Hong Kong singer-actor Ronald Cheng is reportedly heading for a divorce with his wife Sammie Yu, according to the Hong Kong media.
Cheng, 53, married Yu, a former TV news anchor, in 2011. They have a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.
The singer, famous for ballads such as Your Eyes Betray Your Heart (1996), was married to singer-actress Charlene Choi, 42, between 2006 and 2010.
Signs of marital woes between Cheng and Yu surfaced when the latter celebrated her 45th birthday on March 13.
She posted on Instagram Stories a photo of herself marking the occasion with her two children, with the English caption: 'Happy birthday to me. Start a new chapter.'
She uploaded several photos of herself celebrating her birthday with a group of friends, with Cheng absent from the pictures.
Netizens also noticed that both Cheng and Yu have unfollowed each other on Instagram.
The couple were then spotted by Hong Kong's TVB Entertainment News on April 15 at the Family Court of Hong Kong attending a closed-door hearing.
Cheng was surprised by the media's presence and asked how they got wind of the hearing.
Hong Kong magazine East Week reported on April 22 that the couple have decided to divorce, and went to court after they could not reach an agreement over monthly maintenance.
Cheng had offered a monthly maintenance of HK$8,000 (S$1,300), which Yu said was insufficient to cover the daily expenses and the fees for the children's schools, tuition and enrichment classes.
In August 2024, Cheng was in the news when he announced on social media that he was taking a break after his concerts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in late September.
He then cut ties with his agency, citing alleged issues with his long-time manager Ho Hing Sheung's professional and ethical conduct.
He revealed a few days later that he was suffering from depression and alcoholism, and travelled with Yu to the United States to receive treatment at an alcohol rehabilitation centre after his Kaohsiung concerts.

Cassandra Low, who is in her 30s, was identified in a court judgment published by the New Taipei District Court on June 5. She was found guilty of endangering the personal safety of Tsao, stalking and harassing her and also publicly insulting the singer. According to the judgment, Low was said to have been an admirer of Tsao, and they had been exchanging personal e-mails and messages over Facebook and Instagram since November 2023. But after Tsao blocked Low on the social media platforms, she was displeased and posted verbal threats and insults targeting the Taiwanese singer, her family and her agent. In one post on her Facebook account, Low wrote: 'I can be very aggressive. The more stubborn she is... don't blame me for whatever I do to her parents.' In another, she wrote: 'Blocking me, see how I slowly let her agent die.' Low's repeated threats caused Tsao and her agent to leave their homes in New Taipei City. Her extreme behaviour came to a head in February 2025, when she followed Tsao to the Banqiao high-speed rail station after learning her idol was planning to take the train. Low successively held on to Tsao's luggage and her phone in a bid to force the singer to unblock her on social media before she was taken away by local police to assist with investigations. In a video recorded by Tsao during the February incident, Low can be seen blocking the singer's path until she agreed to a reconciliation. For her crimes, Low was sentenced to a total of six months in prison, or a commuted fine of NT$1,000 (S$43) for each day of her jail term . The court had heard that Low is a Singaporean and earned a salary that was more than double that of someone working in Taiwan, meaning that a fine alone may not provide the intended corrective impact or reflect the severity of her crimes. Low will also be deported from Taiwan after serving her sentence or paying her fine. On June 11, Tsao expressed relief at the judgment. 'This is the most comforting piece of news I have received recently,' she wrote on Instagram and Facebook, thanking those around her and her lawyer for their companionship and help.
