Is the Super Bowl airing on Nickelodeon this year? What to know about the broadcast
On the heels of last year's all-time record 127 million viewers, Super Bowl 59, featuring the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, could draw even more eyes this weekend.
The event is broadcasting Sunday night on Fox and on live streaming services.
Last year, kids were treated to their own extra-special version of the Super Bowl on Nickelodeon, marking the first time football's biggest night had an alternate telecast on another network.
In line with other quirky broadcasts, like when "The Simpsons" universe was brought to a Bengals-Cowboys game Dec. 9, the Nickelodeon Super Bowl featured the kid network's signature green slime graphics and co-hosts SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star.
Unfortunately, those banking on enjoying a Nickelodeon-ified Super Bowl will be disappointed this year. It won't be airing on the kids TV channel, leaving the plain old, real game as the sole broadcast for this year's Super Bowl.
Here's why.
Unlike last year, this year's Super Bowl will not be available to watch on Nickelodeon, or any other CBS-owned platforms, including Paramount+, for that matter. Instead, Super Bowl 59 will broadcast on Fox, the same network that aired Super Bowl 57, which also featured the Chiefs versus the Eagles.
On years CBS does not have the broadcasting rights to the Super Bowl (like this year), Nickelodeon doesn't either.
It'll be a few years before a Nickelodeon Super Bowl might come back into view. CBS, and by extension possibly Nickelodeon, will broadcast the game in 2028, according to an agreement.
Date: Sunday, Feb. 9.
Kickoff: 6:30 p.m. ET.
Location: Caesars Superdome (New Orleans).
Super Bowl 59 will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET and will broadcast on Fox.

"For some reason here—especially the NFL, which is the most dangerous sport—you're playing on the most dangerous surface. The reason why it's dangerous is because athletes are now bigger, stronger, faster. It continues to evolve. When you're that strong and that fast, something's going to give. You plant your foot into that turf and what happens is turf will grab. Grass gives." If Deion Sanders wants to model his program to be the most NFL-ready in the nation, it starts with being consistent with what's going on in the league. Three of the past four Super Bowl winners play on grass at their respective home stadiums. It will continue until the players decide to stand up and say, 'Listen, we don't want to play on turf anymore.' The thing is, all players hate it." The topic of playing surfaces should be a top priority in future negotiations with the commission.
