Amazon India Announces 1.5 Lakh New Jobs Owing To Festive Demand-Details
Job opportunities were created for thousands of women associates and over 2000 PWDs (differently abled people), and the company has already onboarded many of these new associates, a release from Amazon India said. The seasonal jobs are available in fulfilment centres (FCs), sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations.
"Many of these new associates continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, with a significant number returning to work with us year after year,' said Abhinav Singh, VP - Operations, India & Australia, Amazon. "Throughout our operations, we prioritise the safety and well-being of all associates—whether they're working in our buildings or delivering packages to customers," he said.
"We remain dedicated to fostering a safe, equitable, and empowering work environment that includes social security benefits and supports the financial well-being of all our team," Singh added. Amazon has increased the number of Ashray rest centres in India to 100 to support the well-being of its associates in the e-commerce network, the release said.
Further, it claimed to provide free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates across major cities, offering comprehensive services that include eye, dental, BMI, and physician consultations. Additionally, an on-site first aid ('AMCARE') facility is available at the fulfilment centres to anyone who needs immediate first-aid attention or rest.
"The Early Access to Pay (EATP) programme allows associates to withdraw up to 80 per cent of their accrued basic salary within the first 20 days of each month, promoting financial flexibility and wellness," the company said.

Amazon India said it has created more than 150,000 seasonal jobs across its operations network as the e-commerce giant prepares for a surge in demand during the country's peak festive shopping season. The hiring spans fulfilment centres, sorting facilities and delivery stations in more than 400 cities, with the company already onboarding most of the new workers ahead of the Diwali festival period, Amazon India said on Monday. This includes opportunities for thousands of women associates as well as over 2,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in its network. 'This festive season, we continue to be focused on providing fast and reliable deliveries to customers in every serviceable pin code across India,' said Abhinav Singh, Vice-President, Operations, India and Australia, Amazon. 'Many of these people continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, with a significant number returning to work with us year after year.' As part of its commitment to support the well-being of associates in the e-commerce network in India, Amazon has implemented a range of initiatives. These include the expansion of Ashray rest centres to 100 nationwide in 2025. The company also has a health and well-being initiative providing free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates across major cities. This brings essential healthcare directly to last-mile delivery stations, offering services that include eye, dental, BMI, and physician consultations. 'The company's focus on safety measures gives me confidence while working in the operations network,' said Manisha Singh, an associate who recently joined Amazon and is working at one of its fulfilment centres in Bengaluru. Amazon's Early Access to Pay (EATP) programme allows associates to withdraw up to 80 per cent of their accrued basic salary between the 1st and 20th of each month, promoting financial flexibility and wellness. The company is also working on initiatives to address knowledge gaps around basic financial well-being topics and government support programmes. Associates working at Amazon sites are entitled to two days off each week. In addition, they receive mandatory holidays, optional holidays, annual leave, sick leave, and casual leave in accordance with applicable labour laws. India's upcoming festive season is expected to generate more than 216,000 seasonal jobs, with demand for gig and temporary workers projected to rise 15–20 per cent in the second half of 2025 compared with a year earlier, according to industry estimates.

Faster approvals for critical minerals, but no green law exemption: Centre
New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) The Environment Ministry has set up a separate category on its online clearance portal to speed up approvals for mining projects involving critical minerals, a move aimed at boosting domestic supply of resources considered essential for clean energy and advanced technologies, the government informed Parliament on Monday. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh said the Mines Ministry had in February requested faster clearances for such projects, following which the new facility was added to the Parivesh 2.0 portal on March 13. The step comes after amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, which gave the Centre powers to auction 24 minerals identified as critical and strategic. These include lithium, nickel, tungsten, titanium and graphite, which India largely imports but needs for sectors such as defence, electronics and renewable energy. So far, 34 blocks of these minerals have been auctioned across the country, the minister said, adding they are vital to meeting India's goal of becoming self-reliant in key materials for the energy transition and its net zero target for 2070. Singh also said that projects will not get any exemption from the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, or the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006. The new sub-category on the portal has only been created to improve monitoring of proposals that need central approval under the forest law, he said. He also informed the House that detailed guidelines were issued on March 17, 2025, for linear projects such as highways and railways. These allow the extraction of more than 20,000 cubic metres of ordinary earth without a separate environmental clearance, subject to conditions laid down under the amended EIA rules. According to him, the time limits for considering terms of reference and environment clearance applications remain unchanged under the EIA notification. State governments will continue to play the lead role in protecting forests and wildlife, including demarcation and digitisation of boundaries and action against violations. Joint Forest Management Committees and eco-development groups are also involved in monitoring, while breaches of the forest law attract penalties under the Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Adhiniyam, 1980. The Union Cabinet in January this year cleared the National Critical Mineral Mission, which covers exploration, mining, processing and recovery of these minerals from end-of-life products. The mission is intended to secure supplies of minerals that India currently depends on a few countries for and to provide a quicker regulatory pathway for projects in this sector.
