Selfies of woman "dripping in diamonds" on cruise led to her arrest for jewelry theft, police say
A woman in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for jewelry theft, after selfies that showed her "dripping in diamonds" on a cruise tipped off a criminal investigation, police said.
Lucy Roberts, 39, was convicted of stealing more than £124,000 worth of jewelry and cash from a luxury store that she previously managed, according to Humberside Police in northeastern England, where the scheme took place. The haul included diamonds, gold and silver pieces, with the total value of stolen items equating to around $170,000.

Police said Roberts acquired the costly accessories during her tenure at the jewelry shop, when she would take items home with her and tell suspicious colleagues that she was just "sorting stock" for the store at her residence.
Roberts left her job at the store after a year as its manager, police said. Then, from a cruise ship, she sent selfies to her former coworkers that pictured her wearing luxury jewels, which staff did not believe she'd purchased.
"Without a care in the world, dripping in diamonds, thinking she had deceived everybody, Roberts arrogantly posed on social media and sent pictures boasting to her ex-colleagues about the great time she was having on holiday, not thinking they would realise what she had been doing," said Sgt. Krista Wilkinson, a detective with Humberside Police, in a statement.
A police investigation found that Roberts had falsified stock inventory and made fraudulent returns to the store, prompting a search of her home where some stolen jewelry was found. More than 260 items were discovered "strewn around in boxes beneath the bed and in cupboards," Humberside Police said.
Officers arrested Roberts at Heathrow Airport in London when she returned from the cruise. According to police, she was wearing stolen jewels, and more were found in her suitcase. They said body-worn camera footage showed Roberts at the airport attempting to remove and dispose of her jewelry.
Roberts denied the theft allegations, according to police.

'All landlords' in Greater Manchester issued warning amid Andy Burnham crackdown
All landlords in Greater Manchester will be expected to signed for a new 'UK-first' initiative set up by Andy Burnham. The Greater Manchester mayor has hailed a 'new era for renting' as his Good Landlord Charter finally gets going. More than 100 landlords have signed up for the scheme so far, including most social housing providers, covering more than 234,000 homes. As supporters of the scheme, they have all committed to a list of 21 criteria which sets out the standards expected of landlords. It comes as local authorities continue their crackdown on poor housing with nearly £1.47m collected in fines over the last two years. Mr Burnham hopes this will drive up standards with a 'twin-track' approach that recognises good landlords and punishes bad ones. Speaking at a housing conference in Manchester on Thursday (June 26), Salford mayor Paul Dennett, who leads the housing portfolio in the city-region, said he wants 'all private landlords' to sign up to the charter, but recognises that some will be reluctant to do so. He said: "It's about sorting the wheat from the chaff and then using our resources to tackle, through enforcement, the really poor standards. "That's where we want to go with this. It's a strategic approach ultimately to housing enforcement which we've never had before because of austerity." So far, more than half of all homes across the city-region are covered by the charter thanks to their landlords signing up, including 95 per cent of social housing with all landlords who are members of the Greater Manchester Housing Providers group having joined. Mr Dennett said that he expects all social housing landlords operating in Greater Manchester to meet the standards in the Charter. However, he recognised that some social housing providers are not currently meeting these standards, citing the tragic death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak who died in 2020 due to damp in his home in Rochdale as a recent example where standards were not met. It follows an announcement by the government this week about the first measures that will come into force under Awaab's Law. The legislation, which the Manchester Evening News campaigned for, puts strict deadlines on landlords to respond to hazards. Mr Dennett said that the Good Landlord Charter gets Greater Manchester ready for new legislation, including the Renters' Rights Bill. He also spoke of an amendment to that bill which would allow council officers to conduct property checks on properties faster. It comes after Mr Burnham announced that renters would have the right to request a 'property check' as part of his new charter. Mr Dennett said that council officers can already check properties, but need to give notice for entering properties and can't deal with issues retrospectively, which is why he hopes that the amendment which allow for property checks to happen quicker will go through. He said the right to request a property check will go ahead regardless, although no target date for its introduction has been set yet.

Chicago man charged with sexually abusing 2 girls at Dearborn Park playground
A man was charged after he sexually abused two young girls at a playground in the Dearborn Park neighborhood earlier this month. Lodell Burnett, 69, was charged with one felony count of criminal sexual abuse of a victim younger than 13 and one felony count of violation of sex offender registration. The incident happened on June 11 around 7:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Plymouth Court. Police said three young girls were at the playground at Jones Park. A short time later, the suspect [Burnett] approached one of the girls and grabbed her as she crawled on playground equipment. He then walked over and sat next to another girl, engaged in a short conversation, and briefly touched the minor in an inappropriate manner, police said. As the three girls left the playground, he briefly followed them before fleeing northbound through the Plymouth Court tunnel. Police said Burnett appeared at a detention hearing on June 15. Indonesian police suspect 3 Australians of premeditated murder of a fellow national in Bali
MENGWI, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesian police investigating the fatal shooting of an Australian tourist at a villa on the resort island of Bali said Thursday that two Australians are suspected of arriving on a scooter and opening fire and another Australian of facilitating the crime. Zivan Radmanovic, a 32-year-old from Melbourne, was killed just after midnight on June 13 at a villa near Munggu Beach in Bali's Badung district. A second man, a 34-year-old from Melbourne, was left beaten in the attack. Police previously announced that they had arrested three Australian men, and at a news conference Thursday gave new details of an investigation they said was supported by the Australian Federal Police. Investigators have not revealed a motive in the killing, but said they have enough evidence to bring the men to trial on charges of premeditated murder, which could carry a life sentence or the death penalty. The crime scene investigation and surveillance cameras have showed that two suspects, identified by their initials as MC and PT, were the shooters, Bali Police Chief Daniel Adityajaya told a news conference in Badung. The third suspect, identified as DJF, helped the others by buying a hammer used to break down the villa door, renting two cars and three motorcycles and buying ferry and bus tickets to flee the island, Adityajaya said. One of the suspects was caught at Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta international airport on June 16, and the following day the other two were arrested with the help of Interpol, in Singapore and Cambodia, and sent back to Indonesia. Police on Thursday presented the three suspects handcuffed and wearing orange prison uniforms. Witnesses at the villa told investigators that two gunmen arrived on a scooter at the villa around midnight. Radmanovic was shot in a bathroom of his room, where police found 18 bullet casings and two intact bullets. Radmanovic's partner, Jazmyn Gourdeas, 30, told police that she suddenly woke up when she heard her husband screaming. She cowered under a blanket when she heard multiple gunshots. She later found her husband's body and the other injured Australian, whose wife also testified to seeing the attackers. The women are sisters. Adityajaya said police have retrieved one of two guns that were thrown away by the suspects near a rice field, about 700 meters (yards) from the villa. They also found bullet residues at gloves and balaclavas inside a white van used by the three men, and the same residues also were found on the bodies of two of the suspects. Police did not detail how they believe the suspects obtained the weapons, which are heavily regulated in Indonesia, but Adityajaya said police were still gathering evidence. Adityajaya said that the Australian national who survived the attack and the women have been relocated to a secure location.
