NASCAR Rumors: Justin Haley on Hot Seat, Spire Motorsports Could Replace Him This Season
Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reported that Haley's seat with Spire Motorsports might be 'scorching' right now, with ownership not happy with the results its third driver has delivered this season. While a change isn't imminent, Spire could reportedly make an in-season change if Haley doesn't show 'considerable improvement' soon.
'There is no hotter seat in the garage than Justin Haley's. How could it not be scorching, considering the performance disparity between him and his two Spire Motorsports teammates? Carson Hocevar and Michael McDowell each have been regularly competitive and close to winning.'

Justin Haley stats (): 378 points, 1 top 10, 0 top 5s, 0 poles, 1 DNF, 18 laps led, 22.208 average starting position, 21.304 average finishing position in 23 races
However, the decision to replace Haley isn't cut-and-dry. An overwhelming majority of the top Cup Series drivers are under contract for next season. The pool of talent in NASCAR free agency this offseason thinned out quickly, leaving Spire with limited options who would be viewed as a true upgrade.
The team also knows that it hasn't necessarily put Haley in the best position for success. In April, just nine races into the year, Spire parted ways with Haley's crew chief Rodney Childers. In addition, Haley lost four members of his pit crew to Kyle Larson's No. 5 car when it needed to make changes.

Haley, in his age-26 season, certainly hasn't performed up to expectations since joining Spire in the No. 7 car. Over the last two seasons, he has just four top-10 finishes, and he ranks 29th in average finishing position over the last 36 races among full-time drivers. His teammates, Michael McDowell and Carson Hocevar, have also easily outperformed him.
While Spire's frustrations with its lack of success from its third full-time car are understandable, it doesn't have many other options. Even if a target emerges, the team would also have to deal with its reputation for being a bit impatient with its drivers, even those whose supporting cast gets overhauled abruptly.
Ultimately, all that matters to Spire is the results. For Haley, he just has to hope that he can return to the recent form he delivered in July that led to three top-20 finishes, including 12th in the Brickyard 400.

Shane Steichen on where Colts' QB battle stands going into 2nd preseason game
Following the Indianapolis Colts' joint practice with the Green Bay Packers, head coach Shane Steichen still isn't ready to put a timeline on when a decision at quarterback will be made. "We'll work through that," Steichen said via "We had today, we got a preseason game (Saturday), we have some practices next week and we'll work through that. I don't have an exact timetable on it, but sooner rather than later would be nice." Steichen added that he wants to see how Saturday plays out and see where things go early next week. Perhaps part of the difficulty here is that from the outside looking in, it doesn't look like either quarterback has seized control of the starting job. Anthony Richardson has certainly improved on his short to intermediate throws, an area that was a priority for him during the offseason. His decision-making has gotten better as well. However, as ESPN's Stephen Holder put it in a recent article of his, Richardson has still been "somewhat boom-or-bust" -- able to generate the big plays but still missing some easy throws he has to make. On the flip side, Daniel Jones has been an efficient passer throughout his career but has struggled to create explosive plays down the field. If Steichen truly does view this quarterback competition as close, my guess would be that Richardson gets the nod, but that still remains to be seen. Deciding who will start Week 1 isn't only about completion rate either. As Steichen has said, he's looking for consistency, and that goes across the board. "I think it all matters, it all counts," Steichen said. "Every rep matters. Every walkthrough matters. Every meeting matters. It all matters. So, everything's being evaluated." From the sounds of it, Saturday's preseason game will be a crucial part of this decision-making process. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones? Guggenheim Reiterates Sell on Tesla (TSLA) Despite FSD and Robotaxi Updates
Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is one the On August 12, Guggenheim analyst Ronald Jewsikow reiterated a Sell rating on the stock with a $175.00 price target. The firm said that it is sticking with its sell rating and that it is cautious on the company's full self-driving. CEO Elon Musk unveiled some important updates around both the Robotaxi operations in Austin and the upcoming FSD model. The updates were made in a series of posts on X over the weekend. While Tesla shares 'somewhat paradoxically' rallied on the news, names like Uber and Lyft who were previously sensitive to Tesla autonomy, did too. The firm considers this as 'mixed signals from the market.' Hadrian / 'On the Robotaxi operations in Austin, CEO Musk indicated it would be open to the public next month, which we believe is earlier than investor expectations and a sign of confidence in the service and feedback from the invite-only riders to date. We believe the expanded FSD model has positive implications for bulls focused on the potential for TSLAs fleet eventually becoming Robotaxis (positive read on inference compute), and the opening of the Austin Robotaxi experience to the public is a key step on the growth path of inviting a potentially more critical set of consumers. While safety drivers will remain, and no timeline has been provided for their removal, bulls have been willing to overlook the optics of safety drivers in TSLA vehicles, and we see no reason why that would change now.' Arch Manning doesn't make Manning Award watch list
Arch Manning is the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, but he's not officially on the radar of the award named after his family. Yet. The watch list for the 2025 Manning Award, which recognizes the nation's top quarterback, was released Thursday with 27 different quarterbacks making the cut. Manning, whose family is the namesake of the award, wasn't one of them. Manning entered the Texas program as one of the most hyped recruits in college football history and is taking over the starting job after two seasons of backing up Quinn Ewers. He was the favorite to go first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, until his grandfather Archie said he expected him to stay at Texas for his senior season. There is a reason for Manning not making the Manning Award watch list, though. Every quarterback who made the cut saw significantly more action last year than the 21-year-old, who appeared in 10 games but started only two for Longhorns. The Manning Award's announcement makes clear that additional quarterbacks will be added to the watch list as the season progresses, and you would figure that Manning will be an easy choice if he performs as expected. And if he is one of the frontrunners, we'll see how he does with a voting panel that includes multiple family members. The Manning family might even be in on some kind of joke here, as Archie is directly quote in the release saying they will review the newcomers: "We're looking forward to another exciting year of college football," said Archie Manning. "I'd like to thank the Sugar Bowl for continuing to build the tradition of the Manning Award which now has over 20 years of honoring the top quarterbacks in the country for the entire football season. This year we have another great group on our preseason Watch List; in October, we'll review the transfers and other newcomers and then boost the Watch List with the best from that group." If you're curious, here's the full list of quarterbacks on the preseason watch list, which includes Penn State's Drew Allar and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, the new favorites to go first overall in the draft next year.
