Lecce's Serie A match at Atalanta postponed following death of physio
ROME (AP) — Relegation-threatened Lecce's Serie A match at Atalanta on Friday was postponed to Sunday following the death of the club's physical therapist, the Italian league announced.
Graziano Fiorita, the physio, worked with Lecce for more than 20 years.
Several matches this week were already rescheduled due to the death of Pope Francis. No games will be played on Saturday out of respect for the pope's funeral.
Lecce is one point above the drop zone with five rounds remaining.
Atalanta is third and on course to qualify for the Champions League.

'Dream come true' for Alexander-Arnold as he is introduced by Real Madrid
MADRID (AP) — Trent Alexander-Arnold was officially introduced by Real Madrid on Thursday, saying he was fulfilling his dream to play for the Spanish powerhouse. The 26-year-old England back was the latest reinforcement on defense for Madrid after a season in which the back line struggled following injuries. Madrid moved forward with signing Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool — for a reported fee of up to 10 million euros ($11.5 million) — to get him on June 1 instead of for free at the end of the month. That allowed Madrid to count on the defender to play for Xabi Alonso's team at the Club World Cup in the United States. Madrid opens its Club World Cup group-stage campaign against Saudi club Al-Hilal next Wednesday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Alexander-Arnold was accompanied by his parents and relatives in the capital. After signing the contract alongside Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, he was introduced with a video of his highlights and then spoke briefly, in Spanish. 'Thank you for this opportunity,' he said. 'To sign with a club like Real Madrid doesn't happen very often. It's a dream come true. I'm very happy and proud to be here. I'm very excited to show my game to Madrid fans but I'm aware that it's a great responsibility to play for Real Madrid. I'm ready to give my all for this team and for the fans.' Madrid also this week introduced central defender Dean Huijsen. Alexander-Arnold, who will wear the No. 12 jersey, arrived on a six-year contract through June 2031. He will join fellow England international Jude Bellingham. Alexander-Arnold won nine titles with Liverpool, including one Champions League and two Premier Leagues. 'We welcome a player who has won everything and who marked an era in a prestigious club such as Liverpool,' Pérez said. 'You could have continued playing in any other club but you chose to continue your career with our club and we will never forget that.' Madrid and the other 31 teams playing in the Club World Cup are allowed to make early signings in FIFA-approved special transfer windows from June 1-10 and June 27-July 3. Alexander-Arnold had already announced he was leaving his boyhood club with Madrid the expected destination. He made 354 appearances for Liverpool and scored 23 goals. By its own high standards, Madrid had a disappointing season, finishing runner-up to rival Barcelona in La Liga and being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League despite having signed France star Kylian Mbappé last summer. ___

Wimbledon announces record $73M prize fund and $4M for singles champions
LONDON (AP) — Wimbledon's prize money has risen to a record 53.5 million pounds (about $73 million) and the singles champions will each earn three million pounds ($4 million), All England Club officials announced on Thursday. The total amount is 3.5 million pounds ($6.8 million) more than last year, an increase of 7% — and exactly twice the pot handed out to competitors at the grass-court Grand Slam 10 years ago. 'We're immensely proud of the fact that if you look back 10 years, you can see the increase over that period and 7% this year,' All England chair Deborah Jevans said. 'And we have listened to the players, we have engaged with the players.' The 2025 winners' checks represent an 11.1% jump on last year's prizes for the men's and women's singles champions and comes amid growing player demands for a bigger share of grand slam profits. Players who lose in the first round of singles will get 66,000 pounds, up 10% year on year. 'The focus on just the prize money at four events, the Grand Slams, does not get to the heart of what the challenge is for tennis,' Jevans added. 'The challenge with tennis is the fact that the players don't have an offseason which they want, they have increasing injuries that they're speaking about, and we've always said that we as Wimbledon are willing to engage and talk with the tours to try and find solutions, and that door remains open.' Wimbledon starts on June 30 and runs until July 13. For the first time in the oldest Grand Slam, line judges will be replaced with electronic line-calling. ___ AP tennis:

Real Madrid 'only' team I'd have left Liverpool for: Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold gave a press conference during his official presentation as a new Real Madrid player (JAVIER SORIANO) New Real Madrid signing Trent Alexander-Arnold said he joined the "only" team he would have considered leaving Liverpool for, at his presentation on Thursday. Reds fans jeered Alexander-Arnold after the academy graduate revealed he would leave this summer, but eventually gave him a warm farewell on the last day of the Premier League season. Advertisement "It was never a question of where, it was whether to go or not to go," the 26-year-old defender told a news conference. "I always knew... if I was to ever leave Liverpool, it would only be to go to Real Madrid, that would be the only club for me... "I'm not going to say it was easy because I'd been there so long, been a part of it, but eventually, you have to make a decision. "In my mind, I've made the right one and it's one that I'm very excited about." The right-back said the record 15-time European Cup winners' history had to be "respected" and he wanted to add to it. Advertisement "A big reason why I joined is to be a part of that amazing history that club's got," he said. "Be a part of the success going forward, joining an exciting, young team with a lot of potential." Alexander-Arnold, who moved for a fee even though his contract was expiring this summer, to speed up his arrival ahead of the Club World Cup, signed a deal until 2031. He joins former Liverpool midfielder and new Madrid coach Xabi Alonso's project after winning a second Premier League title with Arne Slot's Reds. Alonso won the Champions League with Liverpool as a player in 2005 during a remarkable final against AC Milan as the English side fought back from three goals down to triumph in Turkey. Advertisement "I grew up a Liverpool fan, being able to see (that game in) Istanbul with the manager now, doing amazing things there, part of an incredible final," said Alexander-Arnold. "We've spoken a little bit... I told him that he was a big idol of mine growing up." England international Alexander-Arnold's quality on the ball and his passing range is reminiscent of Alonso's. "It probably impacted my game a lot growing up, seeing him pass a ball, I explained this to him as well," continued the defender. "Watching him pass a ball, seeing it influenced me to be able to go and train harder and have a great kind of hunger to be able to do that and set standards." Advertisement - 'I'll be a sponge' - Alexander-Arnold said he would try to learn a lot from Alonso and was willing to play wherever the coach saw fit, be it in defence or midfield. "It's not just me who's new here, he's a new manager, he's got to get his ideas across to the whole team," he said. "He's shown how amazing he is managerial-wise and as a player, so his knowledge of football is there in abundance and I'm excited, I'll be a sponge around him." He could make his Madrid debut against Al-Hilal on June 18 in Miami in their Club World Cup opener. Alexander-Arnold will wear the number 12 shirt at Madrid, with 'Trent' on the back rather than his surname. Advertisement "I've always found when I travel to Europe, the whole name situation confuses a lot of people," he explained. "I just thought let's make it simple, let's make it easy. Trent on the back, be known as Trent." Madrid, who also signed centre-back Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, failed to win a major trophy this season under Alonso's predecessor Carlo Ancelotti, but are looking to triumph in the United States this summer. "We go straight to America for the Club World Cup and our ambition there is to go and win that trophy as well," said the defender. "I'm looking to have a great start." Advertisement Earlier Alexander-Arnold surprised as he gave a short speech in Spanish at his presentation. "Signing for a club like Real Madrid does not happen every day. It's a dream come true," he said. "I'm conscious that playing for Real Madrid is a big responsibility, but I'm ready to give everything." rbs/pb/iwd
