Brian Barry-Murphy: 'A last-minute winner, it creates a sense of joy that's hard to replicate'
"I thought we played well, but we didn't underestimate how difficult it is to come to this venue," said the Corkman, who is just t wo months into his time as manager.
"Johnnie [Jackson] has had sustained success over a long period of time, so they're very confident and very difficult to play against, but I thought we handled the occasion really well. We played some really good football, and in the end got what I felt we deserved.
"I think we wanted to define what we looked like, so when the games are difficult, that we keep playing the way we want to play, and keep going right until the last whistle, and the players did that.
"We have a team that's in the very early stages of forming, so to show the resilience that we did, and to give ourselves a chance to win the game by keeping a clean sheet, for our team it gives us a lot of belief that we have to be resilient and really skilled in how we defend the goal at all times."
The winning goal came via a combination of substitutes David Turnbull and Isaak Davies, both of whom came on 30 minutes earlier. Turnbull's volley was deflected into the net off Davies's knee.
"We've got a really small squad, but what we wanted was to have absolute quality who can start or come off the bench," said Barry-Murphy.
"The subs seemed pretty natural for me; they felt as if they were the right fit for the time of the game.
"David helped us in a period where we were just threatening to lose a little bit of control and calmness in the middle of the pitch. Isaak gave us real speed in wide areas – to see him rewarded for what has been a difficult period was very beneficial for us all."
Cardiff travel to face sixth-placed Luton, who were relegated from the Championship last season, at lunchtime on Saturday.
"The energy from the supporters since the first day I came into the club has been amazing," Barry-Murphy continued.
"There's a feeling of real positivity towards the team. You always want to give them something to feel ecstatic about, and a last-minute winner in that fashion, I suppose it creates a sense of joy that's hard to replicate.
"It's a brilliant venue for us to go and test ourselves in. I was really conscious of the fact that we had a really good performance on Saturday, and the team seemed settled for tonight.
"We've got a really good chance to recover tomorrow, train on Thursday and Friday, and then prepare ourselves for what's going to be a really good test on Saturday in front of as many away fans as we had tonight."

Leeds sign forward Noah Okafor on four-year deal from AC Milan
LEEDS HAVE SIGNED Switzerland forward Noah Okafor from AC Milan for a reported fee which could rise to £18million (€21m). Okafor, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Serie A champions Napoli, is Leeds' ninth summer signing following promotion to the Premier League. The club said: 'Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Noah Okafor on a four-year contract, subject to a work permit and international clearance. 'The 25-year-old arrives at Elland Road on a permanent deal from Italian giants AC Milan and can operate across the forward areas on either wing, or as a central striker when required to do so.' Okafor's arrival is expected to end Leeds' interest in Tottenham winger Manor Solomon, who played a starring role for Daniel Farke's Championship-winning side on loan last season. Leeds have now spent around £92million in total on new players since ending their two-year top-flight absence. Farke, who also wants to add a full-back to his squad, confirmed last week following the arrival of Dominic Calvert-Lewin that he was hoping to further boost his attacking options and it remains to be seen whether Leeds are still in pursuit of another out-and-out striker. Okafor, who began his professional career at Basel, scored 34 goals and made 23 assists in 110 appearances for Salzburg before joining AC Milan in a €15.5m deal in July 2023. He scored seven goals and made five assists in two seasons at the Serie A club, which included his four-month loan spell at Napoli.

Niall Horan gets emotional revisiting beloved ground
Niall Horan has recently opened up about an emotional return to his beloved Pride Park – the home of Derby County. The former One Direction star is a huge Derby fan and shared how much he loves the club and the ground itself when he returned to watch them take on Coventry City on Saturday. Unfortunately for Niall, it wasn't a victorious return, although he did get to see a lot of goals in the Rams' 5-3 defeat to Frank Lampard's side. Niall Horan is a huge Derby County fan. Pic: GMCD Derby were 3-2 up with 20 minutes to go but couldn't hold on as Coventry sailed to victory, scoring three goals in seven minutes to claim all three points. Niall spoke about his long time support of the English side and revealed he used to get up at 4am to watch their matches while he was in the US. He told BBC Derby: 'I get very emotional about being here. I love this place. I love this ground. I love the vibe it gives off. I just love Derby County. Niall attempts to watch as many games as he can. Pic: Steve Galli/REX/Shutterstock 'I probably get here twice or three times a season, but get to a lot more away games. 'When we're on the road, I find it easier to make a quick train journey somewhere on a Friday night or a Saturday, maybe in London or something like that. Something that's a little bit closer to me. 'But I do spend a lot of time in the States and travelling and stuff like that. But I watch every single game on Rams TV for my sins sometimes, but I've been up early across the planet to watch the Rams. Won't miss a game.' Niall watched on as Derby lost 5-3 to Coventry. Pic: Jon Hobley/MI News/NurPhoto via Getty Images Niall went on to heap praise upon Derby manager John Eustace, who he believes in the best head coach in the EFL Championship. The singer continued: 'I love John, I think John Eustace is one of the best, if not the best, manager in the league. '(He's) one of the greatest British managers flying around. He's proving himself everywhere. He kept us up last season. He just needs to accumulate this team and make them look good. We've got a lot of injuries obviously, but today we were just sloppy. Unfortunately for Niall, it wasn't a victorious return, although he did get to see a lot of goals in the Rams' 5-3 defeat to Frank Lampard's side. Pic: GMCD 'I'm sure I won't be the only person to say that. We were all over the place. We didn't look energised, we didn't look like we could win a second ball. It was just very, very frustrating, but not a crazy day to be a Derby County fan. We've seen this before, and we'll be here again.' Niall's beloved side haven't had a great start to the new Championship season, losing 3-1 to Stoke City on the opening day before the defeat to Coventry. However, they did knock West Brom out of the EFL Cup in the first round on penalties. Derby have been drawn away to Premier League side Burnley in the second round, which will not be an easy task. Niall will be relieved that he still gets to watch Derby in the Championship after they narrowly avoided relegation to League One last season. The Rams' 0-0 draw with Stoke on the final day of the season was just enough to keep them up by a single point, but they rallied to win the two previous matches to escape the drop. Derby's late surge of form condemned Luton Town to back-to-back relegations. Niall will no doubt be keeping an eye on the side in their next Championship clash against Bristol City on Friday night.

All-Ireland winner's team granted replay in county final after new rules blunder
The Westville Hotel Fermanagh senior league division one final is set for a replay after Erne Gaels lodged an objection to last weekend's result. Erne Gaels, managed by Declan Bonner and county Championship winners in 2024, were pipped at the post by Derrygonnelly Harps in the 2025 league final last Sunday, according to the referee. The Harps staged a thrilling comeback win, netting four two-point scores in the final quarter. However, video footage from the final, streamed by Fermanagh GAA TV, revealed that the last two pointers were well within the two point arc and should not have been awarded. The match concluded with a scoreline of 0-17 to 0-15. The outcome sparked widespread fury, leading Fermanagh GAA to disable replies to their social media posts in the days following the clash at Brewster Park. Despite Gaels manager Declan Bonner initially stating on Monday that the issue was 'done', the club later submitted an appeal to the county board, reports Belfast Live. "I am sure the officials who made this mistake will hold up their hand," Donegal 1992 All-Ireland winner Bonner told the Impartial Reporter earlier this week. "Fair play to Derrygonnelly, they showed great heart and character to come back so well. For us it's over and it's done. But it beggars belief, that a referee and seven other officials could not spot what everyone else in the ground could see. "It was clear that the last two points were not taken from outside the 40-metre arc. We have a championship coming up in two weeks' time and that is where our focus is at the minute." In a statement, Fermanagh GAA said: "Erne Gaels Belleek submitted an Objection to the Fermanagh Competitions Control Committee in accordance with Rule 7.5 of the GAA's Official Guide in relation to the outcome of the Westville Hotel Senior Football League Division 1 Final. "As is required under Rule, this Objection was sent to the Derrygonnelly Harps club for a response. "After considering the communications from both clubs, the CCC has decided that the Objection has been upheld, as provided for in Rule 7.5 (n) (ii), on the grounds that two scores allowed during the course of the Game were incorrectly recorded and that that affected the result of the Game. The response received from Derrygonnelly Harps to the Objection has allowed this decision to be taken without the need for any hearings to take place. "The CCC has therefore determined that a replay of this game is required. Further engagement will take place with both clubs on potential dates and an outcome will be communicated once it has been agreed by the CCC." The Fermanagh senior Championship is set to kick off in a mere 10 days. Erne Gaels are slated to take on Ederney in the first match of their title defence. Derrygonnelly will square off against Lisnaskea in their initial group game.
