Recovered Healy focused on World Cup glory in India

Having faced fitness issues over the last few months, Australia captain Alyssa Healy is aiming to go the full stretch in the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India later this year. 'According to science, the ODI World Cups is one of the heaviest loads that we go through as cricketers,' Healy told AAP . 'My aim is to play every game of that World Cup. So to make sure I can do that is important.' Healy's injury troubles began when she suffered a foot injury towards the end of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, followed soon after by a knee injury in the Women's Big Bash League. The best of Alyssa Healy | CWC22 This restricted the player's participation in Australia's upcoming contests, and while she featured sporadically in a successful Women's Ashes triumph Down Under, she missed out on engagements against New Zealand, and the Women's Premier League in India. With recovery on the right track, the next step in Healy's quest for World Cup appearance is expected to be Australia A's face-off against India in Queensland in August. A win in the World Cup would make Australia the first side to have won back-to-back titles in the tournament since 1988. For Healy, since taking over the side after Meg Lanning's departure in 2023, her goal has been to place them in the best possible position to repeat their 2022 World Cup glory. Australia's CWC22 triumph | The Day After 'That was one of my goals, putting a timeline on it and saying this is where I could take this group, even not knowing what I was going to do personally," Healy said. 'It definitely was a big focus of mine, to get the group to a place to compete at this World Cup, and win the trophy 'It's not so much about the captaincy, or ticking one more box [at a personal level]. It's just that I want to win a World Cup for Australia, and no one has gone back-to-back, which is a real motivator.' With her focus directed on the global tournament in India, any talks of retirement were secondary for Healy. While mindful of her age and the demands of the game, Healy wanted to make up for lost time in the coming months. 'It's [retirement date] probably shifted a little bit,' Healy said. 'It's [injuries have] made me realise that I still want to do a little bit more than maybe what I thought. At the same time, sometimes there's stuff in life that are a little bit more important than pulling on the green and gold. So it's just a constant reassess. 'But at the moment I definitely want to play a home summer. I want to bring the World Cup home, but also to play against India [in 2026 at home].'

Babar Azam and other highest-paid cricketers in Big Bash League after 2025/26 player draft

When you talk of T20 and league cricket, the first name that pops up is generally the Indian Premier League. That tournament changed the course of modern cricket and paved the way for other franchise leagues, bringing in billions of dollars into the sport. After almost two decades, the IPL remains at the pinnacle of cricket and is also one of the most valuable sports commodities on the planet. But apart from IPL, there are other big and exciting leagues in the world. And the consensus is that while the IPL is the biggest, Australia's Big Bash League has consistently been the best league in cricket. The Big Bash League has steadfastly eschewed big investments from overseas entities until now, retaining ownership of their product. The result is a high-quality tournament that focuses on creating a family-friendly environment at the ground and encourages grassroots participation. The tournament runs for a big portion of the Australian summer – December to January – alongside international cricket. The tournament does struggle a bit when it comes to attracting top talent, as many of their own stars are busy with international cricket while overseas players also have commitments with other leagues that run at the same time. This year, the situation is slightly different. Several Pakistan stars have suddenly been made available for the 2025/26 season. The country's own Pakistan Super League has shifted away from the January-February window, at least for now, and that has allowed star names to be picked for the next season of the Big Bash. Star batter Babar Azam, fast-bowling ace Shaheen Afridi, and wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan were some of the big names picked up during the player draft last week. The Big Bash operates on a player draft with salary caps. Players are divided into four categories – platinum, gold, silver and bronze. The top tier platinum category players receive up to A$420,000 (US$270,000) depending on availability. Gold category players receive up to $190,000 followed by silver ($127,000) and bronze ($63,000). Here, we take a look at the highest paid players in the Big Bash League after the latest player draft. All players in list are platinum category. Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian aircraft, month after ceasefire deal

Pakistan has extended an airspace ban on Indian aircraft until July 23, the Pakistan Airports Authority said on Monday, a month after the two countries agreed to a ceasefire following a military conflict. Pakistan's previous restrictions on Indian aircraft were set to cease on June 24. Tensions flared following a deadly attack on tourists in Kashmir in April, eventually triggering the worst military conflict in nearly three decades between the nuclear-armed rivals before a ceasefire was agreed on May 10.
