World Cup Tune-up: India Women to host Australia Women for three ODIs in September
India Women will play their counterparts from Australia in a three-match ODI series at home in September as part of the preparations for the ICC World Cup which the country is hosting later this year, the BCCI said on Thursday (May 29, 2025).
The board also said the men's 'A' teams from Australia and South Africa will be touring the country from September-November during which they will play multi-day and limited overs cricket matches.
"The Australian Women's team will tour India for a three-match One Day International series, serving as crucial preparation ahead of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025," the BCCI said in a statement.
The three matches of the women's series will be played at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The games are scheduled on September 14, 17 and 20.
The 50-over Women's World Cup is scheduled to be held across multiple venues in India from September 29 to October 26.
Around the same time, the Australian men's A team will also be touring India for a series featuring two four-day matches and three One-day games.
The tour will begin with a four-day match in Lucknow from September 16-19 with the second game also being scheduled at the same venue from September 23-26.
The three one-day matches will be held from in Kanpur on September 30, October 3 and 5.
The contests against the Aussies will be followed by matches against the visiting South Africans in October-November.
"The South African Men's A team will also tour India for an extensive series featuring both multi-day and limited-overs formats in Bengaluru. The two multi-day matches will take place at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, while the three one-day games will be held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium," the BCCI said in the statement.
The two four-day matches against the Proteas will be played at CoE, Bengaluru, from October 30-November 2 and November 6-9 respectively.
The one-dayers will be organised on November 13, 16 and 19. The A tour is normally organised before a series involving the senior team.

Thousands of fans gathered outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate the historic win, but the sheer volume of the crowd overwhelmed the arrangements, leading to chaos and fatalities. The event, however, continued inside the packed stadium despite the tragedy unfolding just outside. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal expressed deep sorrow over the incident but was firm in stating that the BCCI could not be held accountable. 'It is sad and tragic. The celebrations turned into a tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families who lost their loved ones. For the BCCI, the IPL concluded last night. We had no knowledge of such an incident occurring, so how can we be held responsible for it?' Dhumal told India Today. He also pointed out the lack of involvement or presence of IPL officials during the event. 'How can we be held responsible for something like this? It is indeed a very tragic incident, and we extend our deepest condolences. But we cannot be held accountable for something over which we had no control. I am not certain if the stampede occurred directly outside the stadium—I have no specific knowledge of that. Have you seen any IPL officials present at the gate, managing the crowd or facilitating the players' entry?' asked Dhumal. Dhumal revealed that upon learning of the incident, he contacted RCB officials and asked for the event to be wrapped up. "Have I been in touch with RCB officials? Yes, as soon as I was informed about the incident, I spoke to them. They told me they were inside the stadium and had no knowledge of what was happening outside. Based on that conversation, I was told they immediately called off the event," Dhumal added. Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had also issued a response on the tragedy. 'I think there were some lapses. The BCCI has no role in it. But it's a lesson to learn. We will look into forming new rules for such victory celebrations going forward,' Saikia had said.

"The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery," the Prime Minister said in a post on X. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia said, "Organisers should have planned RCB's IPL-winning celebrations better.' He acknowledged the scale of the celebrations but pointed out a lack of adequate crowd control measures."

Bengaluru: Celebrations descended into chaos and finally tragedy as 11 people lost their lives and more than 30 were left injured outside the Chinnaswamy stadium while trying to join a party inside the venue to honour Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL triumph here on Wednesday. However, the felicitation of the players went ahead nonetheless as the stadium was packed to the rafters despite the chaos. Much like that of Tuesday night when team's win in Ahmedabad triggered a street party in the Garden City, Wednesday too had thousands, which eventually became lakhs, converging at the Chinnaswamy stadium, leaving the police outnumbered and struggling to take control of the situation. The men in uniform tried to use mild force to disperse the crowd or to at least bring some order but that did little to discourage people, many of whom could be seen pressed against the stadium's entrance gate, desperate to get in. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that 11 had died and 33 were injured "due to stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium." "More than 2-3 lakh people came near Chinnaswamy Stadium, no one expected this crowd," Siddaramaiah said. "Most of deceased in RCB celebrations are youth. Government will provide Rs 10 lakh compensation to kin of deceased," he added, while declaring that there will be a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The injured are being treated at the nearby Vydehi hospital and Bowering hospital. "Crowd was uncontrollable, police was finding it difficult, so we had to stop procession," Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said, while speaking about the tragedy because of which a planned victory parade could not take place. The BCCI said the turn of events was shocking and the organisers should have been better-prepared. "It's most unfortunate, organisers should have planned RCB's IPL-winning celebrations better," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said. "When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions and security measures need to be taken," he added. Similar sentiments were expressed by IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, who said "Whatever inquiry that needs to be done, the concerned authorities will do that. It was not a BCCI event. It is sad and tragic." The political slugfest also started soon enough with the Opposition BJP targeting the Congress-led government for not handling the situation properly. And the show went on… However, inside the Chinnaswamy, the show went on with players delivering speeches to acknowledge each other and the fans amid thumping music and bursting of firecrackers as well. "It's for all of you - the fans, the people of this wonderful city, people who've supported RCB through thick and thin. I've never seen any fan base of any team in the world like this franchise," said Virat Kohli, who was the cynosure of all eyes after ticking another box in his illustrious career. This was after the Rajat Patidar-led team landed in Bengaluru in the afternoon, received by Shivakumar at the airport. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs in the IPL final at Ahmedabad on Tuesday to clinch their maiden title in 18 years. Patidar, like Kohli, also waxed eloquent about RCB's loyal fans, considered by many as the most passionate alongside the ones who adore Chennai Super Kings. "You all deserve the trophy. We all love you," Patidar said at the felicitation ceremony. The scenes leading up to the tragedy reminded one of the historic welcome given to the T20 World Cup-winning Indian squad by Mumbai in July last year. However, while the sea of humanity had a gala time in Mumbai, things went haywire in the Garden City. The much-anticipated open-top bus parade, which was allowed to proceed by Siddaramaiah from Vidhana Soudha to the stadium, ultimately could not take place as crowd became unmanageable for the police. The Bengaluru Traffic Police had already discouraged such a plan citing the congestion on the route. At the Chinnaswamy stadium, fans jostled to sneak inside and it turned into a tragedy. Thousands were also seen waiting outside the Vidhana Soudha to cheer the players. The rainy weather in the city didn't help. The police had already endured a torrid time managing the crowd that flooded the streets to celebrate the triumph last night. In visuals shared online, Kohli could be seen holding the trophy and watching in awe, thousands who lined up the team's bus route, cheerfully waving at the convoy.
