The Fyre Festival of cricket: Warner among 16 Australians left in lurch as Caymans league collapses
Warner and the other players have been left fuming by the turn of events, which started with individual players refusing to play in games before entire teams began to take strike action.
'It's very disappointing, what's happened,' Warner told this masthead from Miami, where numerous players are in transit home from the failed league.
Angry and disillusioned players in the Cayman Islands have compared the event to the infamous Fyre Festival in 2017, which left 'luxury festival' goers stranded in the Bahamas.
After attempts over several days for players to have their contracts paid, the Australian and global players' associations are now exploring legal action against tournament organisers BMP Sports, which calls itself a 'professional franchise cricket agency' and is based in the UAE.
'It's good that the players took a stance over there because this has happened too much in cricket,' Australian Cricketers' Association chief executive Paul Marsh told this masthead. 'This is a signal that these are the types of actions players will take if they're not paid.

'There have been letters exchanged about the lack of payment and putting organisers on notice, and the players have been communicating consistently with us, and it's got to where it is now off the back of trying every avenue to get the players' contracts honoured, and it's got to a point where it hasn't been resolved, so the players were not going to keep turning up and playing.
'A lot of the contracts will say they need to pay 50 per cent before the tournament starts ... but that's a signal that if you're not getting paid before you get on a plane the players won't play. It's not good for the sport when an event ends up in this position, so there needs to be stronger regulation around these types of things, and the sanctioning process. We will obviously explore legal options as well.'

Micheluzzi leads Aussie bid on Trump Scottish course
South African Richard Sterne has fired a course record five-under par 67 to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire. Leading the Australian challenge on Thursday at the Scottish course, which is owned by the US President, was David Micheluzzi, who shot a one-under 71 to lie four behind. Stern set the early pace at the Old Course after teeing off from the par-five 10th among the morning starters with a birdie on his first hole and another going into the turn, then picking up three more to sign a faultless card. Sterne revealed afterwards that he had had to restock his golf bag with new balls after he had lost plenty while playing in strong winds in practice as Scotland was hit by Storm Floris which battered the Aberdeenshire coastline. But the 43-year-old took advantage of much calmer conditions on Thursday. "The course is very tricky even though the wind is not as bad as it was in the practice round on Tuesday and I played well," said Sterne. "It was about double this wind on Tuesday and I lost about seven or eight balls. I think that actually did me a bit of good," added the world No.1049. Should Stern's opening round still stand as the record at the close of the week, he would earn $US10,000 ($A15,000) through a new initiative on the European tour in partnership with event's sponsors. Norwegian Andreas Halvorsen and South African Thomas Aiken - who set off together in the opening group - missed the chance to join Stern for a share of the lead, as both players bogeyed the last. Louis Albertse, having starting on the back nine, also sits one shot behind his compatriot Sterne at four under in a three-way tie for second place. England's John Parry, Jordan Smith, Matthew Baldwin, Joe Dean and Alex Fitzpatrick - who was briefly in the lead during the afternoon - are all in the mix at three under. Micheluzzi was the only one of the six-strong Aussie contingent to finish under-par on a difficult day for several of them, with Elvis Smylie shooting 73, Jason Scrivener 76, Danny List 78, Brett Coletta 80 and Daniel Gale 83

Hundred excellence: Aussie duo shine with bat and ball
Australia's women cricket stars have continued to shine at the start of English cricket's latest edition of the Hundred, with allrounders Georgia Wareham and Annabel Sutherland the latest to really sparkle. The international duo were in superb form with both bat, ball and in the field for the Australian-powered Northern Superchargers outfit on Thursday, helping the Leeds-based side crush the Welsh Fire by 47 runs at Headingley. Following the brilliant knocks from Grace Harris and Meg Lanning which had kicked off this year's 100-ball-a-side event at Lord's, the well-rested Sutherland smiled: "I think you'll find a lot of us Aussies are pretty keen to be over here playing some cricket." While Wareham took the player of the match 'hero' honours, Sutherland also certainly looked hungry in her first match in four months as, for openers, she cracked a glorious driven boundary before following up with two sixes in her 28 off 20 balls. That was followed by Wareham providing a spectacular finish to the Superchargers innings, cracking 29 off 17 and ending the innings with a spectacular 74-metre six off a full-toss gift from her old Australia teammate Jess Jonassen, who proved particularly expensive, going for 33 off her 20 balls. The only disappointment with the bat for the Yorkshire side's Aussie contingent was when Phoebe Litchfield, who had started with a lovely cover-driven four off her first ball, soon departed off her third ball, caught at backward point Their eventual total of 4-141, though, which had been largely forged through the unbroken late stand of 52 between Wareham and top scorer Hollie Armitage (34no), was to prove comfortably enough once the Aussie allrounders got into action with the ball. Wareham was also particularly sharp in the field to launch the Fire's swift demise as she ran out Sophia Dunkley for just one. The legspinner then tempted Jonassen to hit straight to Sutherland at mid-off for just one as the visitors crumbled to 4-51. Sutherland (1-19 off 20 balls) continued the Welsh woe by flattening Sarah Bryce's off-stump, before Wareham trapped Katie George lbw, finishing her 20-ball stint with the excellent figures of 2-14, including 11 dot balls. To complete her brilliant day, the 26-year-old Victorian took a spectacular running-and-diving catch to get rid of the last batter Katie Levick as the Fire folded on 94 all out.
