue his development and perhaps be the difference for a team who have aspirations of winning trophies on the regular over the next few years. Manchester United Old Trafford was immediately tipped as Gyokeres' future destination when Ruben Amorim left Sporting Lisbon to replace Erik ten Hag. Gyokeres' incredible first season came under Amorim and the ex-Sporting boss looks set to welcome a new striker to the club this summer after being left underwhelmed by expensive but struggling signings Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. The chance to reunite with Amorim will be tempting for Gyokeres, who would also be joining one of the biggest clubs in the world despite their recent struggles. The problem, of course, is Manchester United – having finished 15th in the Premier League – will be without Champions League football next season. Louis Sealey | Deputy Sports Editor, Metro But Gyokeres rebuffed Al Hilal's tempting offer as, like Osimhen, he sees his long-term future in Europe. Of the Premier League clubs keen on signing Gyokeres, Manchester United appear to be leading the race, not least because of Amorim's relationship with his former Sporting star. Arsenal chief Andrea Berta is a known admirer of Gyokeres but Mikel Arteta is believed to be favouring a move for Benjamin Sesko to bolster the Gunners' attack. More Trending Chelsea have also shown interest in Gyokeres and are expected to sign another forward despite already welcoming Liam Delap to Stamford Bridge in a £30m move from Ipswich Town. Serie A winners Napoli, La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and Italian giants Juventus are all monitoring Gyokeres' situation in Sporting. Staying in Lisbon for another season is an outside possibility despite Gyokeres' uncle recently suggesting his nephew could snub the widespread transfer interest to stay put. Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting Lisbon since being signed from Championship side Coventry City in 2023. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Ian Wright urges Arsenal to sign Premier League flop with 'unfinished business'

Ademola Lookman is on a number of teams' radar this summer after an impressive three-year stint with Atalanta, including Premier League giants Arsenal despite struggling in English football previously Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman this summer, stating that the Nigerian has 'unfinished business' in the Premier League. Lookman came through the Charlton Athletic academy before going on to have unremarkable spells at Everton, Fulham and Leicester as a youngster. Now 27, he has spent the past three seasons with Serie A overachievers Atalanta, where his performances have caught the eye. Lookman has 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances for the Bergamo outfit, including a career-best 20 goals and seven assists this season to help them qualify for the Champions League. ‌ Lookman was famously instrumental in Atalanta's historic Europa League triumph in 2023/24, where he scored a hat-trick to hand Bayer Leverkusen their only defeat of the entire season. His stellar form also led to him winning the African Footballer of the Year award last year. ‌ With Premier League runners up Arsenal understood to be in search of a left winger this summer, Gunners legend Wright named Lookman as a player he would like to see at the Emirates Stadium next season. The former striker was asked about some of his favourite moments of the season on his Wrighty's House podcast earlier this month. He said: 'I'm going to go with Ademola Lookman winning the African Player of the Year in respects of that man's journey. 'I remember him from Charlton, it didn't work out [the] £10million [move] to Everton, then moving all over the place, the journey from loan to this. Then I think that's one of the most devastating performances I've seen in any final with that hat-trick he scored. 'You know, it's just… I can't help but look at his dark moment where it would have been dark for him. You know, especially all those loans, going to another country. 'And you know what? He never had no problem [sic] going wherever he needed to go to find it. And then obviously, like you say, you find your place. Like Scott McTominay's found that, he [Lookman] found with Atalanta. ‌ 'I hope we can buy him, Arsenal. I would love someone like him to come back to the Premier League and say, 'Listen, I have unfinished business here so I am going to help Arsenal win the league.' 'But I just admire his journey and now he's recognised rightly as a top player, unbelievable.' Lookman, who can play as a second striker or as a winger on either flank, was reported in February by Fabrizio Romano to be set to leave Atalanta in the summer transfer window. ‌ The news emerged after the player was publicly slammed as "one of the worst penalty takers I've ever seen" by his own recently departed manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, for missing a penalty in Atalanta's Champions League exit, despite having scored a goal seconds after coming on as a substitute. Sky Germany reported on May 3 that Arsenal have added Lookman to their shortlist of potential attacking signings. ‌ However, Mikel Arteta may have to fend off some competition for the Super Eagles star, as Catalunya Radio last week reported that he has been targeted by Barcelona. It is claimed Hansi Flick admires his profile, believing Lookman to be a great fit for his system. Atalanta are said to value him at more than €40m (£33.69m) but the La Liga champions feel he can be signed for around €30m (£25.26m).
