McGhee Tyson to temporarily close main entrance amid high traffic
ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — To manage heavy traffic, McGhee Tyson Airport plans to close the main entrance off Alcoa Highway for several nights in March.
The airport staff anticipate higher than normal traffic from March 6 through the 24, so they are implementing a plan to prevent vehicles from backing up onto Alcoa Highway, which could cause safety issues.

The main airport entrance off Alcoa Highway (US 129 South) is scheduled to close from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the following nights:
Thursday, March 6 to Monday the 10
Thursday, March 13 to Monday the 17
Thursday, March 20 to Monday the 24
During these nights, visitors will be redirected to the Hunt Road Exit. Signs will guide drivers to the terminal building.

The airport posted that traffic coming from US 129 North won't be impacted, with the exit process remaining the same.
Additionally, the airport will relocate the entrance to the parking garage starting the week of March 10. However, the new entrance will be close to the old one, so drivers will not need to change route. Staff will post signs marking the new entrance.
Due to the expected high traffic, the airport recommended people arrive earlier than usual.

Whataburger to open Knoxville location on Cumberland Avenue
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Whataburger is one step closer to opening in East Tennessee, as a business license was spotted on a storefront on Cumberland Avenue in Knoxville. The City of Knoxville business license, issued on March 19, placed the new business at 1830 Cumberland Avenue. Allegiant adding new nonstop flights from Florida. Here's where, when and which cost $49
Allegiant Air is bringing nonstop flights to some new places with five new routes announced for the fall. Two of them connect to Florida. "This expansion caters to passengers and communities we feel have been overlooked by other carriers," said Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer in a release. "Allegiant's unique business model, connecting small-to-medium sized cities to vacation destinations, creates accessible travel options not otherwise available in what we believe are underserved markets. We know travelers enjoy the convenience of nonstop flights departing from their neighborhood airport." A flight from Fort Lauderdale to South Bend, Indiana, begins August 29, with fares starting at $59, the company said. Another flies between Key West and Knoxville, Tennessee starting Oct. 3, with fares starting at $49. Other flights include Knoxville-Memphis, and Gulf Shores, Alabama to Appleton, Wisconsin and Des Moines, Iowa. Allegiant offers a network of only nonstop, point-to-point flights and operates nearly half of its total capacity in Florida. The Las Vegas-based airline launched eight new routes from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, seven flights to St. Pete-Clearwater and flights to Orlando-Sanford in November 2024, among others, as part of a major national expansion.
