Notwithstanding denial by Pakistani leaders, there is not even an iota of doubt that the act was carried out under the orders of the current Pakistani Army Chief. Since 2019, when Article 370 was removed, the developments became frustrating for the Pak Army and its unofficial army, i.e. the Pak-based terrorist groups. Mainly, there were three factors. First, the situation began to improve significantly in the region. Terrorist attacks came down significantly and local recruitment declined with economic growth touching 7.8% – a shade better than the national average. The tourism sector witnessed considerable growth that created employment opportunities for local youth. With better security measures, infiltrators were neutralised at the border. The Pak Army saw that its instrument to hold its sway on the Pak polity was slipping out. This was a worrisome situation for the Pak Army, which had used terrorism in Kashmir frequently to divert the attention of its people from the economic and political troubles.
Second, the regional developments were also against its interests. The Pak Army's hold on the Pak polity was contested increasingly by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The relations between Taliban Afghanistan and Pakistan worsened, adding to its difficulties. The TTP, with the support of Afghanistan, increased its attacks on the Pakistani security forces. In Baluchistan, the BLA and BLF intensified attacks on the Pak establishment. Simultaneously, the Pak economy was in shambles and every time it had to beg international financial institutions to postpone debt repayments and loans.
Third, India's active diplomacy placed counter-terrorism at the top of the agenda in all multilateral and bilateral agreements. The Indo-US Joint Statement called on Pakistan to expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai, and Pathankot attacks and ensure that its territory was not used to carry out cross-border terrorist attacks. This was a strong message to Pakistan to stop supporting terrorist outfits on its soil. Earlier, a similar mention was made of the Pakistan-based terrorist groups in the joint declaration with Russia. In addition, India and Russia in 2021 agreed to form a permanent bilateral channel for consultations on countering the dissemination of terrorist ideology and drug threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan. India's recent strategic partnerships with several countries included cooperation in counter-terrorism. Pakistan was getting marginalised on the issue of terrorism.
In the above fast-changing scenario, the Pak Army endeavoured to incite unrest and enhance radicalisation primarily through its unofficial army. It tried to create problems when the G20 Summit was taking place. A new terrorist outfit, Jabbaz Force in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was created by the Pak Army. It comprised army and air force personnel. Crucially, this force is led by a Pakistani Army veteran, Shehzad Ahmad, who participated in the 1999 Kargil conflict. Significantly, at that time, a geopolitical activist, Mark Kinra, pointed out the presence of the Kashmiri terrorist groups at the Kakul Military Academy, which provided irrefutable evidence of the support of the Pakistani Army to the Kashmiri terrorists. In February 2025, the LeT and others organised a conference in which the leaders of these terrorist outfits declared their plan to change the map of J&K.
Pakistan's Army chief General Asim Munir, in his address, described Kashmir as Pakistan's 'jugular vein,' and justified the two-nation theory. He also mentioned that Hindus and Muslims are different and asked the audience to tell their story to their children. He was suggesting that a violent demographic change was needed in Kashmir to achieve the Pak objective. His statement reflects a deeply ingrained, Islamist and anti-Hindu mindset. Pakistan continues to use terrorism as an instrument to deal with India, and this has not changed over the years. Munir's orders were followed by the meeting of his foot soldiers to finalise the operation. Initially, the responsibility was taken by the Resistance Front (TRF), but later under the influence of the Pak Army, it denied its involvement.
India's response is well calculated, with the PM making it clear that Pakistan will not be able to use its territory for sponsoring terrorism against India in future. The Pak leaders are making hilarious statements, boasting their capabilities. A look at the changed political environment should suffice to stop them from making ridiculous declarations. While the Indian forces are ready to deal with any situation, India is considering effective ways to destroy the terrorist infrastructure. India understands that terrorism can wither away only when its support systems- funding, arms, and recruitment- are dismantled and completely destroyed.
Of course, India would need international support to pressure Pakistan. The FATF's lackadaisical approach is harmful. It keeps Pakistan on the grey list and then removes it from the list based on Pakistan's statements. It should independently verify and stop treating Pakistan with kid gloves. Others should also see the role of the Pakistani Establishment in exporting terrorism and put it under severe sanctions to ensure it demolishes its terrorism-producing factories.

Gujarat Congress leader arrested for posts on Operation Sindoor
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress general secretary Rajesh Soni was arrested on Friday for posting content on social media that was deemed misleading and damaging the morale of India's armed forces involved in Operation Sindoor, police said. The operation, launched last month by the Indian military to target terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has been a focal point of national sensitivity, prompting authorities to closely monitor online activities. According to Superintendent of Police (CID-Cyber Crime) Bharatsinh Tank, an FIR was registered against Soni on Thursday over certain posts on Facebook. Along with the May 22 post on Operation Sindoor, police also cited an older post from April 3 last year in the FIR, which HT has seen. The posts undermine the morale of defence personnel and endanger India's sovereignty through misleading information, according to police. Based on a complaint filed by Ajay Swami, 35, a sub-inspector of the cyber crime cell of the Criminal Investigation Department, CID Crime, Gujarat, Soni was charged under sections 152 (acts endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India) and 353(1)(a) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the SP said. Operation Sindoor, launched on the night of May 6-7, 2025, was a high-precision military offensive targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The operation resulted in the deaths of over 100 terrorists, with India repelling subsequent Pakistani counter-attacks. The government has since been monitoring social media for content deemed anti-national or disruptive, leading to multiple arrests across Gujarat. As many as 17 individuals, including Soni, have so far been detained in Gujarat for objectionable posts related to the operation. Gujarat Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil said that Soni was detained by police as if they were catching a terrorist. Criticising the action. Gohil said his party colleague only tried to highlight that soldiers need to get their due credit instead of government spending taxpayers money on publicity.

The new salary marks a significant rise from their previous salary of Rs 205,000. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued the notification on May 29, but details surfaced on Friday, Samaa TV reported. The monthly salary for both officials has been fixed at Rs 1.3 million and they will also receive an additional 50 per cent as a temporary allowance on top of it, according to the notification. The revised salary structure will be effective retrospectively from January 1, 2025. Earlier on March 21, it was reported that the salaries and allowances of federal cabinet members had been significantly increased, with federal ministers, ministers of state and advisers receiving hikes of up to 188 per cent. Sources had said that the federal ministers approved a summary of the salary increments for themselves and ministers of state through circulation. An amendment to the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975, was approved, paving the way for these increases. Following the bill's approval, the revised salary of a federal minister, minister of state and adviser would stand at Rs 519,000. Previously, federal ministers were earning Rs 200,000, while ministers of state had a salary of Rs 180,000. Earlier this year, the Finance Committee had approved an increase in the salaries of members of the National Assembly and senators, raising their monthly pay to Rs 519,000, according to the report.

MP CM urges Amit Shah, to order CBI probe into Indore woman's disappearance in Meghalaya
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said he has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the disappearance of an Indore-based woman in Meghalaya a fortnight back. Yadav said he has discussed the matter with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, adding that police from Madhya Pradesh were in touch with their counterparts in the north-eastern state. The woman, Sonam Raghuvanshi (25), went missing along with her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi (29), on May 23, hours after they checked out of a homestay at Nongriat village in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district during their honeymoon. Also Read | Audio, CCTV clips, raincoat: What is known about Indore couple's Meghalaya honeymoon mystery On June 2, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area, some 20 kilometres away from the homestay. But the Meghalaya police, who have registered a murder case after Raja's body was found, are yet to get any clues about Sonam's whereabouts. In a post on X, CM Yadav said, "Madhya Pradesh stands firmly with the family of Smt Sonam Raghuvanshi in this hour of crisis." "I have discussed the matter with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Senior police officials from Madhya Pradesh are in constant touch with authorities in Meghalaya. I have requested Hon'ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah to order a CBI probe into the incident," he said. Also Read | Meghalaya couple mystery: 'Was killed' poster emerges at Indore man's funeral, family fears his wife abducted All possible efforts were being made to ensure the safe return of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the CM added. On Friday, the missing woman's family urged the Centre to hand over the case to the CBI after expressing dissatisfaction with the probe by the north-eastern state's police. Talking to PTI, Sonam's father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, alleged that his daughter had been abducted and was still in the clutches of her captors, and accused the Meghalaya police of not investigating the matter properly. After their marriage on May 11, the couple left for Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon. They arrived at Mawlakhiat village on May 22 on a rented scooter. They parked their scooter and trekked 3,000 steps down the gorge to visit the famous living root-bridges at Nongriat village, where they stayed the night and left the homestay the following morning. On May 24, their scooter was found abandoned at a cafe along the road from Shillong to Sohra. A woman's white shirt, a strip of medicine, a part of the LCD screen of a mobile phone and a smartwatch were seized at the spot where Raja's body was found, as per the Meghalaya police.
