More than 200 runners race in 26.TRUE, the ‘real Boston Marathon'

While the Boston Marathon requires runners to submit qualifying times, 26.TRUE reserved one hundred spots this year for first-time marathoners.

'The event allows us to think outside of the box and really rethink and change the narrative, change the history about who deserves to be running,' Lash said.
More than 50 people lined up on Dale Street along Malcolm X Park, ringing cowbells and cheering for runners as dancehall music boomed from a Red Bull-branded truck.
'Pain is temporary, Strava glory is forever,' one supporter's sign read.
Chloe and Peter Hinrichs, who work respectively as an accountant and a landscape designer, traveled from out-of-state to watch their son race. The couple said they were happy to join a supportive environment cheering on the runners along a memorable course.
'It just highlights all the great neighborhoods of Boston,' Peter Hinrichs said. 'In the Boston Marathon, they don't really run that much in Boston.'

26.TRUE originated during the COVID-19 pandemic, when
''Let's use this as an excuse and an opportunity to run through the streets of our neighborhoods and really spotlight the city of Boston in a way that the namesake marathon, the Boston Marathon, does not do,'' Lash recalled thinking.
PIONEERS intended 26.TRUE to be a one-time event, but participants quickly expressed interest in running the course again the following year, Lash said.

'Those three civil rights leaders and activists are huge motivators to us,' Lash said.
Organizers wanted to 'encourage the runners to really soak up and understand what the meaning of their impacts means for us,' she added.

Pickleball facilities pop up across East Tennessee as participation booms
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Dozens of new pickleball facilities are opening here in East Tennessee as the sport is taking the country by storm. Second Harvest Food Bank is hosting a tournament at the Pavilion of Pickleball in West Knoxville at the Cedar Bluff Racquet Club raising money for the food bank. It's one of the fastest growing sports in the country. That's no different here in East Tennessee as more and more people start picking up the sport. Elize Kikkert and Elizabeth Bentley-Shelton both work at the Pavilion of Pickleball that opened nearly five years ago. 'People really flock to this because it was an activity that they could do. For a while we had a lot of members because we were the only indoor facility in Knoxville,' said Pavilion of Pickleball General Manager Elize Kikkert. 'Now, because we have more [places to play], it's spread out a little bit more because people from Maryville don't have to drive a long way here so they go to other places that are closer to them.' The sport once tabbed as one for the older generation has turned younger in recent years leading to increased competition. 'It mixes around, you know, old people play with the young people,' Kikkert said. 'I think it's changed the game of Pickleball a little bit though because the younger people tend to hit it a lot harder, so I think it changed the dynamics of the game a little bit. Overall, it's very fun to see.' Pickleball also proves that age is just a number when it comes to staying active and having fun. 'During my play, we've got a homeschool group and the Summer Cathleagues doing their summer sports camp here,' Assistant General Manager Elizabeth Bentley-Shelton said. 'When I first started working for the Knoxville City Parks and Rec, one lady that came and played was 93-years-old and I played with her. Another man was 92 and he was amazing, both of them. Like Elize said, it's from little to big.' 'It always just feels like home': Hendon Hooker draws inspiration from youth football camp in Knoxville When POP first opened during Covid, it was a way for people to get out and socialize while getting exercise as well. On the court, strangers become friends and the more people you play with the bigger the community will grow. 'These are people at first you never knew and now big buddies with them. My contact list on my phone that says pickleball, pickleball, pickleball is unreal,' Bentley-Shelton said. 'It's crazy and everybody likes everybody, we're all friendly that's the good thing.' The Pavilion of Pickleball may have been the first indoor facility to open in Knoxville, but several others have followed suit. Dave Chappelle Reflects On 2016 Trump ‘SNL' Speech
Source: Arturo Holmes / Getty For comedian Dave Chappelle, the opening monologue he gave as the host of Saturday Night Live after the 2016 presidential election isn't something he regrets. He had the chance to reflect on it during a conversation with comedian Mo Amer for the Actors on Actors series for Variety. 'I haven't watched it in a while, but I remember it fondly,' Chappelle said at the 27-minute mark of the conversation, which was shared Wednesday (June 4) after Amer asked him about his perspective on it from back then to now. The monologue went viral, as Chappelle declared that 'an internet troll' had won the White House, also pointing out his history of sexual assault. He would then segue into how he felt after former President Barack Obama won in 2008. 'And it made me very happy about the prospects of our country,' he said then. 'So, in that spirit, I'm wishing Donald Trump luck. And I'm going to give him a chance. And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too.''Oh, I remember that part,' Chappelle said. 'You know what? I look at it like a photograph. That's what it felt like in that moment. Now, if it ages well or not, I don't get mad if I look at a picture because it's not today. That's what it was at that time.' He continued, 'You might look at an old set and cringe, but you could just cringe because of how you were at that time. And in that sense, I'm fine with it.' Chappelle's conversation with Amer is one of the rare moments he's opened up for media – he has declined direct interviews in the wake of brushback from jokes he made against the transgender community in his 2021 Netflix special The Closer . 36 Wildly Entitled People From This Month
This person thought closing times were just suggestions. This parent had a wildly audacious request. This terrible, terrible roommate deserved to be evicted. This person decided the rules didn't apply to them. The person blocked another's concert view so they could get a grainy video they're probably never going to watch. This person had the audacity to complain when they were the one ruining the movie for everyone else. This neighbor really should've hired a sitter. This neighbor thought they were entitled to one of the guest spots at all times. This entitled coworker really should've planned better. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. No one wants to hear your crappy music! This driver thought no one would notice if they took the cherry for themselves. It's perfectly valid to warn an airline ahead of time about severe allergies, but I have a feeling this person is exaggerating or lying about the coffee smell thing, and the water bottle part reeks of entitlement (just bring your own large bottle??). airplane fuel on an airplane? This person tried taking advantage of a friend. As did this person. This parent clearly only cared if they were getting their flowers. This ungrateful person couldn't just appreciate that they were getting something for free. This person expected a tour to be on her schedule instead of the other way around. I commiserate with this pregnant person needing the toilet, but really, you expect a business to break COVID rules just for you? She also clearly didn't need to go that badly, as she made it up the road. This person proved, once again, that people act a fool on flights. This selfish person blocked a whole garage. This relative was straight up delulu. This parent thought she was entitled to her kid's tea. This person thought someone might like to pamper her for free. "You've had your turn" is not the way the world works. This person didn't give a damn about their neighbors' view. Maybe this neighbor should "stop being so selfish." This parent claimed it was "discrimination" not to allow kids in the pool for a few hours. This person clearly didn't understand what "reserved" means. Same with this person. This person wrote the rule AFTER breaking it themselves. This entitled neighbor wanted her lawn mowed for free. This dog owner was a shame to dog owners everywhere. This ungrateful sitter signed up for a bunch of paid channels, as if the cash and food money weren't enough. These people didn't even bother looking up how to dispose of furniture in their town/city. This entitled passenger should've booked three seats if she wanted all three to herself. And finally, alllll these people should be ashamed of themselves.
