Rod Wave's attorneys deny charges, claim rapper was victim of burglary
Rapper Rod Wave (real name Rodarius Marcell Green) was arrested in Georgia on May 20 on 14 criminal charges, including aggravated assault, illegal firearm possession, and property damage, according to Fulton County Jail records.
He was released the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.
The charges stem from an alleged April 21 altercation at Wave's residence. Police claim that after a burglary at the property, Wave and his associates engaged in a verbal dispute that escalated into gunfire.
A semiautomatic pistol was allegedly fired 14 times—with 11 bullets striking an associate's Mercedes G Wagon, one hitting Wave's own Rolls-Royce, another piercing his home's wall, and one round unaccounted for, TMZ reported.
Wave's legal team strongly disputes the charges. Attorneys Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg told Pitchfork, 'There is no truth to these charges. Rod Green was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes. How he was even charged is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably.'
This marks Wave's third high-profile arrest in recent years. In April 2024, he was detained in Florida for illegal weapon possession but was later released after authorities admitted the arrest was based on 'inaccurate information,' according to Billboard. In 2022, he faced a felony battery charge for allegedly choking his ex-girlfriend, though the case was later dropped. His attorney at the time, Bradford M. Cohen, called the incident a 'misunderstanding.'
Wave, known for hits like Sinners, has not publicly addressed the latest charges.
