Incinerator emissions proposal marks a first for Trump 2.0

E&E News07-05-2025

EPA is closing in on changes to Clean Air Act regulations for some solid waste incinerators, following a lawsuit brought almost a decade ago.
The agency on Tuesday sent a draft final rule for small and institutional trash-burning operations to the White House regulations office for a routine review, according to a notice posted on a government tracking website.
Under a revised settlement to the Sierra Club suit filed in 2016 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, EPA must wrap up work on the rule by the end of next month.

The draft, which has not yet been made public, is notable as only the third regulation of any kind that EPA has sent to the Office of Management and Budget regulations office in the 3 ½ months since President Donald Trump took office. The first two, which are still under review, would repeal existing regulations, according to EPA's thumbnail descriptions of each.

Trump's coal frenzy clashes with market realities

President Donald Trump's mad dash to unleash more mining and burning of 'beautiful clean coal' across the U.S. is running face-first into unfavorable market realities. The president has vowed to reverse Biden-era policies, rev up U.S. mining, and keep aging coal-fired power plants alive. But hundreds of miners have been laid off in states like West Virginia in recent weeks, prices remain low and a growing number of small, metallurgical coal producers across the U.S. continue to declare bankruptcy. Last week, Core Natural Resources laid off 200 miners in West Virginia at a metallurgical coal mine. The announcement arrived after Coronado Global Resources laid off workers at its coal mine in the state. Miners were also laid off at Alpha Metallurgical Resources' mine in Boone County last year. At the same time, companies like Corsa Coal Corp. and Coking Coal, LLC, have declared bankruptcy, and some say the industry will continue to face turbulence. Advertisement 'I wouldn't be surprised if we see several other producers either go out of the market or … you'll see substantial cutbacks, layoffs,' Randall Atkins, founder of Kentucky-based Ramaco Resources, which mines both coal and rare earths, told POLITICO's E&E News. 'There are plenty of others that are not in good shape. There are more companies out there that are teetering.'

Trump Crypto-Wallet Spat Ends With World Liberty Buying Memecoin

Eric Trump signaled that the tension between the competing factions of Donald Trump's crypto empire has cooled and the family's World Liberty Financial will buy a 'substantial' amount of the memecoin at the center of the dispute. The president's son said in a post on X on Friday that the company responsible for the Trump memecoin isn't moving forward with a digital-wallet offering that has caused a fissure with World Liberty Financial, the crypto company owned in part by the Trump family.

The Procter & Gamble Company (PG): A Bull Case Theory

We came across a bullish thesis on The Procter & Gamble Company (PG) on Librarian Capital's Substack. In this article, we will summarize the bulls' thesis on PG. The Procter & Gamble Company (PG)'s share was trading at $169.89 as of 30th May. PG's trailing and forward P/E were 26.97 and 24.27 respectively according to Yahoo Finance. Copyright: jetcityimage / 123RF Stock Photo Procter & Gamble (P&G) continues to offer a compelling opportunity for defensive investors, with shares recently trading just above their 52-week low and reflecting modest market pessimism despite the company's inherent resilience. The stock has declined 5.7% since Donald Trump's announcement of 'reciprocal tariffs' in early April and is down 3.0% over the past year. However, since the initiation of a Buy rating in January 2024, shares have returned 10.6%, and previous inclusions in a model portfolio yielded low-single-digit profits. The current pullback appears driven by a broader sector-wide slowdown in consumer spending since February, which P&G was among the first to reflect in its outlook. Still, Q4 FY25 organic sales growth is guided at +0.5–4.5%, suggesting resilience in a softening environment. P&G's predictable cash flows, dominant brand portfolio, and global scale position it as a relative safe haven amid macro uncertainty. Its valuation of ~24x FY25 EPS and 2.6% dividend yield offer an appealing combination of defensiveness and income. With more conservative expectations already priced in, the stock's risk/reward profile remains attractive. At $160.90 per share, the forecasted total return is 35% by June 2028, implying a 10.4% internal rate of return. The current environment—where broader consumer confidence is under pressure—may reinforce P&G's appeal as a steady compounder. Even amid short-term headwinds, the company's fundamentals remain intact, and its risk-adjusted return profile offers a favorable setup for long-term investors seeking stability with upside.
