New Delhi [India], June 29 (ANI): Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday attended the Golden Jubilee inaugural celebrations of the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris, praising the organisation's fifty years of selfless service rooted in spirituality, social harmony, and character building, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said in a release on Sunday.
In his keynote address, he described the Brahma Kumaris as a 'transformative force' guiding society away from negativity and toward moral clarity through the power of meditation, human values, and spiritual discipline.
'For the last fifty years, the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris have nurtured not just individual souls but the very soul of our society,' said Sonowal. 'Their tireless service mirrors the vision of 'Antyodaya', the rise of the last person in the queue that Prime Minister Narendra Modi champions in his governance.'
Sonowal noted how Prime Minister Modi's inclusive development model, driven by compassion, character, and empowerment of the marginalised, aligns with the values upheld by the Brahma Kumaris. 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas is not merely a slogan, it is a spiritual commitment toward unity and upliftment,' Sonowal said in a statement.
'Sacrifice, patience, and moral Strength are the pillars of a strong nation,' he said.
Drawing parallels between maternal virtues and national character, Sonowal said, 'Just as a mother moulds a child with patience and values, organisations like the Brahma Kumaris shape society by nurturing character, self-discipline, and self-realisation.'
He emphasised that sacrifice and discipline are not old-fashioned ideals but timeless virtues that lay the foundation for true patriotism and national pride.
Reiterating the need to guide today's youth amid rapid technological and societal changes, Sonowal observed, 'In today's world, where patience is often tested and values are constantly challenged, the one who possesses Sahan shakti, the strength of endurance, is our Maha Shakti.'
Union Minister Sonowal expressed his gratitude to the organisation for including him among such noble company and acknowledged the Northeast's growing spiritual and developmental importance in India's national vision.
'Prime Minister Modi has described the Northeast as Ashta Lakshmi--eight embodiments of prosperity. And I believe this region will lead not just in economic growth but in spiritual and moral leadership as well,' said Sonowal.
Union Minister Sonowal praised the Brahma Kumaris for their unwavering mission of character building, national unity, and spiritual guidance. 'If we move forward guided by these principles, we can truly build a strong, united, and morally empowered Maha-Bharat.' (ANI)

Officials here announced that during the visit to Brazil, the two sides are expected to take up defence production and cooperation, as Brazil has displayed interest in the technology for more secure communication and India's Akash surface-to-air missile system that was used during Operation Sindoor. 'Broadly, we have a few areas that seem to be of interest to the Brazilian side. They are interested in secure communication systems on the battlefield. They are also interested in offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). Brazil has Scorpene submarines—they are interested in partnering with us in maintaining those submarines. They also seem to be interested in the Akash air defense system and in coastal surveillance systems, Garuda artillery guns and so on,' said P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs. The discussion on defence cooperation between Brazil and India is expected to take place during July 5-8 when Prime Minister Modi will visit Rio De Janeiro and Brasilia. The highlight of the Brazil visit will be Mr. Modi's participation in the main session of the BRICS summit on July 6, when member countries will discuss 'Reform of the Global Governance'. Other items at the summit will be 'Peace and Security', 'Environment, COP 30 and Global Health', strengthening multilateralism, economic and financial affairs and Artificial Intelligence. Discussion at the level of National Security Advisers, business council meetings, women's business alliance and civil council-level talks will find convergence at the declaration of the leaders, said Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) of the MEA. He added that India will hold the BRICS chair in 2026. Prime Minister Modi's visit to Argentina will mark the first full-fledged meeting between him and Argentina's President Javier Gerardo Milei. The two leaders met earlier on the sidelines of multilateral events. Defence, rare earth minerals, agriculture, traditional and renewable energy, and trade and investment are expected to feature in India-Argentina talks this time. In the BRICS meeting in Brazil and Argentina, India is expected to reiterate its concerns on cross-border terrorism. Mr. Modi's first stop will be Ghana, where he will be hosted on July 2-3. This will be followed by his visit to Trinidad and Tobago on July 3-4, which will be followed by his visit to Argentina. The last stop in his tour will be Namibia, where he will pay tribute to Namibian decolonisation icon Sam Nujoma, who passed away on February 8. An agreement on unified payment inter-operability is expected to be signed during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Namibia. 'Africa in recent times has evolved. It has become more aspirational. It wants manufacturing to happen within the countries and it wants value addition to happen within its countries,' Mr. Ravi said. Mr. Modi's visit to Ghana is taking place at a time when the African nation is undergoing economic restructuring under the newly elected President John Dramani Mahama. Agriculture, building a vaccine development hub in west Africa, critical minerals, digital public infrastructure, and renewal of cultural exchange programmes will be among the 'focus' areas during Mr. Modi's visit to Ghana, Mr. Ravi said. Mr. Modi's visit to Trinidad and Tobago will be the first Prime Minister-level visit from India since 1999. 'The visit comes at an opportune time as this year when the country is commemorating 180 years of the arrival of Indian immigrants to Trinidad and Tobago,' said Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South), who highlighted the fact that Trinidad and Tobago is being led by Indian-origin Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who was presented with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman in 2012.

PM Modi to attend 17th BRICS Summit in Rio De Janeiro as India to hold chair of BRICS next year
New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) With India set to hold the chair of BRICS next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, holds even more significance. The BRICS Summit is taking place on July 6 and 7. Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Brazil the July 5 evening, to attend the main programme, which is on July 6. The theme of the Rio Summit is Strengthening Global South Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Governance. The program on July 6 includes the first agenda item, the Reform of the Global Governance, where only the full BRICS members will participate. And thereafter, there is the second item on the agenda, the Peace and Security, in a working lunch format, where the leaders will discuss the agenda item. Leaders' statements will be issued later. The BRICS has 10 full members and 12 partner countries, as well as eight invited countries at the Head of State, Government level, and seven heads of regional and multilateral bodies. Post-lunch, the third item on the agenda is the Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence. Later there will be an official reception and all the leaders will be participating. On July 7, the fourth item of the agenda is environment, COP30, and Global Health. Brazil will also be hosting COP30 in November this year. 'As you know, the BRICS process is led by the Chair and they set the agenda, but the decisions are in a consensus-based format. We are hopeful that there will be four deliverables, although discussions are continuing still at the Sherpa and the Sous-Sherpa level. 'The leaders' declaration, the leaders' statement on global governance and artificial intelligence, the leaders' framework declaration on climate finance, and BRICS partnership for elimination of socially determined diseases,' said Secretary ER Dammu Ravi, at a briefing today.'There will also be in addition four reports that will be submitted to the leaders. On the trade front, India's trade with Brazil is the largest compared to any other country in Latin America. It had reached 16.6 billion in 2022-23, and following the drop in oil and gas prices, it is now around 12.2 billion, with India enjoying a trade surplus as we export goods worth $6.7 billion to Brazil and import goods worth $5.4 billion. Both leaders have set a bilateral trade target of 20 billion during their last meeting in November their forthcoming meeting in Brasilia, the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen and diversify bilateral trade, including through expansion of the India-MERCOSUR PTA, as Brazil will be holding the Chairship of MERCOSUR from 1st July 2025,' he added. Defence minister Rajnath Singh (ANI) NEW DELHI: In the midst of Operation Sindoor, the defence acquisition council (DAC) headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh is set to convene this week to consider a sweeping set of military modernisation proposals worth over Rs 1 lakh crore. According to defence sources cited by ANI, the high-stakes meeting, scheduled for later this week, will include approvals for a wide range of acquisitions aimed at strengthening India's air, naval, and ground defence capabilities. This will be the first DAC meeting since India launched Operation Sindoor, its recent counter-terror and cross-border surveillance campaign. Big push for air defence Among the top proposals is the clearance of the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system developed by DRDO. The Rs 30,000 crore project is intended to significantly bolster the Indian Army's air defence capability, offering interception capability against aerial threats up to 30 km away. IAF eyes ground surveillance The Indian Air Force is also pushing for the purchase of three intelligence, surveillance, targeting and reconnaissance (I-STAR) aircraft to enhance real-time battlefield awareness and precision strike capabilities.
