Joel Klatt Gushes Over Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith
FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt praises Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith, calling him possibly the best player he's seen since starting his college football coverage and predicting a legendary career ahead. FOX Sports analyst and commentator Joel Klatt has set sky-high expectations for Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Appearing on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Klatt couldn't say enough about the Buckeyes' standout, praising his talent and potential with glowing enthusiasm. 'The quarterback is not going to be asked to be Superman for Ohio State,' Klatt said. They should be able to run it well, their defense should be solid, and they've got, I think, the best wide receiver that I've seen in college football since I've been covering college football in Jeremiah Smith. He might be the best player I've seen since I started covering college football. 'There's only two players that I felt like, as their true freshman year, they should be on an NFL field: Adrian Peterson and Jeremiah Smith… Smith is ridiculous. I think Jeremiah Smith — I mean, this is probably too much hype — Jeremiah Smith, if he just keeps working hard and developing, I think he has a chance to be a top five receiver in the history of football.' Joel Klatt's praise for Jeremiah Smith is nothing short of extraordinary, but after the freshman season Smith just had, it might not be so far off the mark. In his first year with the Buckeyes, Smith rewrote the record books. He set a new FBS freshman receiving record with 1,315 yards, finishing the season with 76 receptions, 15 receiving touchdowns, and even added a rushing score. Despite a quiet game against Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinal, where he managed just one catch for three yards, Smith still left a major impact on the postseason. Across four playoff games, he totaled 19 catches for 381 yards and five touchdowns. He found the end zone twice in both the Rose Bowl against Oregon and in the matchup against Tennessee. His performance in the Rose Bowl was especially electric, recording 7 receptions for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns. For his outstanding debut season, Smith was named Big Ten Receiver of the Year and earned First-Team All-American honors. With a résumé like that already in hand, Klatt's high expectations suddenly seem very realistic. As of today, Jeremiah Smith holds the fourth-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy, behind only three quarterbacks: Texas' Arch Manning, LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, and Clemson's Cade Klubnik. If Smith has already positioned himself among college football's elite after just one year, his rise is only beginning. All eyes will be on him when he returns to the field for his sophomore season opener as Ohio State faces Texas on August 30 at noon ET.

Aaron Rodgers Would Play in Steelers' Preseason Opener: 'Whatever Mike Wants'
National Football League Aaron Rodgers Would Play in Steelers' Preseason Opener: 'Whatever Mike Wants' Published Aug. 6, 2025 2:14 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Aaron Rodgers is open to showcasing how far the new-look Pittsburgh Steelers offense has come in Saturday's preseason opener against Jacksonville... if coach Mike Tomlin asks. "It's an interesting conversation," the veteran quarterback said Wednesday. "I think Mike and I have that at some point. I don't think it's in the plan for me to play this week, but whatever Mike wants to do, I'm fully on board." The 41-year-old last appeared in an exhibition game two years ago during his first season with the New York Jets. Before that, the NFL's oldest active player hadn't run onto the field for a game that didn't count since 2018. The short-term loss of rookie quarterback Will Howard might complicate things. The former Ohio State star is dealing with a hand injury and won't be available, leaving Rodgers, veteran Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson to split the snaps against the Jaguars. ADVERTISEMENT Howard, whom Rodgers has actively taken under his wing since signing a one-year deal with the Steelers in early June, smacked his hand against a helmet in practice on Tuesday. "It (stinks) for him for sure ... because he's had such a nice camp as a young player and then watching him in minicamp and just seeing his, you know, command of the offense," Rodgers said. "But this year is a growth year for him. It's a year to watch and learn and obviously better himself. This (should) just be a minor setback for him." After being regularly dominated during the opening 10 or so practices at Saint Vincent College, Rodgers thinks he's seen some progress in recent days as he grows more comfortable in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's system. The two spent several hours on Tuesday talking about offensive philosophy beyond mere Xs and Os, and Rodgers said Smith wants the offense to be a collaborative process. "He's not a rigid guy at all, you know?" Rodgers said. "So ... ideas that I have or ideas that some of the receivers are giving to me to give to him, everything is taken into consideration, which I really appreciate." ESPN's Standalone Streaming Service and App to Launch Aug. 21
Just in time for the NFL and college football seasons, ESPN will launch its flagship streaming service and app Aug. 21. The service, which will simply be called ESPN, will cost $30 as a standalone service but will be $36 per month if bundled with Disney+ and Hulu. The NFL season kicks off Thursday Sept. 4, and the first set of college games are scheduled for Aug. 23. Subscribers will get access to all of ESPN's live games for all sports and programming from ESPN on ABC, ESPN2 and the SEC Network. On Wednesday, the Disney-owned ESPN announced that it would be acquiring the NFL Network, which includes the popular RedZone Channel and NFL Fantasy. Per the agreement, ESPN will air three additional NFL games per season on NFL Network. ESPN has also struck a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for the US rights to show WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam, beginning in 2026. Disney CEO Bob Iger said ESPN's "full suite of networks and services" will be available. "The enhanced ESPN app will be a sports fan's dream with key new features planned for launch, such as multi view, enhanced personalization, integration of stats, bedding, fantasy sports and commerce and a personalized Sports Center," he said. The service was originally slated to launch this fall, but Disney has brought the date forward -- possibly to keep up with the competition. Fox Sports' streaming service, called Fox One, will also begin Aug. 21. ESPN and Fox One will join an ever-expanding menu of sports streaming services available for all fans' tastes. Mike Proulx, VP Research Director at Forrester, said the ESPN streaming service announcement will give Disney a "notable lift in revenue" after being a tad below expectations in their report Tuesday. "Disney is racing full force to sign sports rights with the company's NFL and WWE announcements," Proulx said. "This is yet another signal that the latest battle in the streaming war is all about live sports programming."
