TiE Delhi-NCR's India Internet Day 2025 To Decode India's $1 Trillion Digital Future
The 14th edition of iDay is slated for 2nd May 2025, at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram, with a focused agenda: to map India's path to a projected $1 trillion digital economy by 2030. This power-packed event brings together policymakers, tech leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to foster strategic dialogues that drive India's digital transformation.
India's digital economy is expanding at nearly twice the pace of its overall GDP growth and is projected to contribute around 20% to the national GDP by 2029. The country's internet user base is expected to cross 900 million by 2025, driven largely by rural adoption. This growth is being fuelled by increasing smartphone penetration, cheaper data plans, and a surge in regional content consumption—creating a fertile environment for startups, digital platforms, and next-gen tech ventures to scale rapidly.
At India Internet Day 2025, this digital momentum forms the backdrop for critical conversations on how India can not only participate in but also lead the global tech narrative. 'India Internet Day has always been more than just a conference—it's a platform where ideas turn into action. We're especially excited about this year's theme, 'India 2030: From Digital Economy to Tech Superpower'. It captures the ambition and momentum of India's innovation ecosystem as we look ahead to a tech-driven future,' said Upasana Sharma, Executive Director, TiE Delhi-NCR.
Building on that vision, she added, 'This year, we're thrilled to welcome a trailblazing lineup of speakers, thought leaders, and visionaries from across sectors—and with almost 50 top investors in the room, ready to hear bold pitches and disruptive ideas, iDay 2025 promises to be a launchpad for the next wave of breakout ventures. This is where India's next big leap begins.'

Noida: Old vehicle owners welcome Supreme Court intervention on ELVs
A day after the Supreme Court of India ordered that no coercive action be taken against the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) owners, the residents of Noida on Wednesday expressed relief saying that the ban should be based on the fitness and emission level of the vehicle rather than its age. To be sure, the ELV bans were first mandated by the National Green Tribunal in 2015 and reinforced by the Supreme Court in 2018 to tackle the NCR's air pollution crisis. (Raj K Raj/HT Photos) According to the Noida transport department data, there are nearly 1 million registered vehicles, including around 40,000 diesel vehicles over 10 years old and 168,000 petrol vehicles older than 15 years in the Gautam Budh Nagar district. Traffic police said 160 ELVs were seized from January to August in Gautam Budh Nagar. Piyush Gupta, who owns a 2005 Tata Indica, is a resident of Noida's Sector 16, said, 'I have read the Supreme Court judgment for ELVs, and for the time being, it is a big relief for me. Recently, when ELVs were banned on the road, I parked my car at home and switched completely to another vehicle.' Gupta's Indica, which was deregistered from Rajasthan and registered again in Noida, is about to expire this October. As the apex court ordered no action for four weeks, he is exploring other options to sell or use the vehicle. 'In my opinion, if any vehicle passes the fitness test, there should be no ban, because if someone is keeping his/her vehicle in good condition, why should it be banned?' He further argued that for the last several years, the technology in cars has advanced as compared to old 20- to 30-year-old vehicles. Despite all additional changes and improvements, the ban is unjustified. To be sure, the ELV bans were first mandated by the National Green Tribunal in 2015 and reinforced by the Supreme Court in 2018 to tackle the NCR's air pollution crisis. Earlier this year, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced that the ELV ban in the National Capital would take effect from July 1, with vehicles identified via Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at fuel stations being denied fuel. The same rule was to be implemented in five NCR districts from November 1 and across the rest of NCR from April 1, 2026. ELV owners further stressed that the COVID lockdown period and the emission levels caused by vehicles should also be considered. 'The temporary relief for four weeks is more for people like us who are confused between selling vehicles or buying a new one,' said Vinay Kumar, a resident of Noida, Sector 55, who owns the Mahindra Scorpio 2010 model. A senior traffic police officer, on condition of anonymity, said, 'We are analysing the Apex Court's order on ELVs. As of now, we are only issuing challans against the ELVs in the district.' On Monday, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Bhushan R. Gavai and Justices K. Vinod Chandran and N.V. Anjaria ordered that no coercive action be taken against ELV owners. The court also issued a notice to the Delhi government and listed the matter for hearing after four weeks.

Odisha CM launches marine biotech research centre to develop coastal areas
Bhubaneswar, Aug 12 (PTI) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday launched the Odisha Marine Biotechnology Research and Innovation Corridor (OMBRIC), an initiative to contribute to the field of environmental protection, science-based tourism, investment and employment of people in coastal areas. On the occasion, an MoU was signed between Odisha's Science & Technology Department and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Ministry of Earth Sciences, for R&D collaboration. Six higher education institutions, including IIT Bhubaneswar, also signed MoUs with the Odisha Government to provide R&D support for the initiative. 'This unique platform will become a beacon of hope for the scientific community and innovation, not only for Odisha, but for the entire nation and the world," the chief minister said, adding that it can transform the state's blue economy and contribute significantly to the nation's economic growth. Stating that Odisha is taking a 'bold and visionary step forward", Majhi said the initiative was launched at a time when the world is 'looking towards the oceans for solutions to some of the most pressing challenges, ranging from sustainable food systems to climate resilience". The CM said the initiative is 'designed not just as a research programme, but as a platform where young entrepreneurs of Odisha can build marine biotech startups grounded in local resources and global standards". 'From gene discovery to bioactive molecules, from bioremediation to nutraceuticals, this initiative covers the entire pipeline of marine biotechnology innovation, culminating in job creation, environmental sustainability, and economic growth," he said. The chief minister asserted that Odisha is no longer just a coastal state; it now seeks to be a coastal innovator. 'We are investing in nature-based solutions and harnessing our biodiversity not by exploiting it, but by preserving, understanding, and responsibly utilising it," he said. Taking note of the strength of academic and research institutes of Odisha, the chief minister said the state has initiated an alliance of knowledge, research, and innovation to identify threats to coasts with the help of biotechnology. Science and Technology Minister KC Patra said that Odisha has huge potential in marine biotechnology and will make all efforts to explore this sector to promote growth. OMBRIC is a blueprint for a prosperous future, he said. Recognising the state's vast coastline, packed with unexplored rich marine bio-resources, Odisha Science & Technology Department has conceptualised OMBRIC as a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming and positioning the state into a global leader in marine biotechnology and Blue Economy development in future, an official note said. Based on their scientific expertise and regional relevance, the state government has roped in six premier institutes as hubs of OMBRIC. These institutions will lead various components of the initiative with specific objectives aligned with their areas of expertise and the needs of the state, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja noted. The six institutes are IIT Bhubaneswar, NIT Rourkela, IISER Berhampur, ILS Bhubaneswar, Berhampur University and Fakir Mohan University, Balasore.
