CIIE promotion event aims to boost China-Czech business ties
PRAGUE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- An event promoting the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in the Czech Republic was held here on Tuesday, bringing together representatives from the Czech government, the business community, industry associations, and Chinese enterprises to explore new opportunities for boosting China-Czech economic and trade cooperation. Speaking at the event, Liu Haiyan, economic and commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, said the CIIE serves as an important platform for China to further open up to the world and offers a golden opportunity for enterprises around the globe to access the Chinese market. Through the CIIE, Czech companies can showcase their high-quality products and further enhance their brand recognition and market share, he said, adding that he hopes Czech entrepreneurs will take this year's CIIE as an opportunity to further explore the Chinese market. During the event, a representative from the CIIE Bureau gave a virtual presentation on the upcoming eighth CIIE, which will take place in Shanghai from Nov. 5 to 10. Richard Hlavaty, director of the Department of Non-European Countries at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said at the event that the Czech Republic considers the CIIE as a key opportunity to present the country, its innovation and industrial tradition, but also as a strategic channel for deepening economic and trade relations with China. "I firmly believe that through initiatives like this, we can continue to expand our economic ties and deepen mutual understanding between our countries," he said. Frantisek Chaloupecky, vice president of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, one of the co-organizers of the event, said that the CIIE provides an important platform for Czech companies, enabling them not only to showcase their products but also to establish business connections in the Chinese market. According to the organizers, 17 Czech exhibitors participated in last year's CIIE, primarily showcasing products in the food and beverage industries as well as the handicraft sector.

Malaysia launches exporter outreach, reforms post-US tariff deal
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will implement three major initiatives—exporter outreach, regulatory reforms, and nationwide supply chain mapping—following its recent tariff agreement with the US. The deal reduces tariffs on Malaysian goods from 25% to 19%, effective August 1. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz stated the agreement resulted from 'months of intense but thorough as well as methodical negotiations' without compromising Malaysia's 'red lines' in strategic sectors. 'Most importantly, we achieved this without conceding on our red lines in key areas,' he said during his keynote at The Edge Malaysia Centurion Club Awards 2025. Protected areas include foreign equity limits in strategic industries, digital legal safeguards, and halal standards. 'The negotiation package was a full-of-nation offer, not just the government, but all (of you)—many companies contributed to that,' he added. Post-deal, the government's focus includes: 1. **Exporter Outreach:** Engaging SMEs and multinationals to mitigate tariff impacts. 2. **Regulatory Reform:** Cutting bureaucratic overlaps and outdated rules. 3. **Supply Chain Mapping:** Strengthening industrial roles in global supply chains. Tengku Zafrul highlighted Malaysia's mid-cap companies (RM100m–RM1b market cap) as vital to the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. KUALA LUMPUR: Investment in urban biodiversity delivers economic gains while fostering environmental sustainability and improving community well-being, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. He emphasised that sustainable urban development creates cleaner, greener spaces, elevating residents' quality of life and attracting investors and tourists. 'Urban biodiversity investments aren't just about financial returns. They benefit the environment and, ultimately, the people—cleaner air being one key outcome,' Fadillah told reporters after closing the Urban Biodiversity Conference (UBC) 2025 at Sime Darby Convention Centre. He noted that expanding green spaces and parks in cities aligns with sustainable development goals, enhancing social well-being. The conference, attended by Selangor's Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, promoted biodiversity integration in urban planning. Fadillah, also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, highlighted that eco-friendly developments increase property values. 'People pay more for homes in greener, healthier environments. This boosts returns for investors,' he added.
