Khelo India Beach Games 2025: Golden day for hosts Daman and Diu on Day 1 of pencak silat competition
Diu (Daman and Diu) [India], May 20 (ANI): Hosts Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu had a golden start on Day 2 of the first Khelo India Beach Games in Diu on Tuesday. The first golds of the Games were decided in pencak silat competition, with Daman and Diu winning two of the first three.
Pencak silat is a form of Indonesian martial art and it was great see a Union Territory hemmed by the Arabian Sea excelling in the open competition at these Games. Prasanna Narendra Bendre of Daman & Diu won the gold in the senior men's tunggal (artistic) event while Kirtana Manojkumar Acharya of the home team struck gold in the senior female category, as per the SAI Media press release.
A third gold was decided in the pencak silat competition in the morning session at the Ghoghla Beach. In a solo event (artistic), Punjab's Aaryan won gold ahead of Odisha's Sohil Gurung. Pencak silat is an extremely technical sport with points awarded on artistic forms and creativity.
Bendre is the most accomplished player in the region with a silver and two bronze to his name at international events, no less. He won the silver in the 2022 Asian championship in Jammu and Kashmir, while his two bronze came in the 2024 Asian championship in Dubai and the 2024 world championship in Abu Dhabi.
Bendre really hopes these Khelo India Beach Games go a long way towards promoting tourism in Diu.
'That will be good for us. A better economy will help all sports and the infrastructure,' he said as quoted by the SAI Media press release.
The beach soccer competition started on Monday, and there was a spate of one-sided group matches in both men's and women's competitions. Lakshadweep recorded one of the biggest wins when their men thrashed Gujarat 19-1. Odisha women blanked Madhya Pradesh 18-0.
In these Games ending May 24, there are six - soccer, volleyball, kabaddi, open swimming, sepak takraw and pencak silat -- medal sports and two non-medal sports (mallakhamb and tug-of-war).

However, after 18 overs, skipper Rajat Patidar has lifted the title for RCB, with their superstar batter Virat Kohli getting his first-ever IPL trophy after 18 years with the team. Shashank's brilliance (61* in 30 balls, with three fours and six sixes) proved inadequate for PBKS as the flush of shots came too late for the team. Shashank hit three sixes in the final over, not giving up the fight till the last. Chasing a challenging 191, PBKS started off well with the opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh taking down Bhuvneshwar Kumar with a four and six, taking 13 runs in over one. Priyansh tried to dominate Josh Hazlewood with two fours, but a stunning catch from Phil Salt near the ropes took Priyansh back to the pavillion for 24 in 19 balls, with four boundaries. PBKS was 43/1 in five overs. At the end of six overs, PBKS was 52/1, with Prabhsimran (15*) and Josh Inglis (8*) unbeaten. Virat adds another record to his tally, is player with most fours in IPL

While the title clash was not very special for Virat with the bat, as he struggled to get his full rhythm during a knock of 43 in 35 balls, with three fours at a strike rate of just over 122, he still managed to get a record to his name. Now in 267 matches, Virat has scored 771 fours, outdoing former opener Shikhar Dhawan (768). During this season, he ended his campaign with 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75, with a strike rate of 144.71, with eight fifties. His best score this season is 73*. Also, he has the most runs by a single player against an opponent in the history of IPL, with 1,159 runs against PBKS at an average of 36.21 in 36 matches and innings and a strike rate of 132.60.
