'We're pleased that the judge saw the urgent need to put a pause on additional construction, and we look forward to advancing our ultimate goal of protecting the unique and imperiled Everglades ecosystem from further damage caused by this mass detention facility,' said Eve Samples, executive director at Friends of the Everglades.

HC names ADG Sanjiv Shami to head SIT probe against Masood
Bhopal/Jabalpur: Koh-e-fiza police may register an FIR against Congress MLA Arif Masood on Wednesday. The MP high court has directed police commissioner, Bhopal, to register the FIR against the Congress MLA over alleged fraud linked to a college run by him. The court directed filing of the FIR within 3 days after uploading of its order on a petition filed by Masood challenging the decision of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, to derecognise the college run by Aman Society of which he is the secretary. The order was uploaded on the high court's website on Monday. Police were expected to register an FIR on Tuesday evening but it was deferred as documents required for the purpose couldn't be collected by them. Meanwhile, a division bench of justices Atul Sreedharan and Pradeep Mittal have recommended the name of ADG (telecommunication) Sanjiv Shami to head the special investigation team (SIT), which shall be constituted by the DGP to oversee the police investigation into the case involving Masood after registering an FIR against him. Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister and finance minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday alleged that the previous BRS govt had approved development works in certain departments without regard for income or budget allocations, at an alarming ratio of 1:25. He said several projects were taken up but left incomplete, leading to severe fund shortages and leaving new ministers unable to propose fresh works in their departments. At a review meeting with members of the cabinet sub-committee on infrastructure and capital works, held at the secretariat, Bhatti pointed out that approvals in governance had traditionally followed a 1:3 ratio based on revenue and budget.
