2025 World Championships for short track, speed skating TV, live stream schedule
In speed skating, American Jordan Stolz headlines worlds at the Viking Ship in Hamar, Norway, from Thursday through Sunday.
Stolz, 20, is the two-time reigning world champion in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m. He is the only man to win three individual events at one worlds and the youngest gold medalist in worlds history (dating to 1996).
Stolz recently went more than one year between losses on the World Cup, winning a men's record 18 consecutive races before a Feb. 2 defeat.
He then had a bout of pneumonia and strep throat in February, recovered and returned to win three World Cup races. He then withdrew in the middle of the most recent World Cup two weekends ago, citing tiredness from training.
If Stolz wins three more golds in Hamar, he will pass Shani Davis, one of his former coaches, for second place on the men's all-time world titles list behind Dutchman Sven Kramer, who won 21.
Olympic 500m gold medalist Erin Jackson leads the U.S. women's team. Jackson eyes her first individual world championships medal. She is the two-time reigning World Cup season champion in the 500m based on season-long results.
However, Dutchwoman Femke Kok won all five of her 500m starts this season. Kok missed six of the 11 World Cups — taking her out of the running for the season title — and won the last two races.
2025 World Speed Skating Championships Schedule
Short track worlds are in Beijing with qualifying rounds Friday and finals Saturday and Sunday.
Kristen Santos-Griswold recently became the third American to win an overall season title as the world's top skater. The others were Apolo Ohno (2000-01, '02-03, '04-05) and Katherine Reutter ('10-11).
At least year's worlds, Santos-Griswold won a medal in all five events, including claiming her first world title in the 1000m.
Her primary challengers are from South Korea and the Netherlands, plus American teammate Corinne Stoddard. Stoddard won three medals at last year's worlds (one individual) and was the world's third-ranked skater this past season.
Canadian William Dandjinou headlines the men's field. He's ranked No. 1 in the world this season in the 1000m and 1500m and No. 2 in the 500m.

The 28-year-old is tied for the second-most Olympic medals among female gymnasts with Czechoslovakia's Vera Caslavska, and she's just two golds away from tying Russia's Larisa Latynina for the most all time (nine), meaning if Biles competed in 2028, she would have a chance to make history. Recent crashes aside, Ryan Preece looks to make this Daytona trip memorable for other reasons
Ryan Preece is a realist. He's gone airborne in two of the last four races at Daytona International Speedway and knows the chances of being in a vicious crash Saturday night remains high. Ryan Preece is an optimist. He sees the odds as in his favor of keeping all four tires on the ground for the regular season finale (Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock). Ryan Preece has a sense of humor. It would be easy to dread all the talk of his terrifying crash in 2023 at Daytona and his stunning wreck in this year's Daytona 500, but he's leaned into it heading into his final chance to make this season's playoff field. A couple of months ago, Preece had an idea. Why not have the helmet he'll wear this weekend painted like an astronaut's due to his recent flights he's had at a track about an hour's drive from the Kennedy Space Center. The idea morphed into a Top Gun theme and Maverick-style helmet. 'I think it's probably one of my favorite helmets,' Preece said. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, Yet, why even acknowledge the misfortune in the past when he's trying to make the Cup playoffs for the first time and secure RFK Racing's only playoff bid this season. 'I feel as race car drivers we're numb,' said Preece, who needs to win Saturday's race to make the playoffs. 'We're numb so to speak to wrecking like that. So, you know, when I barrel rolled two years ago or whatever it was, I still watch it and I think, 'Boy, I don't want to do that again.'' Nate Ryan, But he understands crashing can be an occupational hazard. 'For us, as race car drivers, if you're going to compete and you're going to go out there and do your job to the best of your ability, you have to have absolutely no fear,' Preece said. 'I just choose to forget about it and kind of bury it deep inside to where I don't even think about it. 'Every time we show up to Daytona, I think, 'Well, it's going to go different this time.' And sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't and that's just the game we play.' He believes his fortune will change. 'I'm a believer in the law of averages,' Preece said. ' … Eventually It's going to turn around. I feel like the best thing I can do is go this weekend and race no different than I've ever been.' Dustin Long, He's encouraged by his performance earlier this season at Talladega. He crossed the finish line in second place but his car failed inspection and was disqualified. While the result was taken away, how he drove in that race remains. 'I feel like things just really started to click,' Preece said of that Talladega race. 'When I go back and watch superspeedway style of races you see people fall into situations and sometimes it kind of just happens to work out and they win. And then there's others where they could have done things different. 'I feel like I've learned — about time I guess — with this car, understanding what I need to do to put myself in position to seize an opportunity of putting ourselves in position to win a race.'

Despite a revamped format that was supposed to benefit Liga MX entrants, American teams dominated their counterparts from south of the border in Wednesday's quarterfinals, creating a Final Four featuring all MLS teams. Messi, who led Inter Miami to the title of the 2023 edition, sat out Wednesday's game against Mexican titans Tigres with an injury, but his former Barcelona running buddy Luis Suárez stepped up by scoring both goals in the GOAT's absence in the 2-1 win. Both Orlando City and the Seattle Sounders needed penalties to book their semifinals spot. Orlando – the sole MLS squad not to host their quarterfinal — outlasted Toluca, winners of Mexico's 2025 Clausura title in May. After a scoreless 90 minutes in Carson, California, longtime Peru national team goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was Orlando's hero in the shootout, stopping two Toluca spot-kicks and then scoring the clinching goal from 12 yards. Orlando, the 16th and lowest seed heading into the tournament's knockout stage, has already exceeded expectations by getting to this stage. All the pressure will be on Miami, who Messi led to the 2023 Leagues Cup crown before even making his MLS regular season debut. Adding to the intrigue, the Lions have taken both competitive meetings so far in 2025, outscoring Miami 7-1 in those games — including a 4-1 drubbing in MLS action on Aug. 10. Having Messi available would be a huge boost for Mascherano & Co., even if it means holding the World Cup-winner out of Saturday's regular season match at D.C. United. LA Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders With three wins and just 16 points from their first 26 league games, the Galaxy own the worst record in the 30-team MLS. But the champs have been a different group in the Leagues Cup, and that run continued on Wednesday. Pachuca marked the fourth-straight Liga MX opponent that Greg Vanney's squad has vanquished, joining Tijuana, Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna.
