Experts: The royal protocol Prince William and George may not follow

Daily Mail26-07-2025
Prince George turned 12 on July 22 - an important milestone for the future king in more ways than one. Citing a former royal helicopter pilot, Richard Eden, the Daily Mail's Diary Editor, said: 'When Prince William reached the age of 12, he stopped travelling with his father so they had separate flights. Obviously, that is to guarantee the line of succession.
'It will be very interesting to see whether that's the case with George and William because we know they have travelled together either via plane, helicopter or car.' But this is when Rebecca English, the Daily Mail's Royal Editor, who has been covering the royal beat since 2004, interjected. 'I spoke to the Palace this week,' she said, 'and they were like "Well, it's kind of news to us." 'I get the impression that the family won't be changing their travel arrangements at all.'
Jo Elvin, who hosts the hit YouTube show as well as making regular appearances on ITV's Lorraine, was puzzled by the Palace's response. 'I remember being a kid and my father telling me about that as a bit of royal protocol,' she said. 'It's weird.' 'Yeah,' Richard said. 'They don't like talking about security and talking about travel arrangements. But I have to say, I mean, it's not a very tasteful discussion, but it is the future of our royal family and I personally find it very worrying. Look, after the Wales Family, we have Harry and Meghan!' he exclaimed.
'I'm sure this isn't true but there were some rumours that Meghan had said something about "we're only one plane crash away from being on the throne." 'I am sure she didn't as it's a very tasteless comment but the fact is, Prince Harry and Meghan could be on the throne and that is something, I would say, would be a threat to the future of the monarchy.' Pleading to the Wales Family, he said: 'Come on, even though it's not great for the environment, please put George on a separate flight and a separate helicopter from his father. My understanding is that he would still be able to travel with his mother,' Jo added.
To which Rebecca replied: 'Yeah, but as I say, I don't think the family will change their travel plans at all.' This does not seem to align with the wishes of King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth II - both of whom expressed their concerns about the Wales Family flying together. 'Not only do they travel together,' Richard explained, 'Prince William, who is a qualified helicopter pilot, actually flies the helicopter. According to Robert Jobson's book, the King didn't like William flying the whole family and urged him to stop. It is something that Queen Elizabeth expressed her concerns about as well. I think she was always keen to make sure that she did travel separately from the heir-to-the-throne Charles. It is a matter of some importance, I would say,' he added.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams added important historical context as to why this rule was followed so ardently by the late Queen. The experienced royal commentator told MailOnline that the bizarre rule was established following a string of tragic deaths in the family involving aircrafts. 'The unexpected can happen, as with Prince William of Gloucester's tragic death in 1972, though this was in a competition,' Richard said. 'Prince George, Duke of Kent also died in a plane crash in 1942, which has become controversial. Prince Philip's sister, Cecile, died in a plane crash in 1937, giving birth to a stillborn child,' he added.
These tragedies have only served to reinforce the Royal Family's belief in ensuring the heirs travel separately. Richard noted that a similar policy exists across the pond where the President never travels by plane with the Vice-President. Whilst this new royal protocol may be one that the Wales Family choose not to follow, it is just one of many rules George and his siblings are subject to. These include always travelling with a change of black clothes should a member of the family die unexpectedly.
On top of this, they can never eat shellfish while on a royal tour to avoid food poisoning. Liam Gallagher makes controversial drug reference as he plays up to the cameras after being caught on film entering a portaloo backstage at Oasis reunion show

Liam Gallagher made sure to play up to the cameras as he was spotted heading into a portaloo toilet backstage at a recent Oasis reunion show at Wembley stadium. The musician, 52, was caught on camera by a sneaky fan as he headed inside, but catching the lens the star made it known he had been seen as he mimed a drug reference. Pointing inside the cubicle he then alluded to taking cocaine before he headed inside. Reposting the video the fan wrote: 'Liam Gallagher knew he was being watched heading into the backstage toilets and of course he does this'. At the height of the band's Britpop career Liam was known for his party lifestyle fuelled by of drinking and drug taking. However the star has left his wild antics behind and now priorities his well being with his 'health trip' seeing him cutting back on booze and stop drug taking. He previously told The Sun: 'You've got to undo all the bad work you've done through f***ing getting off your head and all that. 'It's time to undo it all now and get back to reality. All that stuff that you thought was cool in the early days . . . it's time to get healthy.' 'As you get older, life is precious, do you know what I mean? I'm a pretty happy-go-lucky guy. I love waking up early in the morning.' Meanwhile it was also revealed Liam has been drinking apple cider vinegar on the Oasis tour after vowing to ditch the booze. Before the reunion gigs kicked off, Liam vowed to cut alcohol out his diet to keep his voice in check for the stage. After years of drinking heavily on tour in the nineties, Liam prefers a glass of the soft drink. Liam has previously spoke about his love for apple cider vinegar and honey and how it helps his voice. He said: 'I drink a lot of funky drinks. I have this apple cider vinegar, the one that everyone bangs on about. 'So I have vinegar, some honey and then I have some turmeric, some cayenne pepper, a squirt of lemon, hot water, stir it round and drink it. 'It's really good for when you get a hoarse voice. I've got a thyroid problem – Hashimoto's disease – so I can get a really hoarse voice.' In 2023 Liam revealed that he needed the joints replacing in his hip due to arthritis as a result of a longstanding thyroid problem. He then underwent a major hip operation. Before that in 2017 he was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, an autoimmune condition of the thyroid gland. In addition he also suffers with the skin condition psoriasis. Speaking about his hip issues in 2023 he said: 'My hips are f***ed, I've got arthritis, bad. 'I went to get it checked out and my bones are mashed up. The lady was going, 'Oh, you might need a hip operation, a replacement.'' He said at the time he didn't want the operation because of the 'stigma'. 'I think I'd rather just be in pain. Which is ridiculous, obviously. I know that. Just get them fixed. But it's the stigma, saying you've had your hips replaced. What's next?' Taking to social media he penned: 'Morning Rastas so I had my Hip operation last wk all went well and RESPEK to all the doctors n nurses who looked after me Big shout out to the A team for getting us home safe n sound' He told MoJo magazine: 'When the weather's cold, my hips are like snap, crackle and pop. I need warmth. 'I can't sleep at night for the pain. Tossing and turning. So I'm on herbal sleeping tablets and they've saved my life. One of them, seven hours out, no pain, nothing. 'My new thing is Deep Heat. Caked myself in it on the knees and hips, the calves, then into the steam room for as long as I can handle it.' Liam, a keen jogger, was told by doctors to run less to help manage the condition. In the interview he also spoke about his psoriasis, saying he once met a fan who thought he had cocaine in his hair - but it was actually bits of skin from his itchy scalp. He said: 'I've got psoriasis, so I had obviously been scratching it during the day and there were little white bits and s**t. They were taking it out of my hair and putting it on their gums and putting it up their f***ing nose!' Taking to Twitter last February he said of having his hip operation: 'Morning Rastas so I had my Hip operation last wk [week] all went well and RESPEK [respect] to all the doctors n nurses who looked after me Big shout out to the A team for getting us home safe n sound. 'You know who you are and Florence guru I love and adore you Riverdance here I come LG x'.

The ‘curl & scrunch' trick Princess Andre swears by for gorgeous long waves with zero heat damage

SHE may be a nepo baby who grew up in the spotlight, but Princess Andre is now paving her own way. Just last week, she was crowned Tatler's second best-dressed star in Britain. 4 4 And it's not just fashion where she's making waves - the daughter of Peter Andre and Katie Price is also a beauty icon, with fans clamouring for her hair secrets. Princess has become known for her stunning, long, naturally curly hair, and the secret to her gorgeous locks is a simple, heat-free trick she recently shared on TikTok. For anyone wanting to achieve beautiful, bouncy waves without using a curling iron, her "curl & scrunch" method is a game-changer. The 18-year-old posted a step-by-step tutorial for her 882.9k followers, and the video has since gone viral with 1.2 million views and 53.6k likes. The key to her routine isn't heat, but the right combination of products and a technique that enhances her natural curls. How to Get the Look The process starts with a good brush to ensure there are "absolutely no knots." Princess then sections her hair, clipping the top half out of the way to focus on the bottom. She makes sure each section is "soaked" with water before adding a "good amount" of curl cream. "I feel like this is a really important step," she explains, "but always brush away from your face. I just feel like this defines the curls so much more." Trailer for the upcoming series of The Princess Diaries starring Princess Andre The magic truly happens with her signature two-step method: finger curling and scrunching. She precisely finger curls her hair to make the curls "so defined," then scrunches her hair, listening for that "squishy noise" that tells her the product is working. After repeating this on all sections, she scrunches her hair with a towel and then flips her head forward to add mousse or gel for extra hold. Although she says she doesn't diffuse her hair until it's "fully dry," she does use a diffuser for a little bit before letting the rest air-dry. 4 The result is her signature head of gorgeous, bouncy waves—all done with minimal heat. Fans flocked to the comments to praise her look, with one writing: "You've always had beautiful hair. "Love this pretty girl." Another added: "Beautiful young woman. While a third simply commented: "Beautiful." Princess Andre has renewed her major beauty deal with Studio London for a second year. Last year, she was announced as the face of the brand's affordable cosmetics line and will continue to work with them for another 12 months. An insider revealed: 'Princess has been a huge hit with Superdrug and they couldn't wait to snap her up again. 'She has such wide appeal and has already shown just how much she can do for the brand.' Who is Princess Andre and what's her job? Princess Andre born June 29, 2007, is the daughter of Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre and former glamour model Katie Price. The pair also welcomed a son while they were together, Junior, born on June 13, 2005. Katie and Peter then split in early 2009, with their divorce being finalised in October of the same year. Princess also has six half siblings, four from Katie and two from Peter. As of June 2024, Princess has an impressive 750,000 followers on her Instagram account, @officialprincess_andre. Ahead of her 16th birthday, in June 2023, Princess opened up about what she wants to do with her future during a Q&A with fans and followers. The teen said she is seeking out "financial freedom" through her beauty and fashion brand deals, as well as her own jewellery brand named 'Sparkle' by Princess Andre.

Musician Terry Reid dies aged 75: Star nicknamed 'Superlungs' who once turned down offer to join Led Zeppelin passes away after cancer battle

Musician Terry Reid has died at the age of 75. The singer-songwriter who was nicknamed 'Superlungs' famously turned down an offer to join the bands Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. He passed away following a battle with cancer, his UK representative confirmed on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife Annette. His death comes after he was forced to postpone a tour last month due to his cancer treatment. The tour was set to begin in Wolverhampton on September 11. A statement on his social media in July read: 'Due to medical issues arising from recent treatment for cancer Terry has had to postpone his autumn 2025 UK, Irish and Norway. 'Terry is especially upset about this as his 2024 tour was so successful and he had been looking forward to playing some new towns and venues plus old faves, as well as his first ever dates in Norway.' And just seven days ago on his Instagram account he shared an image of funding for his 'brave health battle'. The caption said: 'I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. You have no idea how much this means to me, all of the love and support are helping me to heal.' The star, from Cambridgeshire, was initially part of local group the Redbeats as a teenager. He then supported Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers and was then asked to join the latter band. At 16 he was supporting the Rolling Stones on tour where he first noticed by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. He told The Guardian last year of turning down a chance to be in the band: 'I was intent on doing my own thing!' He also revealed in 2023: 'I was very friendly with Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. Keith asked me to support the Stones in the States, but then shortly afterwards, Jimmy wanted me to join his new band. I was torn. 'In the end, I put the ball in Jimmy's court. I said: 'You'd better speak to Keith and tell him I'm not going.' But Jimmy bottled it. 'He said: 'I'm not having him shoot me in the f***ing leg. Even then, Keith had a reputation. So I ended up going to America with the Stones. I even played with them at Altamont.' A statement on his social media in July read: 'Due to medical issues arising from recent treatment for cancer Terry has had to postpone his autumn 2025 UK, Irish and Norway' Just seven days ago on his Instagram account he shared an image of funding for his 'brave health battle' Terry also turned down Ritchie Blackmore's offer to be Deep Purple's lead singer, saying: 'It was very flattering. Ritchie was one hell of a guitar player.' He then signed a management and recording deal with Mickie Most, who oversaw his first two studio albums. After his death this week tributes flooded in including from fellow musician Joe Bonamassa. Bonamassa said: 'Goodbye my friend. It was an honour to get to know you as friend and a musical mentor. 'I will miss our hangs and stories in Palm Springs. One of the greatest to ever do it and a beautiful person and soul. 'Rest in peace Terry Reid. My deepest condolences to his family on this terrible day.' Fans were also devastated at his death as one penned on social media: 'I wish there was somewhere I could lay flowers for you Terry. 'Tonight I will light a candle and let your voice flow through the house. You will rest in peace as you have brought us so much.' Another said: 'R.I.P you shining star.'
