I tried Gordon Ramsay's perfect breakfast sandwich, and it was the best egg dish I've ever made
Ramsay's recipe also features his legendary technique for making scrambled eggs.
His sandwich is filled with the fluffiest eggs I've ever had. It's my new favorite breakfast.
So many Gordon Ramsay recipes have made it into my family's regular dinner rotation.
His 15-minute Bolognese is a weekly favorite, and his 10-minute burger was made for summer barbecues.
But the Michelin-starred chef is also the king of breakfast.
Ramsay calls this recipe his "perfect" breakfast sandwich, and it's still the best egg dish I've ever made.
Gordon Ramsay first showed DJ Zedd how to make his "perfect" breakfast sandwich in 2019.
The cooking demo was part of Ramsay's YouTube show "Scrambled," which follows him traveling all over the world to make different egg dishes.
Ramsay showed Zedd his special technique for making scrambled eggs, as well as the ingredients he thinks are essential for a great breakfast sandwich.
I've been on the hunt for the best breakfast sandwich recipe. So, after watching Ramsay and Zedd's cooking demo, I decided to make the dish at home.
Ramsay has a few special ingredients in his breakfast sandwich recipe.
Unlike Martha Stewart's simple breakfast sandwich — which includes just your basic bacon, egg, and cheese — Ramsay's dish has quite a few ingredients.
To make his breakfast sandwich, you'll need:
Eggs
Brioche buns
Goat cheese, at room temperature
Cheddar cheese
Thick-cut bacon
Shallots
Spring onions
Crème fraîche
One thing to note about Ramsay's recipe: The measurements on his site looked way off for just two sandwiches (12 eggs for two people!?) and didn't seem to match what I saw him use in the cooking demo. I cut most of the measurements by at least half and used four eggs total for two sandwiches.
Since Ramsay's scrambled egg technique requires your full attention, I got my prep out of the way.
Per Ramsay's instructions, I diced my shallot and thinly sliced my spring onions.
For my modified recipe, I used just one shallot and two spring onions.
I also got my bacon ready.
It was time to get cooking! First up was the bacon.
I added some olive oil to a pan and placed it on medium heat, throwing in the shallots and bacon.
I cooked them for about six minutes, waiting until the bacon strips had turned crispy and the shallots became translucent. I then set them aside on a plate lined with paper towels.
While the bacon cooked, I toasted my brioche buns.
Once my bacon was done, it was time to cook the real star of the dish: the eggs.
First, I cracked my eggs into a cold nonstick saucepan, using a wooden spoon to stir and break up the yolks.
Then, I placed my pot on low heat and added a few knobs of butter.
I removed the saucepan from the heat while stirring my eggs for 30 seconds, repeating the step until they were ready.
I repeated this method (one minute on, 30 seconds off) until my eggs looked ready. I added another knob of butter when I put my eggs on the heat for the second time, as Ramsay recommends in his recipe, and continuously stirred.
Ramsay believes that moving the saucepan on and off the heat helps prevent the eggs from overcooking, leaving you with a texture that's both silky and custardy.
I took my eggs on and off the heat three times total, then followed Ramsay's tip to check whether they were ready by scooping up some of the eggs with a spoon to make sure they had height to them.
Then, I added my crème fraîche and spring onions, seasoning everything with salt and pepper.
I prepped my toasted brioche buns with the goat cheese.
Per Ramsay's recipe, I spread the goat cheese on the top buns.
The "MasterChef" star told Zedd during their cooking demo that the goat cheese gave the sandwich a "tartness that lifts it up."
Then, I added a layer of the bacon mixture on the bottom of each bun.
A generous heap of scrambled eggs went on top.
I could already tell that the scrambled eggs were far creamier than any I had ever made. The excitement for Ramsay's sandwich was building.
I cracked some more fresh black pepper on top of my eggs, then added the cheddar cheese.
I plopped the top buns on my scrambled eggs and admired the beautiful sandwiches.
From the creamy eggs spilling out of the sides to the bright bursts of color from the cheddar cheese and spring onions, Ramsay's breakfast sandwich looked extremely appetizing.
But did his fancy technique and extra ingredients make a big difference in taste? I took my first bite, and the answer was obvious.
Ramsay's breakfast sandwich is easily one of the best I've ever had.
There's a reason Ramsay's scrambled eggs are famous, and this sandwich proved to me that they 100% deserve the hype. They're so silky and luscious. I was so excited after my first bite that I wrote in my notes: "The eggs are so freaking creamy. Like, the creamiest I've ever had."
But they weren't the only great thing about Ramsay's sandwich. The bacon and spring onions gave each bite a nice crunch, and I love that Ramsay uses a brioche bun instead of an English muffin — it's so fluffy, and it's a great vehicle for his smooth and creamy eggs.
I made this sandwich for my parents, and they were still raving about it days later, describing it as "juicy, light, and fresh."

Chef James Yeun Leong Parry is opening his highly anticipated modern Cantonese restaurant the Happy Crane on Friday, August 8. This is the crowning achievement of his culinary career thus far, which spans Michelin-starred restaurants in Hong Kong (Bo Innovation), Japan (Nihonryori RyuGin), and the United States (Benu). For the last year or so, he's been touring the Happy Crane around San Francisco as a pop-up. Fittingly, he's found a home in the location of Benu chef Corey Lee's former restaurant, Monsieur Benjamin, in the busy Gough Street corridor. His vision is 'to represent something that feels authentic, that is rooted in traditional flavors,' he says, but given its San Francisco location, the Happy Crane will also be taking advantage of local seasonal produce with a mashup of traditional and modern cooking techniques. 'What I hoped to represent is food that doesn't look overly complicated, but actually in the back end, that's where the work is,' Parry says. 'The real hard work is in the preparation and the techniques.' Read on for the inspiration and details behind four dishes on the Happy Crane menu. XO Little Fry King Jeremy Chiu Parry calls the XO Little Fry King, 'a wok dish that's super flavorful, very umami-forward.' It's a street food made in dai pai dongs, or food stalls in Hong Kong, incorporating vegetables and dried seafood, like shrimp and fish. In Parry's version, he focuses more on folding in fresh seafood. Cantonese food is highly seafood-focused, and that's something that he is passionate about. Parry will change this dish with the seafood 'seasons'; at the restaurant launch, the dish stars abalone, but he hopes to swap in shrimp or firefly squid when it's the right time of year. Parry works around the chewy qualities of the abalone through Japanese knife techniques, tenderizing it with thin knife cuts before lightly steaming the meat. This gives the abalone, as Parry puts it, 'the right amount of bite, but it's not overly chewy and still showcases the freshness of the ingredient.' The abalone is then stir-fried with bay shrimp, salted duck leg in place of the more traditional Jinhua ham, Chinese chive flowers, Jimmy Nardello peppers, bean sprouts, and cashew nuts. It offers different textures with the chewiness of the abalone, the crunch of the vegetables, and the umami notes of the XO sauce. 'It looks simple, but actually there's real tension and thought behind it — and it's tasty,' Parry says. The XO sauce is worthy of its own write-up. As Parry explains, 'It's a labor of love in that there's just a lot of steps, then the yield is quite small.' As Jinhua ham is not allowed into the United States, he is instead making a duck ham, air drying it in the walk-in and adding it to his XO recipe, along with dried scallop and shrimp, raw and dried chiles, garlic, and shallots. The sauce then marinates for six days before it's used in this stir-fry dish. Eventually the team will scale up the amount of XO they make, but for now, this is the only dish it stars in. 'Truthfully, the reason for that is, I'm really stingy about it,' Parry says, laughing. 'It's so labor-intensive.' Crab rice roll Jeremy Chiu Parry admits that cheung fan, or rice rolls, are more of a dim sum brunch dish, 'but I wanted to serve it as a dinner item, almost like a noodle, where we freshly mill the rice ourselves,' he says. He does not include any flour in his batter; instead, the bouncy, chewy gelatinous texture is achieved through soaked jasmine rice ground on a stone, then steamed. Parry's rice roll is a nod to another dish, similar to a hor fun with gravy — a less common dish at restaurants, he says — so his version comes with a sauce made of crab butter made of crab shells, chicken stock, and Shaoxing wine. The rice rolls are then dressed in this sauce and topped with Dungeness crab, Chinese celery, and yellow chives. Brent Wolfe quail Jeremy Chiu Parry admits he is also very passionate about Cantonese roast meats, and from the start, his team makes its own char siu, or Chinese barbecue pork; siu yuk, a Cantonese roast pork belly; and quail (with plans to expand the offerings down the line). He uses quails from Brent Wolfe, whom Parry calls one of the best quail purveyors in the country. For this dish, Parry takes Cantonese roast duck cooking methods and applies them to this smaller bird, dry-aging it up to six days for a crisp skin. The duck is marinated in their house-made five spice, along with ginger and fresh and dried spices, along with a glaze. The dish requires a three-step preparation: First, he cooks it at a low temperature before tossing it over a charcoal yakitori grill. It's then finished at a high temperature 'fry' where hot oil is ladled over the bird to crisp up the skin at the end. The bird is then served, bone-in, claw and all, with a side of Sichuan pepper-salt and fresh lime, plus salted, pickled Tokyo turnips to reset the palate. Mochi Rocher Jeremy Chiu Ferrero Rocher chocolates are a favorite gift to give family and friends around Chinese New Year, Parry says, and it serves as the inspiration for his dessert jian dui, or fried sesame dumplings. Traditionally filled with red bean paste or lotus seed, his version is instead filled with dark chocolate ganache and a candied, salted hazelnut, plus a chopped hazelnut exterior. Parry makes his dough with both rice flour and glutinous rice flour. The dark chocolate ganache is then portioned out with the candied hazelnut at the center, and frozen, before it's wrapped in the dough. The dumplings are then rolled in those toasted hazelnuts, rather than the usual sesame seeds, then fried to order. The result is a still-warm dumpling with a runny chocolate center; to complete the look, it's presented in a Ferrero Rocher-like wrapper. 'It's just a fun, fun way to end dinner, that's not too sweet,' Parry says. Shania Twain Last October, the 59-year-old country-pop icon celebrated the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend in the area. The "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" hitmaker took to Instagram on Oct. 14, 2024, to share a photo of herself bundled up on a dock while sitting in a Muskoka chair. "There isn't anywhere more beautiful than Canada in the fall, and there isn't a better feeling than being warm and cozy in the crisp, cold air," she wrote. "Thankful for friends and family and this fabulous view. Heaven!" Canadian fans (and fellow celebrities) were quick to echo Twain's love of Canada. In the sun-soaked photos from Goshulak Island, the 36-year-old actor spent time on the lake boating, jet-skiing and wakeboarding with his fiancée, Allison Hsu. The Only Murders in the Building star owns a cottage on Lake Rosseau and has even honoured his summer getaways in Ontario by creating a collector's coin. In 2013, the 75-year-old actor teamed up with artist Tony Bianco to create a $3 coin for the Royal Canadian Mint. The 69-year-old star owns a stunning lakeside cottage full of bay and picture windows, according to Bavarian Window Works. In the past, Hanks has shown his love for Canadians and the country's beauty. He replied to a letter from a fan in Toronto in 2016 who made a bet to see who could get a bet from a famous actor the fastest. "Toronto, huh? D— fine town," he wrote in his response, enclosed with a photo of himself. "Growing fast, all those condo towers down on the lake." Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills actress Lisa Rinna, 62, and her Clash of the Titans-starring husband, Harry Hamlin, 73, have been taking getaways to the Muskoka area for years.
