Anbumani: Chennai's 2nd airport can be in Thiruporur instead of Parandur

on Sunday said that the second airport for Chennai can be established in Thiruporur instead of Parandur.
At a public meeting, during his third day of 'Urimai Meetpu Payanam', in Kanchipuram assembly segment, Anbumani said an airport at Thiruporur will not affect the people unlike Parandur where farmers have to be relocated.
"There are 10,000 acres of salt pans near Thiruporur. If the airport is established in Thiruporur, none will be affected," Anbumani said. He said the PMK believed that Chennai needs development and a second airport.
But the facility should not be established at the cost of farmers and farmlands, he said.

President Murmu's reference challenges this verdict, raising questions on whether Governors are bound by ministerial advice and if their discretion under Article 200 is subject to judicial review. With Kerala now accusing the reference of being a "backdoor attempt" to undo settled law, the Supreme Court's upcoming decision could have far-reaching implications on Centre-state relations and the powers of constitutional authorities. The floor leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc on Monday held a meeting to discuss the strategy for the second week of the monsoon session and the issues that need to be raised. This meeting comes as the Lok Sabha gears up for a 16-hour-long discussion on Operation Sindoor today. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has appealed to the opposition not to use language reminiscent of Pakistan. He said that there was a need to be mindful and maintain the dignity of the Indian armed forces. "I request the opposition, especially the Congress, not to do anything to harm India's interests and not speak Pakistan's language. We have to be mindful. We have to maintain the dignity of the Indian armed forces," Rijiju told ANI. The Union Minister stated that the opposition, including the Congress, should refrain from making any statements that could harm national interests. "The Congress and the Opposition should not say anything that could harm the national interests. Whatever they speak against India is used by the Pakistanis and India's enemies outside," Rijiju said, adding, "It was the wish of the people of India that the PM decided to launch Operation Sindoor through the Indian Army. Today, the Lok Sabha will take up the discussion on the Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack." Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to address the Lok Sabha at around noon. AP Tobacco farmers seek relief, MSP guarantee; Minister Dola assures action
ONGOLE: Representatives of the AP Rythu Sangham and FCV tobacco farmers from Prakasam district met Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy on Sunday, seeking fair prices for their produce. The farmers submitted a memorandum at the minister's camp office and the MP's residence. Both leaders assured the farmers that they would take up the issue with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and the Union government. Farmers said they are reeling under financial pressure due to low rainfall, reduced production, and low-grade crop quality. With an average market price of Rs 200 per kg, they estimate losses of Rs 5–6 lakh per barn. They urged both governments to release Rs 1,000 crore as immediate relief to ensure a minimum support price of Rs 200 per kg for low-grade stocks. They also requested the removal of penalties for additional tobacco production and called for the purchase of excess stock even after the stipulated quota is met. Dola said that he had directed the Tobacco Board not to collect penalties. The issue would be discussed with the Chief Minister and Cabinet for a suitable resolution, he added. Rythu Sangham district leaders Pamidi Venkata Rao, Jajjuru Jayanthi Babu, Abburi Venkateswarlu, and others were present.
