Qatar's KAHRAMAA awards $851mln contracts to expand power infrastructure
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has signed contracts valued at approximately 3.1 billion Qatari riyals ($851 million) to boost the country's electricity infrastructure, state-owned Qatar News Agency (QNA) said on Monday.
The four contracts were awarded to Qatar firms Elsewedy Cables Qatar Company, Voltage Engineering and Best and Betash Consortium from Turkey and South Korea's Taihan Cable & Solution.
The scope of work includes the construction of seven high-voltage substations and the installation of 212 kilometres of underground cables and overhead transmission lines. The contracts also cover upgrades to existing substations to increase their capacity.
Qatari firms account for 58.4 percent of the total contract value, in line with KAHRAMAA's policy of encouraging Qatari companies and in accordance with the state's strategies to promote the private sector, the QNA report concluded.

Nearly 95 new projects were launched in Dubai in the first quarter of 2025, which are expected to add 29,000 residential units to the market, according to a report by real estate consultancy firm Cavendish Maxwell. Approximately 9,300 residential units were completed in the first quarter of 2025, with apartments accounting for 79 percent of the total and the remainder comprising villas and townhouses, the report said. This marks the second-highest quarterly completion volume in the past two years, surpassed only by the fourth quarter of 2023. Dubai's housing supply is expected to see substantial growth, with nearly 300,000 units projected to enter the market by 2028. A significant portion of this new supply is anticipated in 2026 and 2027, indicating a potential surge in completions during those years, the report said. Over the rest of 2025, 73,000 units are forecast for delivery. However, actual completions may be impacted by shifting market dynamics, evolving buyer preferences, and potential delays in construction timelines. 'Given these factors, it will be crucial to observe how developers adjust their strategies to manage this increased supply, respond to market demand, and ensure timely delivery,' the consultancy stated. Qatar awarded projects worth $1.7bln in Q1
Qatar awarded projects with a combined value of around 6.4 billion Qatari riyals ($1.7 billion) in the first quarter of 2025, the Finance Ministry has reported. Contracts awarded to foreign companies were valued at nearly QAR1.5 billion ($411 million), the Ministry said on 'X' platform this week. The report showed there was a 50 percent increase in the value of contracts awarded to foreign firms and a 36.8 percent decline in those awarded to local companies. The value of total contracts awarded in the first quarter of this year slumped by nearly 25.5 percent year-on year, the Ministry said.
